While this past week or so has dominated by CTIA in the U.S, the international focus remained on Samsung's latest bag of tricks, the Galaxy S III. European networks announced pricing and release plans, as we cross off the days until the May 29 launch. We've also seen the first Galaxy S III variant emerge, in the form of a new mid-range device for Korea Telecom.

But it hasn't been all Galaxy S III — LG announced the Optimus LTE 2, and released the Optimus L7 in the UK. And we also got a release date for the European RAZR MAXX. Meanwhile, Sony announced two sleek new Android 4.0 phones for the Japanese market — the Xperia GX (Hayabusa) and Xperia SX (Mint). We're eager to see these arrive on international shores, but right now Sony's made no announcements to this effect.

And Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates continue to roll out. This week the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note got its bump up to ICS, bringing performance improvements, some visual tweaks and new S Memo functionality to Sammy's 5.3-incher.

There was also good news for anyone on a European network who likes to travel within Europe — the EU has voted to impose a price cap on calls and data roaming prices, meaning more reasonable roaming bills if you're travelling within Europe this summer.

Evernote, the popular multi-platform ‘digital memory’ app, has done some serious re-tooling of its Web interface. In addition to a more polished UI that more closely mirrors the look of Evernote on the desktop, the update brings features like notebook stacks and snippet view to the Web.

Auto-saving is now enabled as well, and you can select multiple items by holding down the Cmd or Ctrl key on your Mac or Windows keyboard. If you’ve got items stored in your notebooks that you want to share with friends or co-workers, Evernote has improved that process, too. You can quickly post an item to Facebook, share it via email, or generate a Web sharing link to paste into an IM conversation or status update.

The folks at BriefMobile got hold of some info about an upcoming LG LS970 for Sprint, and it has some impressive specs — namely the quad-core Krait S4 and 2GB of RAM. All the info they have certainly looks legit, and it's very likely we'll see this one sometime in Q4. But while everyone is in awe of those impressive innards (including most of us here at AC) we have to remember that these are exactly the components we expect to see at the end of this year. We're ready for the next generation of hardware, but unfortunately we'll have to wait a while longer for it.

With e-books and digital subscription of magazines and newspapers becoming the new hot, many are sending off the message that print is gradually losing or has even already lost to its digital counterpart, while others argue that print is far from dead. Needless to say, being one of the leading manufacturers of printers, HP took the “print is dead” claim quite personally — and perhaps too literally. How so? Well, the company commissioned a project that got participants in the US, India and Singapore to live without printed materials — including newspapers, books, labels, packaging, ID cards and even some clothes — for two days. Needless to say, those folks struggled really badly, but HP certainly proved that “the role of print is vastly underestimated” and that “true print deprivation was impossible.”

If you think that’s an overkill, just you wait: HP and renowned photographer Chase Jarvis even went as far as getting a Wisconsin town called Spring Green to undergo a similar experiment, but for a duration of seven days. The entire project will be presented in a video documentary called 7 Days Without Print, and ahead of its premiere at Guggenheim Museum in New York on June 14, we were shown an exclusive trailer for said movie at HP’s Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai. For the sake of those poor participants, do check out the clip right after the break.

Update: Sorry folks, but we’ve been asked to remove the trailer as it’s not ready for public viewing yet, but we’ll put up the official version once it’s out.

HP’s TouchSmart sub-brand and its other AIOs should be no stranger to many PC advocates, but in case you’ve never come across one before, the company’s laid all of them out on one side of its Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai. Models range from the TouchSmart IQ770 launched back in 2007, all the way to the recently shipped Z1 workstation and even the just-announced t410 Smart Zero Client; but the real gem of the booth is that little beige HP 150 right in the middle — it’s one of the first-ever touchscreen PCs, dating back to 1983, powered by an 8MHz Intel 8088 chip, ran MS-DOS and cost a mere $3,995.

Whilst on the topic, HP’s Vice President of Industrial Design Stacy Wolff shared some interesting stats: his team found that much like laptops, there are very different screen size preferences across different regions, with the US showing strong interest in 20-inch and 23-inch HP AIOs, whereas China much prefers 20-inch over 21.5-inch and 23-inch. With the big jump in AIO market penetration in each region between 2008 to 2012 (almost doubled in Japan and the US; and an even bigger leap for other markets), HP predicts that these machines will continue to steadily increase market penetration across more price points — this was illustrated with what it conveniently calls the “AIO wedge” on a chart. Mozilla, continuing its year-long crusade to speed up Firefox startup and shutdown times, has published a name and shame list of the Firefox’s slowest add-ons.

The list is just one part of Mozilla’s new efforts to highlight slow add-ons, and to help developers make their add-ons more efficient. Over the next two weeks, ‘slow performance warnings’ will be introduced in the add-on gallery so that users can see, before installation, which add-ons will slow down their browser. If that isn’t enough to spur developers into cleaning up their add-ons, Mozilla has also begun reaching out to developers of slow add-ons with tips on how to improve add-on performance. Finally, add-on developers will soon have the ability to perform ‘on-demand performance testing,’ so that they can test their add-on before it’s deployed publicly.

Mozilla reports that the average Firefox add-on slows down Firefox’s start-up time by 10% — which means, if you install 10 add-ons, you will double your start-up time. On fast desktop PCs that kind of slowdown might be negligible, but on older computers, laptops and smartphones, it could be the difference between a 5 and 10 second startup. Mozilla has obviously realized that while massive performance gains might’ve been made with Firefox 4, the addition of third-party add-ons can destroy any user-perceived improvements.

In other news, Mozilla says that a future build of Firefox will block the installation of add-ons (such as toolbars) by third-party software. Add-ons and toolbars that are bundled in this way will require explicit approval when you next open up Firefox. Hooray!

Another day, another Galaxy Tab launch. The latest Tab to be released is the awkwardly-named Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which is now available at the Carphone Warehouse in the UK for £199 (~$315) for the 8GB Wifi-only version. The Galax Tab 2 7.0 is a re-imagining of the Tab 7 Plus, and includes a 1GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 1024×600 TFT display and TouchWiz'd Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There's also a redesigned front face featuring two side speakers, likely to protect against any legal shenanigans from Apple. All in all, the Tab 2 isn't going to blow you away with awesomeness, but you could do worse if you're after an Android tablet on a £200 budget.

Mozilla Messaging, citing Mozilla’s increased focus on Web-borne communications, will be reintegrating with Mozilla Labs.

The Messaging subsidiary was formed in 2008 to focus on Thunderbird, but given Mozilla Labs’ current focus on identity and contact management, it now makes sense for the groups to be merged. Thunderbird will be unaffected by the change — some URLs might change, but that’s it — and presumably Messaging’s F1 and Raindrop will thrive in the Labs playground.

What this means for the end user — for the hundreds of millions of Firefox users — is that the next big additions will be communication- and messaging-oriented. Contacts and F1 will be almost certainly be baked into Firefox 5 or 6, both of which will be released this year — and, who knows, there might be something else even more exciting up Mozilla Labs’ sleeve!

Following the recent EU ruling on European roaming rates, O2 UK has announced its new "O2 Travel" service, which will launch from July. The service offers reduced European roaming charges compared to the networks' current price plans, which it'll have to abolish after the July deadline imposed by the EU. Instead of paying up to £40 for up to 50MB of Euro roaming data per month, O2 Travel will now offer 25MB each day, for a daily fee of £1.99. And voice calls are becoming cheaper too, with a one-off charge of 50p per call, with minutes being deducted from the customer's allowance for that month.

Interestingly, the new O2 Travel deals will also be available to O2 Pay As You Go customers — traditionally PAYG users have been left in the lurch when trying to use mobile data aboard. Data costs the same as it does for contract customers, but there's a slightly different price plan for voice calls — a 29p charge per call, then 8p per minute for the call's duration.

So good news for anyone roaming in Europe on O2, and we'd expect the other major British networks to reveal new roaming plans as the July deadline approaches.

Sand Trap is one of those games that at first seem too hard to bother with, but when you try to stop playing it you discover you’re hooked.

The goal is to get as much sand as you possibly can out of the maze and into the bucket at the bottom of the screen. You need to rotate your maze every which way to get the sand rolling around it. You then try to direct the sand to one of the exits of the maze, and hopefully into the bucket. It took me several tries to actually get sand into the bucket, but that might be due to the fact that I didn’t even realize the bucket was there at first. Things improved significantly after that.

As you level up, the mazes get more complicated, with moving parts and other things making your life more difficult. Once you manage to get through all these obstacles and get enough sand into your bucket, you can move on.

As I mentioned, this is not an easy game, but it’s highly addictive. The graphics remind me of some long lost game from the 80s, but this just proves that you don’t need super graphics and crazy sound to make a game work. There’s a soothing guitar track playing in the background and that’s it, as far as I could hear, and you can enjoy it just as much with no sound at all.

If you’d been by the shore of the Sumida River in central Tokyo this past weekend, you would have noticed that it was glowing a distinct shade of blue. That’s because Panasonic decided to kick off the first-ever Tokyo Hotaru (fireflies) festival by sending 100,000 EVERLED light bulbs down the river, both to mimic fireflies as well as to pay homage to a Japanese tradition of floating candles on the water. Before you cringe too much at the thought of the environmental impact, rest assured that Panasonic minimized the footprint of its aquatic LED parade. All the bulbs ran on solar power (presumably, charged during the day) that kept Evolta batteries fed inside, and the entire lot was scooped up in a large net afterwards. We love the exhibition as a large-scale demo of sustainable lighting — you may just want to avoid fishing along the Sumida’s shoreline for awhile in case you catch a straggler.

Just because it's not the latest hotness on the Android scene isn't a reason to let the Motorola Droid X2 wither and die on the vine, and Verizon has begun pushing out an update to Big Red's first dual-core phone. It's not a big version bump by any means, but there are a few important changes:

• Verizon Video and VZ Navigator® 3D City are now preloaded.
• A Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.
• Purchased ringtones are now able to be saved and set.
• Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.
• Shortcut names can be updated and saved.
• The keyboard Input Auto Error Correction setting defaults to off.

Granted, few of us really missed not having the 3D version of VZ Navigator, but the security patch is good to have, and the wireless alerting system is an important update — one that could end up saving your bacon. Of course, bug fixes are always welcome. If you haven't received the update notification yet, check for it via your Droid X settings.

Windows 8 images continue to leak onto the Internet, despite Microsoft’s wallpaper-based pleas to those with access to the early releases. Today’s installment courtesy CNBeta shows the upcoming Windows App Store, which will likely feature prominently in Windows 8.

We’ve got our doubts about the authenticity of the image. In addition to showing several of the built-in games which already ship with Windows, Opera is listed — and a competing browser seems like an odd inclusion this early on. Of course, with the browser ballot still in place in the EU for quite some time, Microsoft would probably need to include rivals like Opera and Firefox to stay out of trouble. We’re also not sure why Clickgamer is shown beneath Angry Birds instead of Rovio — the game’s actual publisher.

It’s still early, of course, so it’s entirely possible that the Windows App Store image is genuine but merely using placeholder images and text for now. Anyone else thinking Windows Marketplace might be a more logical name? You know, to keep things consistent with Windows Phone and keep Apple’s legal eagles at bay.

It’s hard to believe: our world-spanning network, our Internet, which is the cornerstone of free speech and free society — which, on a good day, is capable of causing populist revolutions – is still crippled by banal geolocation restrictions. We are, of course, talking about Amazon’s two latest offerings, both of which are only available in the United States. Last week it was the excellent Android Appstore for Android, and today it’s the Amazon Cloud Player for Web and Android.

Along with Cloud Player, Amazon also launched Cloud Drive, which is basically just like any other cloud storage digital locker. It’s not particularly feature rich, and there’s no real reason to use it over something like SugarSync or SkyDrive — it does work outside the US, however.

Its primary purpose, as far as we’re concerned, is that it stores your your Cloud Player music in a subdirectory. You get 5GB of Cloud Drive storage for free, and then it’s $1 per gigabyte per year if you need more space.

The Amazon Cloud Player itself will not, to put it bluntly, blow your mind. It works, but it’s very much an early, and possibly rushed, release. Let’s dive in to the Web and Android players for a closer look.

When Amazon Appstore for Android launched last week, one of its primary features — Test Drive — was disabled just a few minutes after it opened. With no try-before-you-buy, no refund process, and 1-Click purchasing ready to strike at any moment, this caused some problems. Anyway, don’t despair: Test Drive is now enabled.

Before you get your hopes up, Test Drive doesn’t work with every app. The IMDb app works fine — you can even watch movie trailers on it! — but the Angry Birds games are sadly not enabled. Some games work surprisingly well, though, like Bubble Buster. There’s very little latency, and the framerate is really rather good. The Test Drive experience is so true to life that you even get ads; how cool is that?

Google Voice Search has just introduced localizations for Latin America, Indonesia and Malaysia, enabling native language search for hundreds of millions of users.

Google’s official blog post offers some interesting insights into the process of collecting and analyzing the speech data needed to expand support. Thousands of hours were spent gathering voice samples and choosing key regional accents to analyze, and International Program Manager Linne Ha is clearly very appreciative of the Google users who helped the company complete the expansion. Without an enthusiastic base of users to lend a hand, Google Voice Search’s polyglot powers would have been nearly impossible to deliver.

A while back, we told you about AVG’s new LiveKive service, a new cloud synchronization and backup tool which appears to have been named after a vat in which mash is made during the brewing process. But enough about AVG’s odd choice of monikers — LiveKive has launched and is now ready to accept your files into the AVG cloud.

LiveKive takes aim at services like Dropbox and SugarSync, though at the moment it’s lagging behind in terms of features. As it stands, LiveKive is only compatible with Windows and OS X. There are no mobile clients yet, though with AVG’s strong presence on Android we wouldn’t be surprised to see an app arrive in the near future.

The company is offering a heck of a deal right now, however. If you sign up for a paid account during the launch phase, you can score unlimited storage for $80 for a whole year. You can’t even score 50GB per year at that price from Dropbox, so if cost and space are more important to you than cross-platform availability, LiveKive might be worth checking out.

If you’re not interested in ponying up any cash at the moment, you can still get a 5GB account free of charge. Just head on over, and create a LiveKive account.

Right on schedule, Sony and Activision have teamed up again for this “Limited Edition” Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle that’s due to ship May 25th. Unfortunately, once you’ve opened the box the special experience is pretty much over, with only standard console and game inside, replacing the usual Uncharted 3 offering — unlike last year’s 160GB Black Ops combo, there’s no free DLC (or anything else) to be had. Still, if you somehow don’t have Sony’s gaming machine in your living room already and have been aching to own some noobs on PSN then it’s a decent option, even if any perks will have to be earned in-game.

Bing’s new HTML5-and-CSS3-enhanced search interface, which was first demonstrated back in September 2010 to showcase the power of IE9, has started to roll out.

The most notable addition to the new interface is is smooth page transitions — the fade in and out — and navigation tabs (maps, images, videos, etc.) now persistently float at the top of the page. WinRumors is also reporting that a feature reminiscent of Google Instant search is being added to Bing, with page elements smoothly transitioning in and out as you type in your search query.

If you want to try out the new Bing UI, your best bet is to set your locale to United States – English and pray that you’re part of the initial roll out. Alternatively, just wait a few days until MIX 2011, Microsoft’s Web developer conference, which is when the new Bing UI should be officially launched.

The first is a full-featured proxy API, which will, for example, allow users to set different proxy servers for normal browsing and Incognito mode. Proxy auto-config scripts are also supported by the API.

The second — Web Navigation Extension — is a bit more expansive. This API will allow devs to build everything from more powerful safe browsing extensions — like Traffic Light — to data analysis and reporting extensions.

Both APIs are currently experimental, so you’ll need to enable them on the about:flags page to try out any relevant extensions. Apart from a proxy example built by Google and shipped with the Chromium source, we’re not aware of any examples just yet, however. We’ll let you know when we spot any slick, new extensions which do surface.

It has emerged that the underlying cause of RSA’s SecurID gaffe was the recently-reported zero-day vulnerability found in Adobe’s Flash Player.

The exploit, which used specially-crafted Flash embedding in Excel spreadsheets, was first reported on March 15 and has since been fixed. RSA was hacked sometime in the first half of March when an employee was successfully spear phished and opened an infected spreadsheet. As soon as the spreadsheet was opened, an advanced persistent threat (APT) — a backdoor Trojan — called Poison Ivy was installed. From there, the attackers basically had free reign of RSA’s internal network, which led to the eventual dissemination of data pertaining to RSA’s two-factor authenticators.

The attack is reminiscent of the APTs used in the China vs. Google attacks from last year — and indeed, Uri Rivner, the head of new technologies at RSA is quick to point out that that other big companies are being attacked, too: “The number of enterprises hit by APTs grows by the month; and the range of APT targets includes just about every industry. Unofficial tallies number dozens of mega corporations attacked [...] These companies deploy any imaginable combination of state-of-the-art perimeter and end-point security controls, and use all imaginable combinations of security operations and security controls. Yet still the determined attackers find their way in.”

What we’d like to know, though, is whether the attack on RSA was caused by Adobe’s lackadaisical approach to patching Flash — or was it the other way around? Was it the RSA attack that first brought the zero-day vulnerability to Adobe’s attention?

You know those fridge magnet kits composed of a whole bunch of words? The ones you put all over your fridge door and then try to arrange into all sorts of juvenile and/or amusing sentences. Well, Farragomate is the social, webby version of that very same pastime.

You get to play with a bunch of random strangers in real-time, and make up sentences out of a pre-set collection of words, including some fairly naughty ones, and all players’ nicknames. As you can imagine, some of the results are not child-friendly.

There are ten rounds to a game. Once a round is done, players get to vote for their favorite sentence from that round. You can’t vote for your own creation, of course. There’s in-game chat, too.

I think the vocabulary could be made a bit more eclectic, but even as it is, it’s a nice way to spend a few minutes and meet random strangers on the Internet (always a thrilling experience).

Back when I was a kid, I used to love crafting ornate puzzle boxes out of Lego. There would be just one way to open the box, by carefully shifting and rotating a bunch of pieces. Well, either that, or breaking the box in frustration.

Interlocked takes that spirit and turns it into a beautiful Flash game. It’s a good thing the soundtrack is soothing, because the game itself can get pretty frustrating.

At the start of each level, you’re presented with a box built out of blocks in different colors. You can click and drag the mouse to rotate the box any which way. Once you decide you want to shift a part of the box, hit SPACE to switch into “move” mode. You can then click any part of the box and drag it. Of course, you can only move a part as long as nothing is in its way. So it becomes a matter of understanding how the box is built, and what parts you need to move around so you could eventually take the box apart.

It’s a tricky, difficult game, but it’s a great brain teaser — and definitely a keeper.

If you play Scrabble (or a scrabble-like game) from time to time, you may want to check out Scrabble Helper. This simple website is a godsend when you’re at a loss for words. Simply enter whatever letters you have, and the word you’d like to connect with. Scrabble helper comes up with a whole bunch of suggestions sorted by score.

The site lets you select one of five dictionaries – Scrabble International/US, Lexulous International/US, and Words With Friends. Some people might say this constitutes cheating — I think if the other side knows you’re doing it, it’s definitely not cheating. And it doesn’t take the challenge out of the game, because implementing Scrabble Helper’s suggestions and deciding which words you’d like to connect with still takes a fair bit of thought.

Very handy, though perhaps not one for the Scrabble puritans in the crowd.

Smartphones crossed an important milestone in March, based on Nielsen’s estimates. Just over half of cellphone owners in the US — 50.4 percent, to be exact — had a smartphone of some kind, making dumbphones the minority for the first time. The smartphone tale of the tape shows that the OS split has largely tapered off since February. Android has only moved slightly and still sits atop the heap, claiming 48.5 percent of users, but Apple hasn’t had to worry given that 32 percent of smartphone owners use an iPhone. As is increasingly becoming the familiar story, other platforms trailed well behind: RIM’s BlackBerry sat at 11.6 percent, while Windows Mobile, at 4.1 percent, was more popular than its Windows Phone successor’s 1.7 percent. Apple can still claim to be the top-selling individual smartphone maker in the country, suggesting Samsung hasn’t translated its worldwide lead to the US just yet.

The brains of the operation, David Fuhriman, speaking to CNET, says it’s all about fulfilling Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. “CloudGirlfriend.com can fulfill Maslow’s higher needs, even though the users know that the interaction is virtual. They will interact with a real person and see real profile images of the girl with whom they interact. This interaction can build confidence and esteem as well as provide real training experiences in navigating a friendship and a relationship.”

Our concern, of course, is that it’s very nearly April 1. We’re also worried by the fact that Fuhriman has a name that sounds ominously like a social subculture that we’ve grown strangely attracted to here in the Download Squad bunker.

Finally, just stop and think about it for a second. Because your cloud girlfriend will be entirely virtual, she could be based anywhere. She could be underage — or overage — or she might be someone who you know in real life. She could even be a relative of yours, and you’d never know.

Let’s not forget this is the Internet we’re talking about, folks. Worst case scenario, she could turn out to be a hairy, male truck driver from Texas. Such as… your dad, perhaps?

When Amazon Appstore for Android launched last week, one of its primary features — Test Drive — was disabled just a few minutes after it opened. With no try-before-you-buy, no refund process, and 1-Click purchasing ready to strike at any moment, this caused some problems. Anyway, don’t despair: Test Drive is now enabled.

Before you get your hopes up, Test Drive doesn’t work with every app. The IMDb app works fine — you can even watch movie trailers on it! — but the Angry Birds games are sadly not enabled. Some games work surprisingly well, though, like Bubble Buster. There’s very little latency, and the framerate is really rather good. The Test Drive experience is so true to life that you even get ads; how cool is that?

Like live wallpapers? You'll find a couple of interesting new ones pre-loaded on the Samsung Galaxy S III, and we shot some video of them during our recent time with the phone. In addition to the standard ICS live wallpapers like "Bubbles" and "Phase beam", the Galaxy S III features a re-vamped version of Samsung's "Deep Sea" animation, and a new one called "Luminous Dots," which is a bit more subtle. We should also mention that there's no slowdown when you're using a live wallpaper on the S III. The launcher handles all the background animations without breaking a sweat, which is impressive when you consider that many Android phones continue to struggle with live wallpapers.

Now that Windows 8 images have begun leaking out, it’s only a matter of time until developers start releasing mods for Windows 7 which mimic upcoming features. Over at Into Windows, they’ve spotted one such mod already.

In the earliest Windows 8 images, we saw Windows Live integration on the taskbar. In the far right corner, there’s a user tile displayed. If you’d like to do the same on Windows 7, download Taskbar User Tile from DeviantArt user AngelWZR.

Once installed, your current picture will appear on the taskbar. Click it, and a menu appears which allows you to log off, switch users, and access the control panel. Right now, the mod only works if your taskbar is displayed on the bottom of your Windows desktop.

No, that’s not a QWERTY feature phone you’re looking at — it’s Google’s earliest Android development device, the Sooner. While the HTC-sourced phone itself hasn’t been a secret, the build of Android on this particular specimen, obtained by Steven Troughton-Smith, is something few eyes outside of Mountain View have seen. As Mr. Smith notes, this isn’t the first public build of Android that was detailed in November 2007 (M3), but rather an earlier version from May of that same year. The non-touch UI is almost totally unlike what eventually shipped with the touch-friendly HTC Dream, aside from obviously housing Android’s basic framework and apps including G Talk and the like. Would it be ironic if Android developers did an end-run around Microsoft patents by using Microsoft’s own C#? Or if Google kiboshed its Oracle brouhaha with the aid of none other than Redmond? We’re asking because Xamarin, the wacky open source implementer of .NET, has ported Android to Microsoft’s C# with its XobotOS project. Although just an experiment and unlikely to solve Google’s issues, the team showed that running the robot on C# instead of Java gave fewer coding limitations, better battery life and direct graphics access. Additionally, Xamarin reports “massive” speed gains on its HTC Flyer and Acer Iconia when running the side-project port — no surprise given C#’s machine heritage. Sure, it’s pure speculation that Mountain View and its developers would ever change their Java MO, but a little patent relief and faster Android devices in one kill shot? That’s a sweet idea.

The Motorola Droid 3 has a large system update queued and ready to roll out, but it's just another version of Gingerbread. The 5.7.905.XT862 update checks in about 230 MB, and is chock full of fixes, patches, and enhancements — all very welcome for most any user. With "only" 512 MB of RAM, we didn't really expect the Droid 3 to ever officially run Ice Cream Sandwich, but there's always that glimmer of hope when we see the system update prompt. What did get fixed and updated? I'm glad you asked.

• A Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.
• Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction.
• Avoid device interruption when accessing an application prior to the storage being fully mounted on the device.
• Improvements in device stability help avoid device power cycles.
• When connected to a Bluetooth® headset or HDMI cable, the device will no longer lock up and power cycle.
• Improvements to the camera’s auto focus will reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of captured imagery.

Burrito Bison is a pretty simple game, but if you’re into gummy bears you might find it addictive.

As you may have guessed from the name, you’re a bison (not a burrito, though). In the course of your day-to-day grocery shopping, you’re abducted into a bag of gummy bears, and must now fend for yourself.

At the beginning of each round you launch yourself onto the marching gummy (gummi?) bears, while you’re being watched by a huge crowd of even more gummy bears. Your goal is to keep bouncing on the bears and earn more and more money while you do it. Every time you hit a gummy bear, you lose some momentum. If you hit the floor, you basically lose all of it.

But don’t give up just yet! You have an emergency thrust which you can use to gain some momentum and keep bouncing on those bears. This extra thrust gets refilled as you hit more bears.

There are also special gummy bears that give you extra thrust or extra money. The money comes in handy at the end of each round, when you can shop for cool stuff to make your bison even more effective against those gummy bears.

It’s a fun and colorful game that kept my interest for quite some time, and almost sent me running to the closest store to get some gummy bears!

If you’re lucky enough to own an Xperia Play — Sony Ericsson’s new Gingerbread-powered smartphone-cum-gamepad — you can now buy PlayStation (PSX) titles from the Android Market.

There are five titles currently available, all priced at £3.99: Syphon Filter, MediEvil, Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, and Jumping Flash. They don’t have an American price yet, but that will surely change once the Xperia Play launches in the States.

Two important questions remain unanswered: How big are these games? The Market descriptions say the games are only 5MB, but that sounds incredibly unlikely — and more importantly, will it be possible to ‘spoof’ the Xperia Play and download PSX games onto other Gingerbread-powered phones, like the Nexus S?

In other news, the PlayStation emulator PSX4droid was recently removed from the Android Market. This obviously has nothing to do with today’s release of first-party PlayStation games.

We know that heading into tonight's Samsung Galaxy S III launch event, one of the big questions you guys had surrounded any US availability. We got a couple of answers that should tide you over. 

Yes, there is a 4G LTE version of the Galaxy S III, and yes the phone will be coming to the US. As this slide from the keynote shows us, we're expecting the first signs of the new Samsung flagship in the US in June. What we still don't know at this point, is whether or not this will be the launch, or the availability of the device.

For now, we'll just have to wait until the US carriers start to announce the device, but worry-ye-not American Samsung fans. This time around there won't be that long wait that came for the Galaxy S II.

It truly is the end of an era. In just under two weeks, Microsoft will follow through with its plan to shutter the Windows Mobile 6.x Marketplace for good. In a cautionary email, Redmond asked that those still using a WM device “install any available updates in advance of the [...] shut-down,” scheduled for May 17th. Not all hope is lost for the antiquated mobile operating system, though, as the announcement reminds technology holdouts that application updates can be acquired directly from developers (good luck with that). If you’re out on the town this evening having a few drinks with friends, remember to pour one out for Windows Mobile, a true OG smartphone operating system.

We’ve all thought it, but never dared think it could be true: what if Microsoft, Yahoo, and AOL actively monitor our instant messenger chats? What if mentions of ‘bomb’ and ‘underage’ are tracked and sent to law enforcement agencies? What if chat providers don’t agree with the things we say, or the links we share, and filter or censor the content of our transmitted messages?

Well, it looks like our fears may actually have some basis in reality: Yahoo Messenger strips FilesTube links from instant messages. It doesn’t tell either party that a URL has been removed from chat — it just deletes it. Poof. FilesTube, in case you were wondering, is one of the largest file hosting meta search engines on the Web — it indexes RapidShare, Megaupload, Mediafire, and many other ‘cyberlocker’ services.

It’s fairly obvious why FilesTube links are being removed — the Censor General at Yahoo is probably one of those perplexed primates who think all uses of BitTorrent are illegal — but this situation poses a far more important question: is Yahoo censoring messages on the client side, or the server side. Does the messenger client itself maintain a list of ‘blacklisted’ words — and if so, why are we not told that FilesTube links are banned? What other words and terms does Yahoo protect us from?

Update: Carphone Warehouse is now offering a pre-order price for the Galaxy S III, at £499.95 — about the going rate for a high-end smartphone in the UK.

We're just back from Samsung's Galaxy S III unveiling at the 2012 Unpacked event in London, where it's been announced that the phone will go on sale in Europe from May 29. Following the S III's public debut the usual host of carriers and retailers have announced that they'll be stocking the device.

We already knew that O2 UK and Vodafone UK would be getting Samsung's new flagship smartphone, but we can add Three and Orange to that list, as both have today confirmed that they'll range the S III. And Vodafone says it'll exclusively offer the 32GB version in the UK for the first month of its availability. And we've had confirmation from Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse that they'll stock the Galaxy S III, too.

Elsewhere, Samsung will revealed a world tour event that'll take place in several cities around the world. Venues will include Moscow, Beijing, Zurich, Dubai, Seoul, Delhi, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, New York and an unannounced location in  South-East Asia.

At the very tail end of its Galaxy S III event, Samsung promised one more surprise — and what it gave us was a special retail strategy. The company will be opening Mobile Pin locations, or glass-housed pop-up stores, to help showcase its new flagship phone. We had a chance to look at examples of the stores first-hand. Those not at the launch event will get a look in the near future, with Mobile Pins appearing at several locations throughout London. The first Pins will open on May 29th, with the Pin 5 (a 5-by-5 meter indoor location) making temporary appearances at Spitalfields Market, Westfield and White City, while the 7-by-7 outdoor version (Pin 7) will pop up in the Olympic Park along with Hyde Park at a later date this year. Samsung is also planning to introduce the Pin concept abroad, with plans for two US cities currently in the works, along with a yet-unnamed country in Asia — Korea would be our guess. Using some early numbers from both StatCounter and Net Applications, Mozilla’s noisiest hominid, Asa Dotzler, has illustrated Firefox 4′s meteoric rise to around 5% of Web browser global usage share. Internet Explorer 9, which launched two weeks ago, seems to be enjoying a much more casual stroll in the park with just 1.5% of the global Web usage share.

Interestingly, we can see IE9 dipping between March 20 and 21, just before the ‘Important’ Windows Update rolled out. It’s hard to say whether IE9 is only growing because of the installed-by-default Windows Update, but that small dip definitely sticks out — did excitement peter out? Did people download IE9, try it out, and summarily uninstall it? Perhaps, given their close proximity, the stats show an attention shift from Microsoft to Mozilla?

Numbers-wise, if the bottom left corner of the graph shows 2.3 million downloads for IE9, we can guesstimate that that it has now been downloaded 5 million times. Firefox is clocking in at 37 million downloads after five days of public availability.

We wonder whether Microsoft knew its release schedule would coincide so closely with Firefox 4. Internet Explorer 9 — a great browser by almost every metric — was never going to do well against anything emanating from the maws of Mozilla. The main thing, though, is that Microsoft has now shown that it’s serious when it comes to the Open Web. If Internet Explorer 10 is good, and 11 and 12, then we might finally see it compete with the zealous Mozillan horde.

Color, the $41-million-in-funding location-oriented photo sharing startup, is susceptible to simple GPS spoofing. With nothing more than a jailbroken iPad or iPhone, you can use FakeLocation to trick Color into thinking you’re somewhere else. Within seconds you can be browsing photos that were snapped thousands of miles away. With a little digging, you can pore through photos not intended for your eyes.

Of course, such a hack isn’t illegal as such — every photo you take with Color is public. With FakeLocation you are simply circumventing Color’s very limited location-oriented security mechanism. It does undermine Color’s usefulness (and uniqueness), though — if nefarious types can sit in their bedroom or basement and eavesdrop on classy dinner parties and wild night club soirees, people might be less inclined to share personal photos with those around them.

Fortunately, both for Color and its users, this is an easy security hole to plug — at least in the short term. The app (or server-side) code simply checks to see if the user has ‘teleported’ an impossibly large distance, without any intermediate steps in between. In the long term, though, Color’s users must be aware that its social graph is completely public. Color’s users must realize that every photo they upload is visible by anyone, from any place.
