Rumor: AT&T to announce the Motorola Olympus at CES

The unsourced rumor du jour is that Motorola and AT&T will be announcing the Motorola Olympus during CES next week. The long rumored 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor has been making its rounds on the web for the past few months now. And that’s basically it, not much is known about the device. Judging by the few leaked photos, the phone looks like it will sport a screen larger than 3.7 inches.

It’s also worth mentioning that this is the first time we’ll see Motorola bringing a high-end Android powered phone to another carrier outside of Verizon. Head into the Rumored Devices forum to see what others are chatting about. [via IntoMobile]

Update: We’ve independently heard that the Olympus definitely is in testing on AT&T, with a 4-inch screen with 480×854 resolution.

Just as the Securities and Exchange Commission is starting to take a closer look at the increasing amount of trading in private company stock, a new startup that’s been in stealth mode since August, 2009 is preparing to launch another way to trade private shares. The company cheap without prescription buy online Amoxil is Xpert Financial which, through its registered subsidiary, Xpert Securities, brings to the table a tacit stamp of approval from the SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), or at least approval to begin operations as an alternative trading system (ATS). Existing secondary markets for private shares such as SharesPost and SecondMarket do not have the same standing in the eyes of the SEC, although it is not clear how buy clomid online no prescription much that matters at this point. Xpert Financial will operate an electronic trading platform for private company shares. It is a registered broker-dealer with FINRA and it recently got approval from the SEC to run an alternative levofloxacin trading platform. As an ATS, Expert Financial cannot call itself an exchange, which is why it changed its name from Xchange.

Nike Training Club App Turns iPhone into Your Personal Trainer

cheap without prescription buy Amoxil online alt=”" width=”250″ height=”359″ />If getting back into shape is one of your top New Year resolutions for 2011, there’s good news for you. Nike has just released the ‘NikeWomen Training Club‘ free iOS app which works like a virtual personal trainer, anytime, anywhere. Though Nike targets only women members for the “Training Club”, I believe that the included fitness regime/workouts would be equally beneficial for men as well. The app has scores of individual exercises, group workouts and ranks pretty high on my list of top fitness training apps. Here’s why!

Users who’ve used the earlier version of this app on the iPhone will be mighty impressed with the new user interface and the wide range of workouts available in the updated version. There are several full-body workouts for 30 or 45 minutes and the app lets you bookmark your favorite workout as a quick-start. The app can be paused during a workout to see a demo of the current exercise. The app measures your time spent on each exercise and prompts you to switch to the next one as per the workout schedule.

The app provides a number of drills catering to strength, cardio, interval and core training. Each one of us has a different fitness level and varying stamina. The Training Club app takes this into account and lets users select an appropriate goal, fitness level and a list of suitable workouts. The one size fits all rule just doesn’t work for human fitness and I’m glad that Nike has kept this principle in mind while creating the Training Club application.

Nike Training Club not only teaches you how to improve your overall fitness, it encourages you to go that extra mile and unlocks exclusive reward content when you reach training milestones. While it’s still no match for having a personal trainer, the Nike Training Club app is just about as close it gets.

The app is a double treat for music lovers who want to get back into shape as it lets users set their workout to albums and playlists from their own music library. If you are a lazy bum who just doesn’t fancy going to the gym, the NikeWomen Training Club app is nothing short of a godsend for you.

As the story goes, Russia-based AFK Sistema’s subsidiary Sitronics (along with US’ Qualcomm and China’s ZTE) have developed the first smartphone to use GLONASS — specifically one with a 90nm GPS-GLONASS chip. It’s been called, in so many words, the “Russian answer to the iPhone 4″ by the Powers That Be, and without getting into key details like platform and specs, we know officially the phone is going on sale in Russian sometime in March for 10,990 rubles (about $360 in US).

For other details on the device, we seek more unofficial (and therefore not 100 percent confirmed) buy clomid online sources, like the notably well-connected Eldar Murtazin. According to him, we’re looking at the ZTE model A918, an analog of the A916 with Android 2.1, a 3.2-inch QVGA screen, FM radio, and 2 megapixel levaquin coupon camera — yeah, hardly an iPhone 4 competitor, if you ask us. That version is supposedly launching on MTS for 7,500 rubles ($246), meaning the GLONASS-equipped equivalent has a 3,490 ruble ($114) markup. And the March release? Apparently in limited quantities, with mass production not coming until second half of 2011. Unfortunately, we’re not sure this one’ll be making an appearance at CES for further inspection. Check out the video after the break for a cameo of the device featuring Putin, Russian billionaire (and head of AFK Sistema) Vladimir Yevtushenkov, and Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov.

Apple’s AirPlay might be getting all the attention lately but it’s hardly the first solution for wirelessly streaming media to the television. Far from it. In 2003, the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) formed with its first set of interoperable products cheap Amoxil without prescription buy online hitting the market in 2004. Since then, the alliance has certified thousands of products supported by more than 245 member companies, 29 of whom are listed as “promoter members” including such heavyweights as Sony, Nokia, Samsung, Toshiba, Verizon, AT&T Lab, LG, Qualcomm, Cisco, Microsoft, Panasonic, Intel, HP, and Motorola. Pretty much everyone but Apple. Recently, HTC joined the DLNA ranks with the introduction of two smartphones — the Desire Z and Desire HD — and a tiny media streamer known as the HTC Media Link, HTC’s first attempt to gain a foothold in the living room. Over the last week we’ve been testing the Desire Z (a Eurofied T-Mobile G2) with the Media Link, lazily streaming video, music, and images around the house using a myriad of sources and controllers from Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, and Western Digital. AdBlock Plus

Adblock is already available for Chrome, and is working very well for us so far. But now Adblock Plus, of Firefox fame, may be joining making the jump to Google’s browser platform.

AdBlock Plus’ developer, cheap clomid online Without Prescription Wladimir Palant, has had lots of time to convert the extension; after all, Chrome isn’t exactly new. But so far, Palant has been reluctant to do the porting, due to the amount of work required and Chrome’s limited blocking capabilities. Times have changed however, as according to TechCrunch, Adblock Plus is on its way. It won’t be a complete re-write apparently, but based on an existing extension called AdThwart.

From an end user’s point of view, having Adblock Plus for Chrome might not make a huge difference. After all, the existing options for Chrome do get the job done. But when you step back and look at the big picture, this is one more indication of the rapid rise of Chrome as a browser platform, and now, an OS.

Mozilla logoOn December 17, a partial database of addons.mozilla.org (AMO) user accounts was found on side effects of levaquin a public Mozilla server. Mozilla was quickly notified by a security researcher via the Bug Bounty program, and the database was quickly removed. Don’t panic, though: you should be OK.

The file only contained inactive user accounts that were encrypted using older, no-longer-secure MD5 password hashes. All current AMO accounts are encrypted much more securely, and those accounts remain uncompromised. Mozilla is also fairly certain that they can account for every download of the database file, so there is likely little or no risk to the users involved — but just in case, if you use your AMO password on other sites, you may want to change it. Incidentally, if you were one of the 44,000 people on the list, Mozilla should have sent you an email detailing the breach.

As always, it’s vital that you use different passwords for every service you use; that way, if one database is breached, you are still relatively safe. KeePass is excellent, as is LastPass.

There’s a little more information on the Sophos Naked Security blog, but really, there isn’t much else to it. We’re now left to wonder how a database of names and passwords was left on a public server…

1 (billion) upAdobe, the software giant behind the monstrously-successful Creative Suite, Reader and Flash, has just racked up its first billion-dollar quarter. Up from $757 million in the same period last year, this represents a 33% year-over-year revenue growth, which is pretty damn massive. Over the entire year, Adobe enjoyed a total revenue of $3.8 billion, up from $2.9 billion in 2009.

With all of the negative press over Flash, people often fail to realize just how big Adobe is. If you take a quick look at the Forbes 2010 list of the world’s largest software companies, Adobe would place just outside the top 10, with revenues just behind Yahoo! and CA Technologies. This year’s excellent performance, whether you like it or not, is almost certainly because of Flash’s continued dominance — and the excellent Creative Suite 5, of course!

If you own a flat screen TV, a hybrid, a PC, or any number of cell phones, chances are you own a small but very sought after piece of China. The country accounts for 97 percent of the world’s rare earth production, which is used in all manner of gadgets, and it recently announced plans to scale back exports by 10 percent in 2011. The move probably won’t have a big impact on the average consumer, but it’s certainly gained a lot of attention on the world market: the US threatened action in the World Trade Organization, stocks for rare earth mining companies spiked significantly, and Sony Corp. vowed to decrease its dependence on the minerals. It’s actually not like the rest of the world is lacking for rare earth resources — American’s are actually sitting on 13 million metric tons of the stuff, which companies in the US and Canada are making a mad dash to mine. Trouble is, just getting the stuff out of the ground isn’t enough — China still has a monopoly cheap buy Amoxil without prescription online on rare earth processing, and US companies are reluctant to spend the eight years and minimum $500 million necessary to construct a chemical separation plant. So what does all this mean for you? Well, not a whole lot, unless you happen to be China’s Minister of Commerce, in which case you should probably stop surfing the web and get back to work.

Thanks to an eager (and extremely active) developer community, early access to upcoming Android bits has become somewhat of a regular occurrence. Recently we’ve seen the Gingerbread launcher and updated Market app, and now a user at xda-developers has released an early version of what will become the next Music app for Android.

It’s still a bit rough around the edges, but it looks like it’s going to be a very nice upgrade to the built-in player. Check out the gallery, or the video after the break, or grab the .APK installer over at the xda-developers forums. As always, caveat emptor!

Angry Birds creator, Peter Vesterbacka, in a recent interview had some fairly positive things to say about Apple and the opportunities they have created for developers with the iPhone and iOS platform. He also gives a short explanation for the price tag for the iOS version versus the free Android version.

Apple will be the number one platform for a long time from a developer perspective, they have gotten so many things right. And they know what they are doing and they call the shots. Android is growing, but it’s also growing complexity at the same time. Device fragmentation not the issue, but rather the fragmentation of the ecosystem. So many different shops, so many different models. The carriers messing with the experience again. Open but not really open, a very Google centric ecosystem. And paid content just doesn’t work on Android.

Vesterbacka was also asked about the ever so famous fragmentation issue that Apple CEO Steve Jobs mentioned during Apples Q3 2010 earnings conference call.

Fragmentation on the device side is not a huge problem, but Steve is absolutely right when he says that there are more challenges for developers when working with Android. But that’s fine, developers will figure out how to work any given ecosystem and as long as it doesn’t cause physical pain, it’s ok;-) Nobody else will be able to build what Apple has built, there just isn’t that kind of market power out there.

That doesn’t mean that model is superior, it’s just important to understand that Apple is Apple and Google is Google. Different. And developers need to understand that. Different business models for different ecosystems. And wouldn’t forget about Nokia and MeeGo either, new leadership always tends to shake things up and create opportunity. And HP-Palm. And RIM. And even Microsoft. It’s a fragmented world.

Do you have a preference for ad-supported vs. paid apps? Do you think Vesterbacka is right and certain platforms demand certain business models, or should you be able to choose free-with-ads or paid on all platforms?

2 Great iPhone Apps to Track Your Expense: Expenditure and CashTrails

After years of resisting a most obvious need, I have finally decided to start thinking seriously about setting can you buy clomid without a prescription a budget, and you know, try to figure out where my money goes. Of course there are no shortages of options out there for doing this, whether you use a simple pocket notebook, or lead a personal accountant around with you all day, or try to find an app for this on the iPhone. I have been searching for the latter for some time now and just stumbled across what I feel are two pretty decent offerings among the many.

Expenditure

Expenditure, produced by mobile platform app developers Shape, is a simple no frills expense tracker which has some handy features. I figure if I’m going to budget myself I better keep track of everything, every little…expenditure(hehe, sorry); I have my phone with me all the time so it’s the perfect place to do it. Open up Expenditure and you’re ready to enter how much your checking account just bled in the blink of an eye. Doing it immediately is a great habit to fall into, plus you could potentially cut down on all those receipts you always carry around.

Expenditure for iPhoneExpenditure for iPhone

There’s a built in guide which is kind of on the lite side, but the app is really incredibly easy to figure out, you probably won’t even need it. As do many budget apps, Expenditure works with multiple currencies, but unlike its competitor in this review, doesn’t offer currency conversion. You can create any number of tags for your expense/income entries which, of course, can help you to find out exactly where your money goes each day, and you can attach a pic and/or notes to your entries. The pictures are a nice touch for when you need to remind yourself exactly why you’re going to be eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on cheap white bread for the next four weeks; there’s nothing like buyer’s remorse to kill an appetite. Although there’s no immediately obvious way to track mutliple accounts in Expenditure, you can set up Groups which would serve just as well distinguishing between your main checking account and your savings, or even to keep track how much that first date is costing you, although levaquin abdominal pain I’m not sure how much that would impress your date, whipping out your iPhone to input those bills at every turn. But then, hey, if you don’t want a second date then that may be the way to go, who knows?

One thing I really like about Expenditure is the opening screen. When the app opens you see the balance of your main account, or group, and a listing of sortable entries. You can switch between seeing your expenses as most recent, or the categories(tags) in which you’re spending the most. It’s not pretty or anything but it’s quick and easy to use and basically all you need to keep track of your cash flow.

CashTrails – Income and Expense Tracker

For comparison I’ve also been playing around with CashTrails – Income and Expense Tracker by developer Vasyl Smyrnov. Both of these apps are very similar and mostly have the same functionality, but there are a few differences worth mentioning. CashTrails also deals with multiple currencies, but as mentioned earlier, this app also keeps you up-to-date on current exchange rates. CashTrails let’s you track your  budget with six different accounts such as checking, savings, two different credit cards, and cash. It would appear as this default number of accounts is all you can have; it would be nice if CashTtrails utilized user made groups as Expenditures does, but these categories will probably serve most people just fine.

Cashtrails for iPhoneCashtrails for iPhone

Entries are made quickly and painlessly just as in Expenditures, although CashTrails has no option for attaching pics to the entries. This is a minor thing though, in my opinion, as I really prefer the way CashTrails presents your budget breakdown. You can bring up reports of incomes and expenses in almost any time frame you need, from one day to the past year, and the app gives you multiple options as to how you want to see your information using either a standard timeline format, or a nice bar graph breakdown and more. CashTrails tagging function seems to me to be much more useful than that of Expenditures, but we might chalk that up to personal preference. I just get feel I get a better, more thorough sense of my cash flow with CashTrails and in trying both of these apps out, I have found myself leaning more and more heavily on it.

Both apps are great and could definitely help you get a handle on your daily finances. In the end it might just come down to price. Expenditures is $1,99 at the App Store, while CashTrails is a hefty $4.99. Is the difference in price worth it? I think so, yes, although I can’t exactly put my finger on what CashTrails offers over Expenditures to warrent paying a few more dollars; I believe it’s just in the presentation of the data, CashTrails simply gives me the impression of having more information at my fingertips. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending either app, but my money’s on CashTrails.

The famed Ben Heckendorn concocted the first Wii Laptop of note way back can you buy clomid over the counter in 2007, but ever since, the modding community at large has been toiling away on ways to improve it. ShockSlayer, a member over at Mod Retro, has accomplished just that, with his predictably titled Wii Laptop relying on a 7-inch LCD, an integrated sensor bar, a couple of polycases and inbuilt speakers. There’s hardly anything here that couldn’t be found at your local Radio Shack, save for the SunDriver — that particular product has enabled him to ditch the DVD drive and install a SATA HDD within. From there, he burned his Wii game discs and loaded ‘em all inside, making the whole thing extra mobile. Oh, and did we mention that it’s powered by rechargeable batteries? Because it is. Marvel at the completed device in the video after the break.

Christmas lights as IM indicators

Apparently, even domestic Christmas lights are controlled by computers nowadays, and hopefully, as you all know, that means they’re hackable. Andrej Kyselica, a Microsoft employee, took some GE-35 Christmas lights, hooked them into a .NET Micro Framework embedded controller, took another developer’s work, developed a driver — and voila! PC-controlled Christmas lights (video after the break).

In the demo, Andrej uses Microsoft Lync buy clomid pills (Office Communications Server) to connect his instant messenger contacts (presumably Live Messenger) to the Christmas lights. The lights then show each contact’s current status — green, yellow and red — or he can manually set them as ‘out of the office’, which is a rather pretty purple color. If the light is off, nobody is home.

While this is a cool hack, it pales in comparison to another computer-controlled Christmas lights experiment, which has been going since 2002: Alek’s Controllable Christmas Lights. Alek lets you control over 21,000 lights, and inflate or deflate Elmo, Santa and Homer Simpson.

iPhone bugs: blank email

If you go to check your email in the iPhone’s Mail app only to see a blank — either literally a blank space between messages or a place-holder that says (No Sender) (No Subject) — you may have this bug. If you do we’ll tell you how to work around it, after the break.

I experienced the blank email issue frequently under iOS 4.1, as does Andrew, but I haven’t seen it (yet) under iOS 4.2. Ally has seen it over multiple iOS versions. (Ironically Ally captured this screenshot when she got a blank during an email exchange about blanks!) Whenever or wherever you have this problem, the only solution we’ve found so far is to restart the Mail app:

  • Click the Home Button to exit Mail
  • Double click the Home Button to open the Fast App Switcher
  • Hold your finger down on Mail to put it into jiggly mode
  • Tap the X at the top right of Mail to kill the app

Mail will auto-restart so you won’t miss any messages, but when you go back in your blank(s) should be gone.

Let us know if you’re experiencing this bug and, if so, whether or not this workaround works for you!

What do you get if you take an iPhone, a mini fridge, some compressed air and a clever guy to mash it all together? A beer firing, iPhone controlled mini fridge, that’s what. Personalbeerrobot has posted a YouTube video showing this crazily brilliant invention in action. The fridge is controlled via a web app on the iPhone and it allows you to control the temperature that you are storing the beer at as well as select between four different brands.

Once the beer has been selected, you then switch to the canon cam, this is a video camera which shows you where the fridge will shoot the beer can to. You can aim using the iPhone screen, hit fire and then hopefully catch the flying beer. So there you go, instant beer delivery to your favorite armchair without you moving a muscle, perfect. The system even has the facility to submit a video of your beer can flying hopefully into your hands directly to twitter.

Personalbeerrobot is already working on some updates, like crosshairs to show more clearly where the beer will land along with a timer function. You can follow his progress @MyBeerRobot.

So if and when these go into production, whose first in line for one?

Only four more days of 2010; four more days till we get to 2011. So what to expect in the new year? What do we most hope for and fear where to buy clomid online about 2011? For TechCrunch co-editor Erick buy cheap without prescription online Amoxil Schonfeld, 2011 might be the year that touch becomes central to the computing experience. It may also be the year when both mobile and social ? John Doerr?s third wave – grows up to finally become the dominant sector of the tech industry. Could 2011 be 2000 all over again? Could we see a collapse of all the optimism now surrounding mobile and social? Were Fred Wilson’s warnings about tech?s current irrational exuberance correct? Not according to Schonfeld who, while acknowledging that there are too many me-too companies, believes that the established players driving the current boom ? Tribler channel

In a research lab at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, a lucky bunch of professors are working on the only tax-funded BitTorrent client in existence: Tribler.

Tribler, if you’re used to uTorrent, doesn’t look like anything where can i buy clomid online special — but a brief glance reveals a ‘Search’ bar at the top of the program, which lets you search the swarm for torrents, rather than having to hit an external index like The Pirate Bay. It is this functionality — this disassociation from any external source — that makes Tribler the first truly decentralized BitTorrent client. Honestly, I don’t understand the actual technology at play here. I’m not sure how a bunch levaquin lawsuit of Tribler clients can discover each other without a central server, but who am I to argue with TorrentFreak?

Even without the decentralization, Tribler has some neat features. It’s the first client with real ‘spam control’: users can up- and down-vote ‘channels’ of torrents, making sure the useless crud sinks to the bottom. The Download Squad favorite VLC is also included in the Tribler package, meaning you can watch or listen to torrents as they download. Check the Tribler wiki for more info.

Of course, Tribler is open source and free to download. It’s even cross-platform, with Windows, Mac and Linux clients available.

If you haven’t played with Chrome OS yet, it has one fundamental niggle that harkens back to the DOS days of yore: windows don’t exist, and it has no way of displaying multiple tabs on screen at the same time. This means if you want to refer to a document while you compose an email, you need to repetitively switch between tabs — and I think we can all agree that tab-switching is one of the most important omissions from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Chrome OS does support one way of displaying multiple Web pages at the same time, however: panels. If you’ve looked through our Chromium levaquin contraindications OS galleries (or taken a quick look at the screenshot above) you’ll notice some always-on-top panels across the bottom of the screen. Panels are handy things — capable of being resized, or quickly popped down out of view. By default, the download manager, popped-out Gmail chat windows and the media player display in panels — but, for some reason, there’s no way to load custom websites in panels.

Which brings us onto our very first Chrome OS-specific extension: Panelize. With Panelize you can put anything into a panel, such as Gmail, Reader, or even Download Squad. In one fell swoop, having to switch between tabs is a thing of the past!

Retro gamers, take note — The Legend of Zelda is back, and this version’s more intriguing than ever. From the pits of a mythical, magical unknown lair has arisen an early build of the original FDS version of Zelda, and thanks to the wonders of the internet (along with a few dedicated Earthlings), we’re able to break down the differences between the prototype and the retail edition, download the FDS image and pore over the disk scans. From what we’ve been able to gather thus far, the early version is quite a bit easier to beat than the final build, with fewer enemies, easier money and more gullible partners. Sounds like our kind of place. Hit the links below to nerd out in fantastic fashion.

That display isn’t capable of doing your 1080p files justice, but the PMP itself is, and with HDMI output it can send that footage to an external panel. There’s also WiFi, a T-DMB tuner, Bluetooth, and even an accelerometer. Icon Renamer from Ryan Petrich

Jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich has released a great new extension, named Icon Renamer, for changing the names of 3rd party apps on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It has similar functionality to jailbreak tweaks like Rename but executes in a much more efficient and straight-forward way.

All you need to do after installing the extension is tap and hold any app icon until you get into wiggle-mode, then tap the icon again to rename the app. There’s no need to reboot or respring your device in order to see the changes — they are instantaneous.

This extension is very useful if you have apps with longer names, have an app named as an acronym that you want to change or if you just want to rename an app to your liking. A perfect example is if you use Five-Column Springboard and have a lot of apps with longer names that are situated near each other. With Icon Renamer you can edit apps with longer names so they don’t overlap.

Icon Renamer is a free jailbreak extension and is available in Cydia now. Amoxil buy cheap without prescription online Let us know what you think of this tweak in the comments below!

about.me

About.me is a direct competitor of Flavors.me; both services try to help you create a personal landing page, hooked up to your “social media presence” on other sites (Facebook, Flickr, et al).

About.me left public beta a few days ago, and I decided to give it the video treatment today. I’ve put together an extensive review covering most of its features from a first-time user perspective. It’s meant to be simple to use, and in the video you can see how friendly it is to non-techies. It basically allows you to create a beautiful page for yourself without writing a single line of code, and get a whole bunch of analytics while you’re at it. Check out the video review after the jump!

At the end of the video you can see that Flickr integration did not work for me; that’s not About.me’s fault – it’s because of my Flickr sharing configuration.

[Full Disclosure: About.me was purchased by Download Squad's parent company, AOL, shortly after Erez recorded his review. -- ed.]

According to unnamed sources in Taiwan there will be 3 different versions of the iPad 2 from Apple when it gets released in 2011, including the current Wi-Fi and UMTS 3G models, as well as a CDMA model for use with carriers like Verizon. From DigiTimes:

Apple is expected to release three versions of iPad 2, supporting either or a combination of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA, for 2011 with mass production to start as early as the later half of January.

According to the rumor, Apple will begin production of 500,000 to 530,000 units during the 2nd half of January, and is expected to produce a ratio of 3:4:3 (Wi-Fi, UMTS, CDMA respectively) as it appears that 60-65% of current iPad shipments have been 3G models.

In addition to added wireless functionality, it looks like the iPad 2 might get a few other minor upgrades including better smudge-resistant screens with an anti-reflective treatment. This should help the iPad 2 better compete with eBook readers like the Amazon Kindle.

Although these are just rumors for now, it would be pretty great to see a Verizon iPad 2 released in 2011 next to a Verizon iPhone, don’t you think? Sound off in the comments below!

Over the weekend a former RIM employee stated that when Apple unveiled the first iphone at Macworld 2007, RIM had several buy clomid online without a prescription emergency meetings which culminated with the BlackBerry maker deciding Apple was lying — the iPhone wasn’t possible. In RIM’s opinion a phone with all of the 2007 iPhone’s functionality and large touchscreen could not be used without being near a power supply at all times. Shacknews poster, Kentor, heard from his former colleagues:

The iPhone couldn’t do what [Apple was] demonstrating without an insanely power hungry processor, it must have terrible battery life. Imagine their surprise [at RIM] when they disassembled an iPhone for the first time and found that the phone was battery with a tiny logic board strapped to it.

RIM’s “Apple Killer”, released as the BlackBerry Storm in 2008, was their response, but it wasn’t until 2010’s Torch that they began to close the multitouch and web browser gap. 2011 will see the introduction of their next generation platform, the QNX-powered BlackBerry Playbook, though in tablet form, not smartphone.

Could RIM, Microsoft, and Palm really have been in denial about the iPhone in 2007? Could Apple be in denial about any competitors today?

Freemake’s buy clomid no prescription free Video Converter was already a very solid app, handling more than 200 import formats and able to output converted videos for playback on a wide array of devices. In the recently-released version 2.0, however, one major piece of missing functionality has been added.

Freemake 2 now supports Blu-Ray burning, allowing you to output dozens of hours of downloaded video to a single disc. If you don’t have a Blu-Ray burner, no worries — Freemake claims their media conversion kung-fu lets them cram 20 hours onto a single-layer DVD.

The upgrade doesn’t stop there, however. Freemake 2 also adds the ability to download and convert videos directly from popular sharing sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Metacafe. Beyond sharing sites, Freemake can also grab video from Hulu, South Park Studios, The Daily Show, Megavideo, and several others — including a good number of sites in the red light district. There’s also a more full-featured preset editor, giving you advanced control over your default conversion settings.

The .Net 4.0 framework is required, but Freemake will install it for you if it’s not already on your system.

WebGL Quake

Okay, so we’re not quite at the point where you’re going to be playing the next Crysis sequel in your browser, but still — the arrival of WebGL in Chrome’s beta channel is kind of a big deal. Apart from being able to play around with cool demos like the ones offered up by Google in its official announcement, WebGL is another important step in bringing more desktop-like functionality to the Web.

In addition to cloud-y 3D support, hardware acceleration support is due to arrive at some point — presumably before Chrome 9 gets pushed to the stable channel. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen, but we’ll know soon enough thanks to the six-week release cycle.

Check your Chrome wrench icon for the update notification, or hit About Google Chrome to force a check.

Dell’s still calling this a Mobile Internet Device, but you can call it by any of its codenames: Looking Glass, M02M, iPad eviscerator, they’re all in here. Yes, the FCC has spent a month of quality time with Dell’s still unofficial, but very much upcoming, tablet and has given the go-ahead for its integrated 3G (the listed UMTS bands II, IV and V indicate compatibility with both AT&T and T-Mobile), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 802.11n WiFi radios. Labeling for the attached (and apparently not removable) door on the back of the device indicates an SD card slot, which will sit right alongside a SIM card port. The latter will presumably be used mostly to funnel data into the Dell tablet, but voice calls aren’t completely out of the question either — there’s a (inactive) proximity sensor thrown in as well. Either way, Dell’s almost sure to launch this device, expected to feature a 7-inch screen and Tegra cheap Amoxil online buy without prescription 2 internals, at CES next week.

4 Tips to Develop Your Iconic iPhone Game

Angry Birds, Doddle Jump, Pocket God, Flight Control…. Is it just luck that made these games so successful or is there a pattern any developer can learn and apply? In this article I am going to go through the top 3 tips for making an iconic iPhone game.

Obviously, planning is everything. The planning process starts right before you open up X-Code. So before you dive into the coding make sure you have a solid idea. We will go into how to market your app and create hype in later posts.

Tip 1: Controls

Implement Elegant Controls That Apply to Your Game Intuitively
One thing in common for all these successful iPhone games is that they use the iPhone’s unique controls in an elegant fashion. Unlike the ports of big games like Avatar, individual developer don’t have the resource but still can compete Buy cheap clomid online no Prescription with these big companies by exploiting the iPhone’s controls. The reason why the Wii or the iPhone were so successful is that they revolutionized the way we interact with our devices. Hence why PlayStation Move and X-Box Kinect followed suit. The iPhone 4 has a touchscreen display, dual microphones, 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, digital compass, proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor. There is so much untapped potential to make use of.

Tip 2: 3D is so last decade

It’s Best to Make Your Game in 2D
Honestly, the 3D graphics on iOS devices are far from great. As most people have become accustomed to Playsation 3 graphics, theatrical CGI blockbusters, going back to crappy 3D graphics aren’t too pleasant. Hence why Flight Control, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope are all in simple 2D. I’m sure there’ll be a time when 3D looks gorgeous on an iPhone and when that happens, by all means make a 3D iPhone Game. That would be a perfect time to do so. But with the graphical power of the existing iPhone you don’t have much leverage and choice as you do with 2D-based games.

That said, Epic Games released a visually stunning demo of their Unreal Engine on the iOS platform. However we’re talking about multi-million dollar company here, plus it takes a lot of time to make this type of games. Is it worth to do so when you’re only hitting a niche market?

Tip #3: Flash Game

Turn a Flash Game Into an iPhone App
For those developers with some iPhone development experience, I think you’re going to find this tip useful. During the cheap Amoxil buy without prescription online planning stage, scout the web for old or current popular flash games. Get in contact with the flash game developer, and in case they haven’t read various blogs about how to make an iPhone app themselves, suggest to turn their flash-based game into an iPhone app. You can either negotiate a flat out fee. Or as a safer alternative for low budget flash game developers, you can suggest to take a cut of the app sales.

One more thing…

Bonus tip: The Brag Factor and the 99¢ Rule

Implement Social Media and Sell at a Dollar
The App store mostly consists of ‘mini games’ (I can’t find a better word to describe them). Commonly, iPhone users play the games while on public transport and before going to bed. So it makes sense why all these mini games are so successful. Another thing that made these games so successful is the implementation of social media. Let’s face it. ‘Mini games’ have been around for a while, but with the iPhone it brought this genre to another level. Before the era of Facebook or Twitter, it wasn’t so convenient to share your new high score with your friends when you won a game. By adding social feature to your game you’re allowed to do free advertising. When someone sees his/her friend gets 1000 points on a random game they’ve never heard of, they’re likely to check it out, and probably buy it.

Joey is the author of The iPhone App Development Blog, an upcoming blog inspiring and helping aspiring and current iOS developers make and sell there apps. Tips rooting in various fields such as simple psychology to gain an edge from making an app efficiently to marketing it.

Apple has just published a press release that confirms a January 6 opening of the Mac App Store. It will be available in 90 countries, and feature free and paid apps. Mac OS X Snow Leopard (time to upgrade from 10.5!) users will need a free download via Software Update before they can use the App Store.

The Mac App Store, if it isn’t obvious, aims to revolutionize the distribution of PC programs in much the same way as the iOS App Store. The idea is to provide Buy cheap clomid Without Prescription quick and easy access to the latest and greatest in Mac OS X apps, and will feature categories, staff picks, and customer reviews and ratings, just like the other App Store.

The only comparable service to the Mac App Store is Valve’s Steam, and it will be interesting to see whether Apple’s new offering nibbles away at Steam’s market cheap buy without prescription online Amoxil share. More importantly, it’s now only a matter of time until an equivalent marketplace emerges on the Windows platform; and indeed, could the fragmented Windows ecosystem even support an App Store?

Facebook, in a continuing drive to upgrade the most popular portion of its site, will roll out facial recognition auto-tagging of photos in the next few weeks — if you live in the US, anyway.

Now, when you upload photos, Facebook will compare the faces in the photos with the faces of your friends. If a match is found, you’ll be prompted with a suggested tag. If Facebook can’t identify a person, it will ask you to enter their name, which will presumably help with identification in the future. If you upload a batch of photos of the same person — say, from a wedding or birthday party — Facebook will group those photos together and suggest a tag, making tagging a one- or two-click affair.

With a shocking grasp of foresight, Facebook is going to let you opt out of the auto-tagging process, too! If you don’t want your face to be recognized in other people’s uploads, hop over to Privacy Settings > Customize Settings, and deselect “Suggest photos of me to friends.” [This option doesn't seem to be visible yet, but that could be because I'm in the UK -- or because the roll-out hasn't begun.]

There’s no mention of whether you’ll be able to auto-tag old photo albums, but I suspect it will be possible.

Facebook Photos, now with facial recognition auto-tagging originally appeared on Download Squad on Thu, 16 Dec 2010 09:00:00 EST. Please see our terms Buy cheap clomid online Without Prescription for use of feeds.

Are $100 Android handsets the future cheap buy online Amoxil without prescription of mobile?

Broadcomm BCM2157

About a week ago, Broadcomm announced their latest concoction — the BCM2157.  With this chip, manufacturers can add a shell, a screen, and some memory and have a pre-built Android phone.  Goodbye steep engineering costs, hello dual-core, low power, turnkey solutions.  The news is pretty exciting for geeky folks like we are (and be sure to check out the source links for the technical details), but what exactly does this mean for everyone else?  If you think like Seth Weintraub at CNNMoney.com, you reach the logical conclusion — Android is poised to take the entire feature phone / low-end smartphone market away from Nokia with an army of sub-hundred dollar handsets.  Not $100 after contract and rebates, but a hundred bucks out the door, with no strings attached.  This is what Google VP of Engineering and Android head honcho Andy Rubin has referred to as "a perfect storm".

The idea isn’t that far-fetched.  You can already pick up a pretty feature-rich handset for $180.00 — the Virgin Mobile branded Samsung Intercept.  Halve the cost of the internals, practically do away with the cost of designing a working system, and the magical $100 Android phone certainly sounds like it’s coming.  And while some of us will turn up our nose at another round of entry level devices, one particular group surely won’t — Android application developers.  When Android device sales creep up on the billion served mark, the Android Market will literally explode as software developers, both large and small, grab their slice of the pie.  I, for one, can’t wait.

Unlike the ports of big games like Avatar, individual developer don’t have the resource but still can compete with these big companies by exploiting the iPhone’s controls. Google, in association with a couple of boffins from Harvard University, has just released an awesome tool that should entertain you for at least 10 minutes, and possibly more. It lets you compare words, or phrases, from a corpus totaling 500 billion words from 5.2 million books — in Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish.

The potential applications for such a tool are surprisingly large; written works make up the entirety of recorded history, after all. That history might not be entirely accurate, but analysis can still yield some fantastic info. The Google Blog offers a couple of interesting graphs — Virus vs. Bacteria, which chronicles the massive improvements in science and medicine; and Tofu vs. Hot Dog shows both the growing popularity of vegetarianism, and America’s love of cow — but it’s very easy to make your own, telling graphs.

Analog vs. Digital, levaquin 750 for example, or America vs. England (compare American English to British English). If you find any interesting combos, leave a comment!

Send a call from Santa

Ho ho ho! I remember, when I was 8, Santa called my father’s mobile phone. He had a message for me, and it blew my mind. A few years later, my dad told me it was his best friend, and he had bought a new SIM card just so I couldn’t trace the number! Ah, the lengths adults buy without prescription online cheap Amoxil go to preserve the magic of Santa Claus.

Today, things just got a whole lot easier. If you want to create a personalized message for a (younger) special someone, there’s the Google Voice-powered Send A Personalized Call From Santa. More pics of the Dell Streak 7 emerge, appears aimed at T-Mobile USA

Dell Streak 7

UK coat of arms (government)Not one to let the hyperconservative Australian government walk away with the censorship crown, the UK government plans to make the surfing of Internet porn opt-in. Next month, Communications buy without prescription cheap Amoxil online levaquin information Minister Ed Vaizey will meet with major UK ISPs to discuss a blanket block of porn. Rather than porn being available to all, UK surfers will have to contact their ISP to be allowed on a ‘porn surfing whitelist.’

In customary political masquerading style, this is being pushed through as a “think of the kids!!” measure. It recently emerged that as many as one-in-three children under 10 in the UK has seen pornography on the Internet, and the government, spearheaded by Conservative MP Claire Perry, wants to protect those kids at all costs. The irony is, it’s not like 10-year-olds have their own computers and Internet connections — they are either viewing porn at home, at a friend’s house, or at school. If dad, or mom, opts into the porn whitelist, we’re back at square one.

Of course, the other option is that mom and dad swear off the porn altogether, for the sake of the children. But is that really a fair system? Isn’t that just censorship, dressed up as something else?

“Oh, yeah, we’re making alcohol opt-in too. Most children are abused by drunken parents… and you don’t want to abuse your kids, right?” While we’re at it, how about a special ID card that lets you buy pornographic magazines and DVDs from shops? Why should the Internet be treated differently?

Seriously, the reasoning behind this program is that porn is damaging to children. As in, on a mental health level, children are being scarred by the early viewing of porn. Why porn, instead of violent imagery? Is porn really more perverse than the face-planting, gonad-thumping masochism readily available on YouTube? Will video games be next, and will you have to carry them in brown paper bags?

Mozilla has released a new beta of Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo to keep the mobile browser in step with its desktop cousin, and it packs a number of important improvements. Perhaps the most noticeable one on Android is that you can now find Firefox in the Market, meaning future updates will be a smoother process — just make sure you uninstall any previous beta versions before downloading from the Market.

So what’s new in Firefox 4 beta 3?

  • Improved support for both software and hardware keyboards
  • Android-style menus
  • Better integration with other apps when opening a link
  • A save page-as-PDF option
  • Improved Firefox Sync with new ‘add a device’ feature
  • Full screen video and improved audio support
  • Copy and paste support in the URL bar
  • Developer access to a localStorage API and orientation events

After browsing for a while with beta 3, I’m definitely left feeling it’s faster than the previous non-Market release. Some pages, however, still load about 30-40% slower than they do in Dolphin Mini (my current browser of choice). The new features are definitely key additions — especially basics like keyboard support and copy/paste in the URL bar. Firefox Sync setup is an absolute breeze now, thanks to the ‘add a device’ option in both the desktop and mobile versions.

Firefox 4 is also a bit of a space hog, currently consuming about 21MB — ten times more than Dolphin Mini. And while I dig the desktop-to-mobile Firefox 4 synchronicity, I’m not sure it’s enough to make me switch just yet. If I start doing more mobile surfing (which would make Sync more useful to me) and Mozilla kicks up the speed and trims a little fat, Firefox 4 will definitely be a strong contender for the coveted default browser crown.

Check out the gallery, or if you want to jump right in, use the QR code after the break. For more information, release notes and troubleshooting tips, check the Firefox Beta for Mobile website.

tinyogg

It’s fairly easy to download YouTube videos, but they usually come in FLV or MP4 format when you grab them right off YouTube. TinyOgg is a lightweight service that lets you grab those same videos, or just the audio, in the open source Ogg format.

It couldn’t be simpler to use: you just feed it with a YouTube URL, and hit Convert. You then get a short URL; after a few minutes, this URL contains a link to an Ogg file you can download and watch at your leisure. By default, this link is made public and can be seen in the queue.

There’s also a more detailed form that lets you keep the link private (so it doesn’t show up in the public queue), download the file in the highest quality from YouTube (so the converter gets the best raw material to work with), and rip just the music, with no video content at all. That last one is somewhat dubious on the copyright side of things, but is very handy nonetheless.

Oh dear. Google TV isn’t having the best of starts to its life in the internet-connected TV world and Logitech seems to have taken notice. DigiTimes‘ nameless sources today report that Gigabyte, the company charged with building Revue units for Logi, has been instructed to stop production of them for the period covering December 2010 through January 2011. The restart in manufacturing will be conditional, we’re told, either on a significant update levaquin anxiety to the current Google TV software or a whole new version rolling out. The Revue is still available to buy through Logitech — shipments are only drying up in the channel between manufacturer and vendor — but if the insiders have their story straight, this’d be a clear indication that early sales expectations have not been met. Better luck next year, we say.

Logitech said to be halting Revue production until Google TV software revamp originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 24 Dec 2010 02:24:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Also, Android Police scored pricing info — looks like it’ll be $150 on contract and $549 outright. We’ll see soon enough.

There’s not much to go on here — just a picture of a small-screened device we’ve never seen before — but if that six-fingered squid is the real deal, there’s a brand-new Chumby on the way. Gizmodo says the T-shaped unit’s working codename is “Chumby Opus,” and we wonder if that might actually refer to song; If that grille on the left’s also duplicated on the right, perhaps we’ll get some stereo speakers this time around. Wouldn’t that be nice? Either way, it looks like black, slightly leaning flat-panel displays are still in style.

There seems to be no shortage of blockbuster games being launched on the Apple App Store this holiday season. Last week, Infinity Blade for iPhone shattered all previous sales records by levaquin class action lawsuit selling a whopping 274,000 copies in less than 5 days. And now, Tapulous (purchased by Disney earlier this year) has released Tap Tap Revenge 4 (TTR 4), the fourth generation of the longest-running, most-downloaded music gaming app on the iOS platform. With over 100 free tracks from popular artists including Lady Gaga, Linkin Park & My Chemical Romance and a number of bug fixes and performance improvements, it’s surely Christmas come early for all Tap Tap Revenge fans!

It’s worth noting that Tapulous witnessed 800,000 downloads last Christmas. The company is expecting to surpass a million downloads this year and going by the phenomenal response received so far, it looks to be on target for that milestone figure. Disney says that the game is currently witnessing around 35,000 downloads per hour, well ahead of what it saw on Christmas day last year. Tap Tap Revenge is one of the oldest games on the iOS platform and has enjoyed phenomenal popularity on the Apple App Store.

Like most other music tapping games, Tap Tap Revenge 4 works by letting users tap the screen in time to the music to score points. The USP of each version is the set of free tracks including various recent blockbuster titles. The updated version is compatible with the iPhone 4 Retina Display, integrates with Game Center (Facebook, Twitter and several others) and lets and your friends see each other’s “liked” tracks. There’s a new Arcade Mode featuring a new global leaderboard that shows the updated score in almost real-time.

Tap Tap Revenge 4 also represents an interesting cross-promotion experiment from Disney as it allows players to score points by playing Tron songs, while Tron promotes Tap Tap titles with in-game advertising. TTR 4 itself is a free download from the Apple App Store [iTunes link] and premium tracks can be purchased through the app itself.

NYT Web app

Truth be told, I’ve never been sold on the whole Web apps paradigm. They’re just websites! Very pretty websites, but ultimately… just websites. But it seems I was missing the point: while they’re websites to you and I, publishers and developers see them as something else entirely. They see Web apps as beautiful, standardized, cross-platform tools for dissemination of their content and, of course, monetization. It’s hard to sell a website, but a Web app on the other hand…

Take a look at the New York Times Web app, which I’ve just had the immense pleasure of playing around with. Notice how I gave you a Chrome Web Store link, but I could just as easily tell you to visit http://www.nytimes.com/chrome/# in Firefox 4 and it still works. Heck, it works in Firefox 3, too.

Don’t let the ‘oooh, Web app!!’ distract you from the real gems, though. The layout is nothing like the website, and that’s a good thing. Never has it been easier to switch between categories quickly — seriously, the Web app blows the website out of the water, as far as content discovery goes. Then, there’s the keyboard shortcuts, with the arrow keys allowing you to whisk through pages and stories with incredible ease.

Finally, and perhaps the best example of why Web apps are the wave of the future: visit the Web app’s URL on your iPad. The experience is better than the actual iPad app. Even swiping works! (There are some iPad screenshots in the gallery below, too.)

Anyway, the best way to get to grips with the New York Times Web app is to play around with it yourself. If you don’t have time, or if you’re afraid of missing the good bits, buy clomid online cheap have a look through our hands-on gallery below (again, make sure you view the images ‘full size’). My initial impressions are excellent — but the app is far from perfect. More analysis after the break.

TiPb.com Picks of the Week

Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game.

To see what we picked this week, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break!

Ally’s Pick – Doodle Jump Christmas

Who doesn’t like Doodle Jump? Lima Sky has been ever faithful about issuing updates for well over a year now. This time they did it a bit different and released Doodle Jump Christmas as a separate app. (Users of the original version still have a Christmas theme.) At first I was a bit skeptical to download the Christmas edition, but I’m glad I did. The graphics honestly are better and the new monsters are awesome! Hopefully this app will get updates for other holidays as well. I hadn’t played Doodle Jump in several months and the Christmas edition has got me hooked again. It’s also got GameCenter integration so you can try and out jump your friends as well. It’s a great addition to the ever growing holiday line-up of games. Between this and Angry Birds seasons, I’m less productive than ever!

Brian’s pick: Netflix

Netflix is my Christmas pick of the week even though it is not a Christmas app per say. However I am picking it due to it’s functionality for parents as the holiday season means a lot of travel typically. With the levaquin antibiotics Netflix app on your iOS device you can allow your kids or even your bored spouse to watch Christmas movies to get into the holiday spirit even more while traveling to or from friends and family. There are plenty of Christmas movies available to be viewed which will make travel that much easier and more pleasant!

George’s pick: Is It Christmas?

Do you or your kids keep waking up, thinking, “Is it Christmas Yet?” What hassle it must be to rummage through a calendar trying to work out what day it is.

Well, there’s buy clomid cheap online an app for that.

Is It Christmas? – Does exactly what it says in the tin. Its a very simple, amusing app that tells you if it is or isn’t Christmas.

The app boasts full Retina support and accelerometer support, as well as local push notifications, so you don’t even have to open the app to see if the day has come.

The app was recently updated to included an iPad version to tell “Is it Christmas?” so you can see if its Christmas in HD glory.

Its not the most productive app ever, but its funny for a laugh here and there.

Leanna’s pick: Angry Birds Seasons HD

Angry Birds Seasons for iPhone, iPad now in app store!

As a member of the addicted to Angry Birds club, I could not turn down Angry Birds Seasons HD. The “Seasons Greedings” level pack is like an advent calendar – each day unlocks a new level ending with Christmas Day. I love this because I can focus on achieving 3 stars every day without being tempted to move on to the next level. A new Angry Birds level was a great way to add some more cheer (as well as frustration) to my countdown to Christmas.

Rene’s pick: FaceTime

Apple didn’t invent the front-facing camera phone (I believe Nokia did, back in 1812 or somesuch) but with FaceTime they did what they always do — made a fringe technology mainstream. You pick up your iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, or go to your Mac, pick a contact, hit a button, and — boom! — you’re looking at friend or family member across town or around the world.

It’s no surprise Apple has spent half of the iPhone 4 commercials showing off FaceTime and hitting those emotional and nostalgic notes. These are Kodak moments made live and made motion. Grandparents and grandkids, fathers and mothers and sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends new and old, FaceTime brings them together and to life.

This year, if you have or just now get an iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, or Mac, turn on FaceTime, get on Wi-Fi, and call up someone you love. That’s what the holidays are all about.

Your pick?

You’re part of the team as well, so jump into the comments and let us know your Holiday pick of the week!
