YouTube Remote wants to control your leanback experience

If you like to spend your days perusing YouTube videos then the latest Google offering, YouTube Remote might be of interest. As described on the YouTube Blog:

YouTube Remote creates a virtual connection between your phone and YouTube Leanback. To ‘pair’ your phone with your Leanback screen, simply sign into YouTube Remote on your Android phone, and to YouTube Leanback on your Google TV or computer with the same YouTube account.

Having tested YouTube Remote out today for the first time, I have to say it is pretty cool, although I’m struggling to find many use cases for it. If I have a Google TV then I have a keyboard to go with it. If I’m near my PC then I also have a keyboard right there. Just seems more of a novelty application or one that I would use after coming home from the bar. [YouTube Blog]

A source told BGR that Apple has changed the screening process they utilize to determine if an iPod has been damage due to water intrusion. Apple utilizes what is known as Liquid Contact Indicators in their mobile devices. In the event moisture comes into contact with these LCIs they become activated which will in turn let an Apple representative know that there was been water damage.

In the past Apple store employees would merely look inside the headphone jack and check on the LCI to see if it had been activated by water. At that point they were able to say the water was the cause of the issues and you would basically be out of luck. Now with the new policy not only will they check for the LCI but they are also being told to check for other signs of water damage before making a decision on what could have caused the device to malfunction.

Whether or not this change is due to false positives from incidental moisture contact or simply a change of heart within Apple is unknow. However, this could definately been a huge plus for the consumers who have had issues prior and were told that merely having an activated LCI that their warranty was null and void.

Our question is, will Apple apply the same new policy to iPhones and iPads?

Bluetooth 3.0 is poised to bring some big improvements, like WiFi hand-off for approximately 24Mbps data transfers… but how good is that for a mouse? We still don’t really know, but that isn’t stopping Elecom from boasting about its new, “first ever” BT 3.0 mouse — and as best as we can tell, it lacks the “+ HS” protocol for utilizing the aforementioned 802.11 speeds. In other words, we don’t think this was a race to beat the competition so much as it was one company finally saying, “hey, why not?” Japan denizens should be able to pick this up next month for ¥4,200 with tax, or about $52 in US bills.

TiPb – The #1 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Blog

We see quite a few questions in our Jailbreak Forums about jailbreak basics. So, we’ve decided to compile a master list of some basic jailbreak magic right here in one place. Hopefully this will help a lot of you beginner jailbreakers learn the ropes (and maybe even help some of you decide whether the leap to the jailbreak world has its advantages for you). We’ve included common jailbreak lingo, popular jailbreak apps and tools, and videos highlighting some awesome jailbreak utilities!

Common Jailbreak Terms

Jailbreak

The most obvious of all terms, but yet the most confused. Jailbreaking simply allows users to have access to certain core functionality that Apple doesn’t give us stock. A jailbreak also gives users access to applications Apple may have rejected via Cydia. It also allows custom loading of apps (on Android, loading applications yourself is referred to as side-loading, just as rooting is to Android, jailbreak is to iPhone). On the iPhone you can use the SSH method or use iPhone Explorer. Jailbreaking allows customization at its core meaning, but shouldn’t be confused with unlocking.

Unlocking

Unlocking your iPhone allows you to use it on any GSM carrier. Simply meaning, if you have an AT&T iPhone, unlocking it will allow you to use it on T-Mobile USA or even Rogers Wireless in Canada by simply inserting a different SIM card. A lot of jailbreakers will unlock their iPhones not only to use on a different carrier, but to increase resale value. The unlock process can change from firmware to firmware but typically, you’ll need to jailbreak your phone and then install a program via Cydia like ultrasn0w or yellowsn0w, which will then unlock your iPhone.

Cydia

Apple has the App Store, jailbreakers have Cydia in addition to the default App Store. And if you want to be technical, Cydia was THE first App Store. It was available with iOS 1.x and allowed jailbreakers to download apps before the App Store even existed. Those who jailbroke their first generation iPhones on 1.x have seen several jailbreak ideas and concepts become parts of iOS. We would mention Rock here, but seeing as Cydia acquired Rock, there’s probably no point now. Another term you may hear when it comes to Cydia is repos, or repositories. These are simply sources you add in the manage section. ModMyi and BigBoss are two of the largest. They are already added when you install Cydia. You are always welcome to add custom repos if you choose. I highly advise only adding repos from trusted sources. If you have a weird feeling about adding it, I’d probably pass.

YouTube Link

Recovery Mode/DFU Mode

Many people still confuse these two terms. They ARE different. There IS an easy way to tell which mode your phone is in. If your screen shows a connect to iTunes logo with a slide for emergency option, you are in recovery mode. If the slide for emergency option is not there and you only see the connect to iTunes logo, you are in DFU mode (DFU mode can also present as a blank screen as well).

The main difference between these two modes is what they will and won’t bypass for installs. Recovery mode will implement iBoot (basically a portion of the bootloader than runs an integrity check) which will not allow you to downgrade your device. DFU mode will still talk to iTunes but it bypasses iBoot which will then allow you to downgrade firmware. Most jailbreaks will require DFU mode for these reasons. To enter DFU mode, you will follow these steps:

  • Turn off your iPhone
  • Hold down your power and home buttons
  • Release the power button when the Apple logo appears, but continue holding down the home button. You should be presented with a Connect to iTunes logo.
  • Plug in your phone and iTunes should yell at you and say you must restore the device before it can be used.

SHSH Blobs

A lot of people ask about this one and why Cydia wants to save them. When you upgrade firmware in iTunes, you’ll see at the top when you start a restore “Verifying restore with Apple”. Apple only signs current firmware versions. If you accidentally upgrade and then try to downgrade, your restore will fail. SHSH blobs save you from this headache. It will basically give iTunes a fake hand to shake, which in turn, makes iTunes think your restore has been verified. This can be a life saver if you accidentally upgrade and need to downgrade. TinyUmbrella will save SHSH blobs to the Cydia server as well. I highly recommend saving your blobs for every firmware version in case you ever find yourself in this predicament. We have posted a guide on how to save SHSH blobs via TinyUmbrella.

Baseband

The baseband is essentially the part of your device that controls the antennae. This has everything to do with your service and signal. This is why most unlockers have to be extremely careful when upgrading. If the baseband changes, it can permanently keep them from achieving an unlock. This is the main reason most unlockers tend to favor PwnageTool. It creates a custom firmware bundle for you to upgrade to that doesn’t upgrade the baseband, only the main OS. If you are running on a legitimate carrier and don’t care about unlocking, the baseband it typically less of a concern. Wifi and Bluetooth don’t run on the baseband either, so iPod touch or iPad owners typically don’t have concerns when it comes to new baseband versions.

Springboard

On a desktop you have a desktop, on an iPhone you have a springboard. It’s basically the interface you constantly interact with. Another term you’ll come in contact with is respringing. This is basically the act of restarting the springboard. Some jailbreak apps you install will require you to do this. All changes in the appearance of your phone via Winterboard (explained below) will require a respring as well. It’s nothing more than refreshing your desktop on a computer.

Common ways to Jailbreak

There are three commonly used tools to Jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch under iOS 4.1 and iPad under iOS 3.2. We’ve got video tutorials for each of them.

Common Jailbreak Utilities

Winterboard

A lot of people jailbreak for the ability to change the look of their iPhone. Enter Winterboard, which is a free download via Cydia. It’s a necessary utility to install themes and most customizations. Many veteran jailbreakers will remember the days of Summerboard as well. Winterboard took its place a few years back and improved upon several things. When you install a theme, all the components will show up in Winterboard. Depending upon how a theme developer decided to bundle their theme, you may have only one package in Winterboard, or you may have several. I personally prefer when developers separate theme elements. Since Winterboard works as a hierarchy, I can select a theme and if I don’t like the sounds, I can download a sound pack I “do” like and apply that in Winterboard. The key is to move it above the main theme so it overrides the sounds I don’t want. I highly suggest jailbreakers to become very familiar and comfortable with Winterboard. If you do, there is no limit to what you can do to your phone and you’ll be able to tweak and customize even the littlest details of your springboard.

YouTube Link

SBSettings

This free utility allows you to add quick toggles that will drop down onto your springboard. There are also several plug-ins and themes you can download for SBSettings as well. It’ll also allow you to hide icons you don’t want or use. This is especially useful for hiding stock apps you can’t uninstall. I hide the default weather and stock apps among others that are simply wasting space on my springboard. You’ll also be able to more closely keep tabs on your memory and running processes. This was extremely useful before multitasking. It’s still useful today for freeing up memory and seeing what may be eating through battery or slowing your phone down.

buy clomid pct name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”> YouTube Link

iWipeCache

Prior to 3.x, iOS didn’t cache icons in a way that created issues. The problem now with 3.x and beyond is the way the file system caches icons. When you switch themes, sometimes you’ll notice certain icons don’t change or they stay stuck on the last theme you had active. Prior to iWipecache, you had to SSH into your phone and delete the cache in certain folders and respring. iWipecache simplifies this process and does it for you on the go. It’s a free utility and something I’d highly recommend to anyone who likes to change UI elements and themes frequently. If there is ever a time iWipeCache doesn’t work, especially under iOS 4.x, try going into Winterboard and toggling Summerboard mode on and off, then respringing. This seems force even the most stubborn icons to change.

OpenSSH

Open SSH is a utility that allows SSH access to your device. You can then use an SSH client to access your device’s main file system for editing. Simpler utilities now exist, such as iPhone explorer which you’ll download to your PC or Mac. When you plug your iPhone, iPod, or iPad in, it will bring up the file system and you can edit without SSH access. I recommend using a utility like iPhone explorer over SSH as it’s safer. SSH can open you up to hackers and give others access to your file system if you forget to disable it. SSH is also a huge battery hog. The only benefit is that you don’t have to have your phone plugged in to SSH. You must be plugged in to use a utility like iPhone explorer. If you decide to use the SSH option, make sure to change your iPhone root and user passwords. You can visit our Jailbreak Forums if you need help doing this.

Notification Replacement Apps

There are more than a few choices when it comes to selecting a notification app. LockInfo, Intelliscreen, and Notified Pro are all acceptable selections. Most offer trials so it’s really up to personal preference. I’m a major fan of LockInfo and find it much more user friendly than Intelliscreen. Notified Pro has also been gaining some ground and continues to add many improvements as well. Since Apple has yet to improve upon their notification system, I highly suggest checking these out and implementing one of them. You’ll be happy you did. I’ve already posted a guide to setting up LockInfo so be sure to check that out as well.

levaquin information href=”http://www.tipb.com/2010/11/09/jailbreak-quickguide-common-tools-terms-apps/img_0752/” rel=”attachment wp-att-43102″>

SMS Apps and Add-Ons

There are many apps that improve SMS capabilities as well. I personally use BiteSMS but apps such as TLert and iRealSMS are more than acceptable candidates as well. QuickReply for SMS is also a good app but be warned that the developer has decided to not continue with it. It’s rumored to go free (if it hasn’t already). So if you’re okay with the current bugs and don’t expect updates, it may be an acceptable option for you. Most of these apps allow you to reply quickly to texts without it interrupting your work-flow. They’ll also allow you to create gestures on the springboard which will allow you to quickly send an SMS without ever leaving the current app you’re already in.

MyWi

Many users are left bitter when certain carriers want to charge them an additional fee just for the privilege of tethering. MyWi is a wonderful little app and in my opinion, a major reason to jailbreak on its own. MyWi alllows you to create a wifi hotspot with your iPhone. I have a wifi only iPad and I never even considered purchasing the 3G version. I simply tether my iPad to my iPhone. Just be wary of doing this if you don’t have an unlimited data plan. As of writing this, MyWi currently costs $19.99. It may seem like a hefty price tag but you’ll pay that in data and/or tethering fees in less than 2 months. You’ll only pay for MyWi once. You do the math.

My3G

Similar to MyWi, this app is a tweak that allows you to lift certain restrictions carriers and Apple have in place. It will allow you to trick your phone into thinking you have a wifi connection when you are really on the carrier network. This trick comes in handy if you need to download an app over 20MB and aren’t in range of wifi. It also allows you to use FaceTime over 3G as well. There is also another app called 3G Unrestrictor which will also allow you to make FaceTime calls over 3G.

As always, if you guys think of anything awesome you think should be on this list, shoot me an e-mail to ally.kazmucha@tipb.com or post it in the comments below!

Want to know what a printer with an Android mini-tablet looks like? Feast your eyes on the "HP Photosmart eStation All-in-One Printer Series – C510" (pause for breath) and itss little Android-powered control can i buy clomid online station (neé Zeen). Sure, we could talk specs here – Like Android 2.1, a 7" screen, and so on – but HP is pretty much using Android like many companies use WinCE: as a quick OS to build their custom stuff on. Hence: no Google Apps like Gmail or Android Marketplace for 3rd party apps. Regarding the latter – HP says they will continue to evaluate apps that can bring quality printing experiences. Something we pretty much take as code for "you know we’re switching this stuff to webOS soon, right?"

In any case, the mini-tablet does have some clever bits on it – the notification drawer has the printer’s status and email address right there along with a shortcut to a dashboard that shows you ink levels and the like. There are a smattering of other apps like Yahoo Weather (with printing!), Snapfish (with printing!), and the default Android web browser munged up with a permanent menu at the bottom (with printing!).

Build-wise, it’s nothing to write home about. There’s a weird swoop on the rear of the tablet, but the full SD card slot is a nice touch. buy Amoxil without prescription online cheap HP has added music functions as well. No word on battery life, but this is most definitely a print and print-app device with just a little bit of classic Android peeking through.

Basically, our take is that if you’re in the market for a cool printer – have at it, this eStation is actually very cool and the email-to-print feature is underrated. Just don’t expect to get a sweet Android tablet along with it. If you want an Android tablet, there are better ones coming that don’t have a printer attached.

I thought the Web had gotten over the irritating conception that omitting vowels from domain names somehow makes them sound cooler. Alas, LinkPeelr proves me wrong.

Domain name aside, this is a handy service. You feed it with a shortened URL, click Peel, and you get to see where it leads. A nice feature is the ability to easily repeat the process. This is handy in case a shortened URL points to another shortened URL, which only then points to the actual destination. In this case, all you do is simply hit Peel again, and LinkPeelr reveals the destination once more.

I took Download Squad’s URL and shortened it with goo.gl, and then I took the goo.gl URL and shortened that with bit.ly, and LinkPeelr worked as advertised. It was very fast, too.

Perhaps more useful than the site itself is its Chrome extension. After installing it, you can hover over any shortened URL and get a nice-looking tooltip with its destination. I say “nice-looking” because it’s not styled as a default Windows tooltip; they’ve applied their own formatting, and it’s rather swanky. The only niggle I’ve experienced with the add-on is that it truncates URLs that are too long, which it really shouldn’t do.

In Rocket Science, you control a bunch of rockets. There aren’t very many, mind you (between one to three on each buy Amoxil cheap online without prescription level), but it’s what you do with those rockets that counts. You see, this is a game of careful manipulation, calculation, and observation – brute force has no place here.

Basically, you have to hit the planets with your rockets. Hit all the lava planets, and you’re done. At the beginning of each level, you aim your rockets. You can move them around the designated area (surrounded by a rectangle) and change their angles. Once you’re ready, just hit the FIRE button, and off they go. If everything works according to plan, you’ll hit all of the lava planets (and some other planets, too) and move to the next level.

It starts off really simple – the first few levels are an absolute breeze, but they’re still fun because of the physics. Things do get more challenging later on, but as far as time-wasters go, this is a fairly easy one. It’s also quite kid-friendly.

Remember, remember, the fifth of November!

If you celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, liked V for Vendetta, or even if you’re just extremely bored, you might get a (modest) kick out of Guy Fawkes Adventures. It’s a simple puzzler where you push barrels around to their designated positions. When all barrels are in place, there’s a resounding BOOM and you’re transported to the next level.

Each level gets a code, and you can enter the level code to jump right to the level where you left off. And yes, the screenshot contains the code for level 2 – I saved you a whole level!

As you might have gathered from looking at that screenshot, this isn’t exactly a masterpiece of computer graphics. That’s simply because there’s a serious dearth of Guy Fawkes-themed Web games. If you know of a good one, share it in the comments!

It might not be November 9 all around the world yet, but NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 580 has already had its spec sheet dished out to the world, courtesy of CyberPower’s seemingly early announcement. The new chip will offer a 772MHz clock speed, 512 processing cores, and a 192.4GBps memory bandwidth, courtesy of 1.5GB of GDDR5 clocked at an effective rate of 4GHz. CyberPower is strapping this beast into its finest rigs, and for additional overkill it’ll let you SLI up to three of them within one hot and steamy case. Now let’s just wait patiently for midnight to roll around and see what the reviewers thought of NVIDIA’s next big thing.

Update: CRN has a $499 price for us and a recital of NVIDIA’s internal estimate that the GTX 580 bests the GTX 480 by between 20 and 35 percent. It seems, however, that the embargo for this hot new slice of silicon is set for early tomorrow morning, so check back then for the expert review roundup.

Update 2: Lusting to see one on video? How about two side by side? Skip past the break for the eye candy [Thanks, Rolly Carlos!].

Some time ago someone asked me how he could backup the SMS on iPhone to computer. Normally you use iTunes and sync all SMS data to computer. But that was the answer he’s looking for. He would like to export his SMS from iPhone to computer as a file in CSV format (a comma-delimited file). Later he could read the SMS on computer and import the messages to other mobile devices.

In iPhone, all the text messages are saved inside a mobile database. With jailbreaking, you can actually save that database back to computer and manipulate the data with some SQL database tools.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to save the SMS database, export the messages into a CSV file and read it in Excel. This tip is for geek who wants to gain full access to the text message on iPhone directly. If you just want to backup where can you buy clomid the text messages to computer, simply sync your iPhone with iTunes and the SMS should be saved to computer automatically.

Get the Tools

Before you can backup and read the SMS database, get prepared with the required tools. Simply click the link to download iPhone Explorer and SQLite Database Browser to your computer.

Both tools are available for Windows and Mac platform. Just make sure you download the correct version.

Backup the SMS database from iPhone to Computer

Next, backup the SMS database to computer. First, connect your iPhone to computer via USB and launch “iPhone Explorer”. Go to /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS and download the “sms.db” file to computer.

Export SMS to CSV File

As you’ve saved the database file on computer, you can now use SQLite Database Browser to export the levaquin prescription text messages.

1. Launch SQLite Database Browser you’ve downloaded.

2. Once launched, click “File” -> “Open Database”. Select the “sms.db” file you’ve just downloaded from iPhone.

If you can open the database correctly, you’ll see the database structure screen.

3. Next, click “File” – > “Export” and select “Table as CSV File”.

4. Select the “message” table when prompted and then click “Export” button.

5. Choose the file path and name you want to save the CSV file.

6. After you click “OK”, the SQLite Database Browser will automatically export your text messages to a file in CSV format.

7. Use Microsoft Excel or iWork’s Numbers to open the CSV file. You’ll be able to read the text messages (in text column) and manipulate them.

This tip is particularly useful when you abandon iPhone and adopt other mobile devices. You can use this method to archive the text messages and even import them to the new device.

Been waiting on an Eee PC 1215N with an AMD Neo processor? Or how about an Eee PC 1015T with a 12.1-inch display? We know, you need a damn almanac to keep up with all of ASUS’ netbooks, but if you have in fact been waiting on the respective strengths of those two Eee PC variants, the company’s got you covered with its new 1215T. Forgoing the Intel Atom / NVIDIA Ion 2 combo for a single core 1.7GHz AMD Athlon K125 processor, the 12.1-inch notbook (our word for a machine that’s not really a netbook anymore) packs 2GB of RAM, an 320GB hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium. The system looks to have the same chassis as the $485 Eee PC 1215N we reviewed not too long ago, but instead rings up at around $436 on Amazon right now. We obviously haven’t tested the AMD version nor have we seen any reviews, but we’d venture to guess that while you may save $50, you’ll give up the better battery life of the Intel / Ion-powered 1215N — the AMD Neo laptops we’ve tested haven’t lasted where to buy clomid longer than four hours on a charge. That’s just our hunch, but hey, don’t let us stop you from hitting that source link and ordering one right now.

Open Handset Alliance member confirms Android 2.3 is Gingerbread, coming to Nexus One in 'next few days'

For an “Open” Handset Alliance, Google has been keeping its cards rather close to its chest when it comes to the oft-discussed Gingerbread flavor of Android, specifically whether it would be another point cheap Amoxil without prescription online buy release or could it be spicy enough to knock us up to 3.0. Prepare your Nexus One (Developer version) for Android OTA update 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the next few days :-D

Thanks to a new tweak available in the Cydia store called Parallax, you can now enable scrolling/panoramic wallpapers on your jailbroken iPhone.

If you are unaware of what panoramic wallpapers are, they are simply pictures that will scroll as you change pages on your springboard. This is a great feature if you have a wide shot of a family or group or for amazing nature photos.

Unfortunately iPhone 3G/iPod touch G2 (2008) owners are warned to not install this tweak as the developer has said it is fairly memory intensive and could cause those devices to run slower. If you have an iPhone 3GS or an iPhone 4 you can hit up the Cydia store and download Parallax for $1.49.

Check out a video of this tweak in action after the break!

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.

The title of Apple’s recent Back to the Mac event turned out to have multiple meanings. The first was heralding a shift of Apple’s event focus to the product that was once synonymous with the company. But it also had a more literal connotation, that traits associated both with iPad software and hardware would now be finding their way back to the Apple’s computers. But the impact of this round trip could have different levaquin side effects implications for hardware and software.

Apple’s new MacBook Air was cited as taking on traits associated with the iPad such as thinness, flash storage, longer battery life, and instant on. The new MacBook Air also dispenses with an optical drive, but so did the previous MacBook Air, and indeed so do nearly all netbooks and quite a few other “thin and light” notebook PCs. Most would agree that the new hardware choices produce desirable traits in an ultramobile notebook.

Coming hot on the heels of the ultra-impressive G2, T-Mobile has returned to its myTouch series with the myTouch 4G. While the G2 is the natural enthusiast flagship, the 4G represents a flagship in its own right of a skinned, curated Android experience. If the cheap Amoxil online buy without prescription G2 is the Droid 2 killer, T-Mobile probably sees the myTouch as the iPhone 4 killer (even the name has a similarity to the popular “iTouch” misnomer, and the 4G / 4 mirrors T-Mobile’s matchy matchy naming sense with the myTouch 3G / iPhone 3G… we’re just saying, is all). So, what does that mean in practice? Some impressive functionality inside and out, including a front facing camera for video calls, HSPA+ network speeds, and WiFi Calling. How does it all play out in the real world? Let’s find out.

Nobody will be too shocked to hear NVIDIA expects its next flagship GPU to be the fastest that’s ever been, but few will have guessed it’d also be one of the company’s coolest and quietest. In the first public teasing of its next-gen graphics card (which is almost certain to bear the GeForce GTX 580 name tag), NVIDIA has revealed a new vapor chamber cooling system, which reminds us of Shuttle‘s ICE CPU cooler — basically, water sealed within the chamber gets boiled by the hot elements (a copper plate in NVIDIA’s case), which forces it to transfer heat away to the bits that are being cooled by the fan, where it chills out and recycles itself back to the boiling plate. The end result, according to NVIDIA, is about seven decibels less vroom relative to the GTX 480, along with lower operational temperatures. Besides that, the company’s Tom Petersen also showed off an impressive tessellation demo and the first public display of Call of Duty: Black Ops gameplay, which was powered by this as yet unannounced GPU. Skip past the break to see it all levaquin coupon on video.

Look no further, bubs. MSI has just outed its latest 3D-friendly laptop, the CX620 3D. Outfitted with a Core i5 (or a Core i3, if you’re looking to save a few bucks), this 15.6-incher also gets up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 GPU, HDMI / VGA outputs, 320/500/640GB hard drive, a DVD writer, two USB 2.0 sockets, an ExpressCard slot, 4-in-1 card reader and a pair of stereo speakers. You’ll find Windows 7 Home Premium runnin’ the show, while 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, gigabit Ethernet and a 1.3 megapixel webcam all make expected appearances. There’s no telling how long the six-cell Li-ion will last once the deathmatch gets going, nor how much it’ll cost when it lands sometime between now and who knows when. But hey, 3D!

Samsung Continuum $199 after contract, rebate

Samsung Continuum Pricing

We’ve know just about everything there is to know about the Samsung Continuum — we brought you the first full hands-on and first video preview, there’s also the launch date — and now, finally, pricing. The dual-screen Android smartphone will cost $199.99 after two-year contract and rebate. That goes up to $269 after rebate and a one-year deal (that’s not bad at all!) and $579 outright.

Now all we need is the phone to, you know, actually be announced. And that’s going to happen Monday.

iDECT iHomePhone 2000 – Bringing Android to your landline phone

With all the growth happening on the Android platform, I’ve kind of been waiting for this sort of thing to pop up again. It’s not really a new concept, (Motorola had demos of devices like this one, among other companies) but it’s the most recent iteration of the idea put to product. The iDECT iHomePhone 2000 is an Android powered, Wi-Fi enabled home land line phone that allows you to surf the web, watch YouTube videos and will gladly play you your favorite internet radio stations all on a 2.8-inch touchscreen display.

In addition to all those goodies, the iDECT iHomePhone 2000 also makes use of DECT levaquin 500 mg cordless technology to ensure that no matter where you are in your house, you can still make and receive phone calls. Still not sold? Well, maybe the 14-minute digital answering machine, hands-free speakerphone and contacts manager that holds 300 contact numbers will be enough to sell you on the £99.99 price tag. We’ve already heard Samsung boast that it expects to ship 10 million Galaxy Tabs by next year, and the company’s now back at the prediction game yet again, with mobile biz president J.K. Shin saying he expects the company to sell a million of them this year alone — given that the end of the year is fast approaching, that translates to a million sold in just under 60 days. As if that wasn’t enough, Shin also told Nikkei that Samsung expects to sell 40 million smartphones in 2011, which is more than double its projection for this year — of those, it obviously expects the majority to be Galaxy S phones, but it has quite a way to go from ten million it expects to sell this year. Incidentally, Shin also dropped another hint that Samsung would “soon” be releasing a 10-inch Galaxy Tab, but he doesn’t seem to have provided any more details than we’ve heard before.

The switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time happens tonight at 2 am. But as we learned from Australian and and Buy cheap Levaquin online Without Prescription – Online Drugstore href=”http://www.tipb.com/2010/11/01/iphone-dst-alarm-clock-bug-hits-europe/”>European iPhone users, the iPhone’s alarm clock will not recognize this change. In fact, your alarm is likely to go off an hour late.

This is a very strange bug. Australian users were reporting that their alarms were going off early after the time change, and European iPhones were going of late. Even stranger is that we received reports of people in the US already being affected by the bug – their alarms are going off early.

The key thing to note about this bug is that it does not affect one-time alarms. So if you have a recurring alarm that wakes you up for work each morning, change the repeat interval to “never”. It’s very frustrating to need to set the alarm every day, but it’s the only option until Apple releases a software fix.

The good news is, it is fixed in iOS 4.2 which might be coming as early as next week. The bad news is that’s a week too late to help with this bug. I don’t know about you, but I’m really disappointed in Apple for not releasing a quick fix for this bug. They knew about it, so they should’ve fixed it before the time change.

Internet Explorer 9 beta, faster than Chrome

It’s the first of November, and bang on schedule the official Internet Explorer blog has published updated market share figures for October. The main stand-out figure comes from Net Applications: 1.46% of Windows 7 users are now using Internet Explorer 9.

These are small figures percentage-wise, but in comparison to other beta browsers, such as Chrome 8 and 9 (Canary), Internet Explorer 9 is in the lead by some margin. If you take a look down the table, you’ll notice that Firefox 4 also has more beta users than Chrome.

Worldwide, IE9′s market share gained by 0.21%, up to 0.32%. Chrome, across all four (!) of its public versions, only grew by 0.19%. We foresee big marketing campaigns from both Google and Microsoft in our immediate future…

alertful

“Remember Mom’s birthday,” says the bland email from Google Calendar. Sometimes that’s enough, really — but other times, you may want to add a bit of pizzazz to make things more interesting… Especially if you’re sending that scheduled reminder to someone other than yourself.

Alertful is a simple, well-designed email alert service. It works kind of like e-cards: there are tailor-made reminders for all sorts of specific occasions, such as a birthday, a meeting reminder, a holiday reminder, a “pet to the vet” reminder, and even a “money reminder.” It’s British, so there’s an “MOT renewal reminder,” too (that’s Ministry of Transport, I believe). Each reminder has a little tie-wearing dude with a speech bubble, telling you something like “Remember, your MOT is about to expire on….” Here’s a sample.

When you set a reminder, you have to fill in a short form with the date, the email you wish to send the reminder to, the frequency (one off, or how often the reminder should be sent), and some other details. I only wish they had custom forms for the different reminders – they all seem to contain the same set of questions. All in all, Alertful is a neat little service.

Alertful lets you schedule cute, lively email reminders originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 15:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

The Dell Streak has been spotted in a new commercial that’s jam packed with various use cases for the device. It’s cool to see an ad featuring the Streak since there haven’t been that many since its release. An interesting point about this commercial is that it doesn’t mention any carriers, only that it is sold by Dell and Best Buy. Check it out for yourself after the break!

Huawei might be making inroads into the US consumer smartphone market, but the Chinese telecom supplier’s attempts to break into big business have been stonewalled. Now, the Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint is excluding both Huawei and competitor ZTE from a multi-billion dollar contract — where they would have been the lowest bidders — primarily because of national security concerns. The US Secretary of Commerce reportedly called Sprint CEO Dan Hesse to voice concerns about letting firms with possible ties to the Chinese government supply local communications infrastructure, a perspective also penned by eight US senators back in August. “DoD is very concerned about China’s emerging cyber capabilities and any potential vulnerability within or threat to DoD networks,” the Department of Defense told the publication, without naming Huawei or ZTE directly. We’re not doctors, but it sounds like someone’s got a serious case of supercomputer envy.

 LG Optimus S Unboxing

Before the Internet and YouTube, nobody had any can i buy clomid without a prescription interest in watching someone else open boxes.  Now, it’s practically a rite of passage.

Cult of Mac says PrimeSense, the company whose technology is behind Microsoft’s new Xbox Kinect, originally tried to sell it to Apple. What went wrong and why didn’t Apple get it? Yup, secrecy and control!

Apple has a history of interface innovation, of course, and had recently introduced the iPhone with its paradigm-shifting multitouch UI. PrimeSense’s system went one step further: It was multitouch that you didn’t even have to touch. Apple seemed like a natural fit.

Yet the initial meetings hadn’t gone so well. Obsessed with secrecy, Apple had already asked [PrimeSense CEO Inon Beracha] to sign a stack of crippling legal agreements and NDAs.

He shook his head. Why didn’t he want to do a deal with Apple? No need. The technology was hot. He could sell it to anyone.

I just got an Xbox Kinect and have been testing it out. The setup was a bit long and the only game I’ve tried so far is Kinect Adventure. (Farbod says Kinect Sports is better). We’re standing about 7-feet away and it works well enough for a single player but has issues with buy Amoxil without prescription online cheap 2 players. We lose the second player a lot. I’m going to try lowering the lights and seeing if we can increase the distance.

Contrast this with using the original iPhone’s multitouch, which in my experience and in published tests is still not matched by other phones, and it’s easy to see Apple did a great job and really polished the experience before they released it.

What would an Apple Kinect-style controller have looked like and how would it have performed? We’ll never know now, but we can speculate in the comments! Minority Report iPhone anyone?

(Note: Image above is not really Steve Ballmer using a Kinect, but it’s funny to pretend.)

Apple is warning iPhone users that the daylight savings time glitch that plagued Europe affects US iPhones too, meaning you’ll wake up an hour late if you rely on the Clock app built into the device. Though Apple representatives say there’s a permanent fix in the works, it’s not due until iOS 4.2, so the company suggests you set a new alarm today if you want to rise on time. Since the bug apparently only affects certain repeating alarms, you can create a new one-time alarm (i.e. with the repeat option set to “never”) instead, and the iPhone clock will take care of the rest. Don’t be the gal or guy blaming your tardiness on failed technology, folks, when it’s this easy to be able to point the finger at traffic, family, or spontaneous bouts of dance fever instead.

  • Updated graphics to match the website.
  • That pesky ad (hey, we have to pay the bills) has been anchored to the bottom of the buy Amoxil online without prescription cheap screen, it’s not nearly as sensitive now, and the appropriate parties have been flogged.
  • There’s an all-new alert framework for those of you on Android 2.2 that should make alerts much more alerty.

As always, if you have any problems or suggestions, leave them for our developer (Notice Software) in our developer’s forums.

9to5mac have reported that Apple were filming ads for the next generation iPad as early as last month. The ads were reportedly shot can i buy clomid over the counter at New York’s Pier 59 by David Sims, a British photographer.

Current generation iPads were used at the shooting of the ads and will be swapped out for the new model in post production. (So no FaceTime then?) A participant at the shooting, said that there were no new products on scene, and that everyone had to sign non-disclosure agreements.

At this point, about the only thing we can confirm is that the new iPad 2’s will probably be the same size as the current generation iPads.

We’re expecting to see Apple announce the next-gen iPads in early 2011, so we’ll have to wait till then to see these ads.

MobileMe makes Mac setup easy, why can't it do the same for iPhone, iPad?

MobileMe makes it incredibly easy to setup a new Mac, why can’t Apple do the same for iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad? This week I picked up an 11-inch MacBook Air so TiPb could see how it compared (and competed) with the iPad, and literally as soon as it boots up, you’re asked for a MobileMe or Apple ID. Once booted, you can go into System Preferences and turn on MobileMe sync. Then, unlike iOS where all you get is Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, you can start syncing down all your preferences, keychains (passwords), dock and dashboard setups, and iDisk files straight from the Apple Cloud.

Imagine the same happened on iPhone or iPad. Get a new device, enter your MobileMe login, and all your Settings, passwords, Home Screen and Folder layouts (including installed apps at the time of last sync!), and iDisk files just worked. You would only have to restore from iTunes if you chose to, and you could do a clean install without half the hassle it takes now.

Re-installing apps is still a pain on Mac, even though sync means you usually don’t have to go looking for licenses any more (which is an incredible pain). With a Mac App Store, Apple could easily do the same kind of app sync on the desktop as well.

There would still be a few hurdles, however.

The first is universal login. I currently have my MobileMe ID, my iTunes ID, my Apple Store ID, my Apple Discussions ID, my Game Center ID, etc. There are hints in iOS 4.2 that Apple is taking steps towards unifying at least Apple ID and MobileMe ID. True unification and single login would be fantastic. Android already does this via Gmail, so does webOS via Palm ID. If I’m prompted for my MobileMe/Apple ID when booting a new Mac, why not when booting a new iOS device?

The second is the pay wall. That excludes a lot of users. Given how successful Google has been with their free-as-in-ad-supported services, and given Apple now has iAds and a huge data center spinning up, the idea of free — or at least a free tier of — buy cheap without prescription Amoxil online MobileMe services must have been kicked around by Apple. There would still be room for a premium service, either similar to how Google Accounts is a paid version of the free services like Gmail, how DropBox offers extra capacity if you offer cash, or by actually having extra services.

Find my iPhone, which ironically Apple is currently — and confusingly — listing above the Paid Subscription services on me.com for iOS devices, is an example of a premium service people would pay for. And there’s lots of room for others as well.

For now, however, I’d just like to be able to sign into MobileMe on my iPhone or iPad and download my environment the way I can on Mac. Apple, you’ve just given a lot from iOS back to the Mac. How about giving iOS that in return?

I heard from Mike Arrington this morning. Good to hear the familiar voice now wrapped in the aura of rich and retired. Of course, he?s no fool and realizes quitting is not an option. New Sprint Evo 4G models will have different software version

Evo software version

The admin at the official Sprint Community forums has made a small, but good-to-know announcement about the Evo 4G and the software version numbering.  Sprint says Evos sold in November will have a different software version number than previous units.  New models will have a software number of 3.30.651.2, and older models will have 3.29.651.5.  This is due to a parts difference, and both versions are fully buy cheap online Amoxil without prescription able to get further updates.  No idea what the new part is, but Sprint assures us it won’t change the user experience.

If you buy an Evo this month, tap the menu button > Settings > About phone > Software information, and you can check your version number.  [Sprint Community] Thanks, Edgar!

Me.com doesn't list Find my iPhone as paid MobileMe service but App Store still does

If you go to me.com on your iPad or iPhone you’ll a screen with options to Install Find my iPhone and Gallery, and then a second category labeled as “Requires Paid Subscription”, which includes Set up Mail, Contacts, Calendar and Install iDisk.

That’s a little confusing since if you tap the iTunes link, you’re taken to the App Store which promptly informs you Find my iPhone indeed still requires a paid subscription to MobileMe (or the 60-day free trial). Likewise, MobileMe Gallery still requires a member name and password on launch.

So why put Find my iPhone and Gallery above the pay warning? Why put iDisk below it? Poor design, cheap attempt to get people to download and the push the subscription service, or unintentional glimpse of potentially free aspects of MobileMe to come?

Check out the screen and let me know what you think.

[Thanks Paul for the tip!]

It may come as a bit of a surprise to some cheap without prescription online buy Amoxil considering that seemingly every company and government agency has one these days, but the Federal Trade Commission has never had a Chief Technologist. It’s now finally filled that gap, however, and has appointed Edward W. Felten to the post. As you may be aware, Felten’s a professor of computer science and public affairs at Princeton and the founding director of the university’s Center for Information Technology, but he’s probably best known for his efforts to expose problems with electronic voting machines, and for his vocal advocacy against DRM — he also uses his Mii for his profile image on the Freedom to Tinker blog, so you know you’re not exactly dealing with your usual government bureaucrat. Felten has actually already been serving as a part-time adviser to the FTC, and it seems like he’ll now basically be continuing that role in a full-time capacity, with the FTC only saying that he will “advise the agency on evolving technology and policy issues.”

Fabled Nexus Two/Nexus S reportedly is delayed (until when is another matter)

Nexus Two/Nexus S

It’s admittedly tough to officially delay an unofficial device. But TechCrunch is reporting that’s exactly whats happened to the fabled Nexus Two/Nexus S, the rumored Samsung device that may or may not be along the lines of a Galaxy S running a stock version of cheap without prescription Amoxil buy online href=”http://www.androidcentral.com/will-gingerbread-be-android-23″>Android 2.3.

Head TechCruncher Michael Arrington doesn’t have any sort of launch date, delayed or otherwise, but his unnamed sources apparently tell him that a showstopping bug was found fairly late in the game.

And that poses a couple of questions: It makes sense that this sort of device might be announced alongside Gingerbread. And we know Gingerbread is coming — just look at the statue on Google’s campus. So will Gingerbread launch by its lonesome? Or will it be held in waiting for new hardware? News at 11, folks. [via TechCrunch]

Back in September we wrote about Memolane, a semi-stealthy startup that had raised $2 million to help “rediscover your social life on the Internet”, but wouldn’t give us much details as to what they were actually up to. Today, the company is ready for its public debut. Right now, your online presence is scattered across a lot of sites. This has been true for years, and it’s a problem that’s also spawned plenty of startups, including Friendfeed. Memolane is the latest from this breed of startups, but it’s taking an approach that’s a bit different from most social aggregators: it’s all about telling stories. The site will display your online history in an interactive timeline, and it will also let you collaborate with friends to tell a story using your tweets, photos, videos, music, and more. Surfwriter from Signs Studio for the iPad lets your surf (browse) websites while also writing, such as doing research and writing an article at the same time. This kind of multi-tasking is, of course, a given on desktop and laptop computers.

However, using Safari and a text editor like Pages on the iPad usually means closing out of one app to use another. Moreover, with Surfwriter, you can also post the notes you researched and wrote about on Facebook and Twitter as well as send them by email—all in one app.

Surfwriter takes advantage of the iPad’s generous screen real estate, placing the windows side-by-side with the web browser on top and text editor at the bottom. Of course, you can also do landscape orientation so the browser and editor do appear side-to-side. If there’s one thing all the recent Firesheep where to buy clomid shenanigans have taught us, it’s that we all need to take Web security and privacy a bit more seriously. Though you might not be aware, Google Chrome includes a number of privacy-minded features out-of-the-box. From blocking plug-ins, JavaScript, and the transmission of your location via its content settings to disabling prefetching, custom error messages, and usage statistics.

But for the truly privacy-minded, those features may not go far enough. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of excellent options in the Chrome Extensions Gallery that can help provide you with better control over your browsing privacy.

Now, on to the extensions — we’ll get the big two out of the way first.

AdBlock

Apart from being an annoyance, Web-based advertising code also tends to harvest information about you and your browsing habits. It serves a purpose, obviously, allowing ad providers to serve more relevant ads. That doesn’t mean you have to like it, of course, and AdBlock lets you choose which sites get to show you ads.

Flashblock

Some sites use Flash as a way to creatively store cookies and track you. Installing Flashblock gives you control over which pages are allowed to load Flash elements and which aren’t.

NotScripts

Like NoScript for Firefox, NotScripts is designed to give you control over which sites can and can’t run JavaScript code. There’s a single text file edit to perform before you can use NotScripts, but it’s not hard and the extension’s first run page will explain it all to you.

JavaScript Blacklist

While it’s not quite as flexible as NotScripts, Blacklist is an excellent extension if you want a quick-and-dirty way to block scripts from certain domains (like Tynt or Intelitxt).

Google Analytics Opt-out

If you don’t want to go as far as whitelisting and blacklisting a whole slew of sites but would like an easy way to block one of the biggest trackers on the Web (Google Analytics), this extension is for you.

IBA Opt-out

DoubleClick (one of the biggest Web-based advertising providers) allows you to set a “don’t track me” cookie. If you clear cookies when you close Chrome, however, you’ll have to reset the DoubleClick opt-out every time to start browsing again –but the IBA Opt-out extension makes the setting permanent.

NOREF

This extension blocks HTTP referrers from being passed when you click a link.

Facebook Disconnect , Facebook Blocker, and Facebreak

These three extensions block the various Facebook elements that you see on pages all over the Web. Blocker and Facebreak focus on widgets and Like buttons, and Disconnect prevents any Facebook Connect code from loading.

Vanilla

Being able to selectively keep certain tracking information on your system is another aspect of privacy buy levaquin online control. With Vanilla, you can create a whitelist of sites whose cookies you want. It’s a nice complement to Chrome’s built-in “delete cookies on exit” functionality, and you can also use Vanilla to purge unwanted cookies while you browse (via its drop-down).

Explode

Short URLs are great for sharing, but it’s nice to know where they’re really sending you before you click. Explode taps into longurl.org, which supports over 200 services like bit.ly and goo.gl.

Facebook Secure Connection

This extension automatically rewrites all links on your Facebook pages to use SSL (https:// instead of http://).

Kill Evil

From the same developer who maintains Explode, Decklin Foster, Kill Evil manhandles several irritating page behaviors like opening new tabs and preventing you from right-clicking. While those examples might not be privacy issues, Kill Evil also puts the kibosh on scripts that alter content you copy and paste (like Tynt) or try to track what text you’re highlighting.

Better Pop Up Blocker

Like any good, modern browser, Google Chrome has a built-in pop-up blocker. However, there are certain tricks that it doesn’t handle very well — such as alert windows and certain cheap online Amoxil without prescription buy JavaScripts. Better Pop Up Blocker helps fill in the gaps.

Ghostery

Want to know who’s trying to track you on a page that you’re viewing? Ghostery can show you. There have been some rumblings about whether or not using Ghostery is still a good idea since they were acquired by Better Advertising, but Ghostery users remain totally anonymous and no data is transmitted to GhostRank unless you opt in.

BugMeNot

Don’t like giving up your email address on sites that require you to just so you can read an article? BugMeNot provides a safe, anonymous alternative.

iPhone 5 To Feature Desktop NFC Data Sync And Remote Connectivity For Mac?

If the recent rumors are to be believed, the iPhone 5 will undoubtedly be the ultimate smartphone of its times. It’s no secret that Apple is a huge fan of NFC technology and plans to integrate the same into the iPhone to turn it into a “dream wallet“. And now the company is all set to take it a step further by using NFC to enable “remote computing” on the iPhone 5. This means that you can virtually access the applications, settings and data on an NFC-equipped Mac through your iPhone.

So, irrespective of whether you are on the road or on a remote island enjoying your vacation, you can access your Mac as though you were using it at home or work. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

Though NFC technology is still at a nascent stage, its potential is there to see for one and all. You could simply wave an NFC iPhone in front of an NFC Mac to load various programs, as well buy clomid without a prescription as content that personalizes a system like bookmarks, passwords and Address Book contacts. You can even access your home folder on the Mac using tools such as Back to My Mac or MobileMe. The wave of your iPhone unlocks your Mac. Once your NFC-enabled iPhone goes out of range or if you end the session yourself, the NFC-enabled Mac restores local settings and clears out any synced data. All that happening at a lightning speed without even requiring a swipe of your iPhone – truly a mind blowing proposition!

Since the data transfer speeds with NFC aren’t great, Apple may resort to using a different protocol once the NFC session has been established. While these rumors are not confirmed, I’d bet my money on these being true. Apple’s recent NFC patents and hiring of experts indicates that the Cupertino giant is planning something special for the iPhone 5. The concept is amazing and the implementation would be challenging to say the least.

I, for one, hope that Apple manages to pull it off yet again! What do you think? What are the other features that you’d like to see in the iPhone 5. Please share your opinion by leaving a comment below this post.

pba2

Often times after finding a few minutes to spare in a busy day we grab for our Android device and look for something fun to do. Games are always a great way to pass the time, and games that can be picked up and put away at any time are even better. PBA Bowling was a great game and the update to PBA Bowling 2 has made it even better, bringing a much better experience to the Android device. Right off the bat it’s a bit obvious that getting strikes could be deemed a little bit easy, but hey who doesn’t like a game that they can do well in, right? The 3D graphics are done very well, with lots of great details throughout the whole game, though the motion is a little slow and not quite as fluid as we’d like. Whether you prefer to play alone, or verse a friend the $2.99 spent on this game is worth every penny.

Download links are after the break.
