Excel

This week’s series of tips will be focusing on handy little features for Microsoft Excel and Word. To see the previous tips, check our Tips index.

By default, Excel uses cell references in formulas, which results in formulas that look like D5/20 (Meaning, divide the contents of cell D5 by 20). This is fine as long as your formulas are very simple. If you start pulling in data from multiple cells and using many complex formulas in a single spreadsheet, however, it becomes increasingly difficult to remember what each cell address means.

That’s where named ranges come in handy. As the name implies, these are names you can give ranges of cells — but a range can also be a single cell! So rather than having a formula read D5/20, you could have it read CostOfLiving/20. “CostOfLiving” is actually a named range consisting of one single cell.

This all sounds quite complex, but once you name your first cell you’ll see how simple it is. To do this, simply:

  • Select the cell you wish to name.
  • Click the Name Box. This is the text box to the left of the formula bar – it should contain your cell’s current address (say, H12).
  • Type in whatever name you wish to use for this cell (say, “MonthlyExpenses”). It must not contain spaces.
  • That’s it! You can now use this name in all of your formulas instead of the cell’s address.

How to use names how to buy clomid without a prescription instead of cell addresses in Microsoft Excel originally appeared on Download Squad on Wed, 12 Jan 2011 13:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

HTC Inspire 4G interactive demo found online

If you’re in the mood to mess around with an online demo of a device you just simply cannot, as of yet have then you’re in luck. The HTC Inspire 4G is coming to AT&T at some point in time but Radio Shack has been busy getting its affairs in order readying for the launch. The interactive demo is now online for folks to mess play around with and learn more about the device. Although I’m sure Radio Shack would have preferred to keep it under wraps a little longer. But hey they’re not exactly known for keeping secrets very well as history dictates.

Go ahead play around with the demo. Just remember, drool is bad for your keyboard. If online demos are not your thing, have a look at levaquin dosing href=”http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-inspire-4g-att-hands-video”>our very own hands on with the HTC Inspire 4G. [PocketNow via Phandroid]

The HTC Thunderbolt may have been officially announced way back at CES, but there’s still quite a bit we don’t know about the phone — namely, a price or a release date. We now at least have what looks to be a fairly solid hint of the latter, however, courtesy of the above shot of a Best Buy inventory screen that lists an in stock date of February 14th. You’ll note that the screen doesn’t actually mention the HTC Thunderbolt anywhere, but some sleuthing by the folks at Android Central reveals that the product code matches one found on a Thunderbolt box that turned up in a recent hands-on video. Joining that rumor is a separate one from Droid Life, which has obtained some supposedly authentic Verizon materials that suggest the Thunderbolt won’t be shipping with mobile hotspot functionality enabled at launch, and that Skype video chat won’t be enabled initially either. No word on a reason for the delay (if there actually is one), but both features will seemingly be enabled at some point, and there will apparently be a placeholder icon in the case of Skype that will display a “coming soon” message if it’s launched.

HTC Thunderbolt rumored to be hitting Best Buy February 14th, sans mobile hotspot or Skype video? originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 30 Jan 2011 23:22:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Google made a minor levaquin anxiety tweak to the Gmail navigation links recently — moving Photos into a more prominent spot and Reader into the More drop-down. But as is usually the case, enthusiasts who don’t want to accept changes on their favorite Web sites buy without prescription Amoxil online cheap have already responded. Geohot vs Sony: what it means for the iPhone and iPad Jailbreak community

For those who haven’t been following it, iPhone Jailbreaker George Hotz (Geohot) is being sued by Sony for hacking their PS3. It’s not new for companies to take action against hackers. Every time Apple updates iOS they try to close Jailbreak exploits and they even lobbied the US government to try and make sure Jailbreaking wasn’t granted a DMCA exception (Apple didn’t get their way and jailbreaking was given an exception.

While Apple went after the entire process and asked it be ruled illegal, Sony is going after one person in particular, George Hotz. After recently releasing his 3.55 jailbreak for Playstation 3 users, Sony rewarded his efforts by applying for a TRO (temporary restraining order), which was recently granted. As they continue to go back and forth, Geohot has issued a statement to Sony on his own webpage.

Note to Sony:

It’s apparent you don’t care about your reputation with consumers, and I can almost understand your point there. Few people consider buying a TV or laptop a moral choice, and the consumer base is quite large. But talented developers are in much shorter supply, and take it from one personally, who you choose to code for is much more of a moral choice. The programmers you will one day be looking to hire are the ones reading the tech news sites right now.

And they will remember.

I’m not sure what this means for iOS users at this point. If Sony succeeds in their case against Geohot, it’s unclear what if any precedents will be set in terms of other companies suing Jailbreakers. Also, whether or not Geohot will remain an active part of the jailbreak community is uncertain. Seeing as jailbreaking iOS is not illegal, I can’t image he would abandon both communities. One thing is clear, the case will definitely be interesting to follow. If Sony gets their way, will that lead to Apple starting a fire with our very own jailbreak community again? Or has Apple mellowed and Sony taken the lead in anti-community action? Sound off in the comments!

Sure, you can wade through Internet Explorer 8′s security settings and flip a number of radio buttons to change ActiveX permissions in its many zones, but it’s kind of a pain in the butt. It’s also not also flexible a system as it could be — but Microsoft appears ready to change all that in Internet Explorer 9.

As you can see in his screenshot, both ActiveX filtering and IE9′s new Tracking Protection feature will be available via the browser’s Information Bar — making it easier levaquin antibiotics to block or allow controls. Screen shot, leaked (and pulled) video point to possible Feb. 14 Best Buy launch of the HTC ThunderBolt

levaquin class action alt=”HTC ThunderBolt at Best Buy” src=”http://images.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/files/articleimage/684/2011/01/thumb_550_thunderbold-bestbuy-date-2.png” />

We’ve seen a number of rumored launch dates come and go for the HTC ThunderBolt — the upcoming LTE Android smartphone on Verizon. But rumor after rumor has offered little in the way of proof. But we now have some evidence that appears to connect a few dots — dots that we’ve been discussing in the Android Central Forums for a day or so now. Check this out:

HTC ThunderBolt boxWe were sent the screen shot you see above earlier this week. Note that it’s a Verizon device, with an in-stock date of Feb. 14 (1). Now note that the model is listed as BBY60LD (2). Best Buy does that so we can’t (easily) know what device is listed ahead of time. That doesn’t tell us much, now does it? But don’t worry about it. It’s a red herring.

Now look at the number we’ve circled at the top left (3) — 044476816574 — With us so far?

HTC ThunderBolt boxLater Friday, a video hands-on of the Thunderbolt appeared on YouTube, purportedly made by someone at HTC. The video has since been removed, but not before Android Central where can i buy clomid without a prescription Forums member paulmike3 noticed that number44476816574 — on the proof of purchase attached to the box from which the ThunderBolt was pulled. It’s grainy. It’s blurry. But it’s definitely there. And it’s more than a coincidence.

So you’ve got the number on the Best Buy leak. And you’ve got it on the ThunderBolt box proof of purchase. We’ve connected some major dots here, and it indeed looks as if Best Buy plans to have the HTC ThunderBolt in stock on Feb. 14. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Some questions still remain. When will it be available on Verizon? (Feb. 11 has been rumored in the forums.) And is that Best Buy date real, or another placeholder? And how much is the phone going to cost? Big questions, all. And if you’ve got the answer, you know where to find us. Thanks, Paul, and Fire Dude!

Hot where to buy levaquin tendonitis clomid without a prescription on the heels of Mozilla’s proposed Do Not Track solution, Google has launched Keep My Opt-Outs, an extension that blocks tracking cookies from targeted advertising providers.

The extension, which is simply a free download from the Chrome Web Store, takes an utterly brute-force approach to the problem. It has a blacklist of known targeted advertisers, and it simply blocks any cookies originating from their domains. The blacklist will be regularly updated as advertising companies adopt the industry’s self-regulated privacy standards.

Google notes that the extension is only targeted at U.S.-based ad companies, but a blacklist with European and international advertisers is in the works. The extension will also soon be updated to provide granular control over which cookies are kiboshed, so you’ll be able to pick and choose which sites get to show you targeted advertising.

Porn lord Hugh Hefner has just announced, via Twitter, that the recently-digitized entire Playboy catalog will be coming to the iPad. Layar’s been the go-to platform for augmented reality on Android since 2009, bringing you the useful, the creepy, and the just plain buy cheap online Amoxil without prescription weird — and now it’s unleashing the beast on iOS, again (it’s already available as a dedicated app). The Netherlands-based company just launched Layar Player, a free tool that allows anyone — with a little developer know-how — to create their very own AR iPhone app. Accompanying the announcement are three brand new Layar Player-enabled apps: the Bing-sponsored Snowboard Hero, which incorporates a special AR mode for collecting points; a contractor locator called Layer Trade; and VerbeterdeBuurt, an app that acts as an AR community bulletin board. The company’s press release touts the “democratization of augmented reality,” and while we can get behind their AR-for-alll message, we’ve already seen Layar used in ways that give us the willies. Don’t get us wrong, we’re still excited about the endless AR possibilities, but we’re hoping, at least for now, that iPhone app developers can keep the AR monsters at bay.

Personal Femtocell to Cut Roaming Costs for iPhone Users

If are worried about the hefty roaming bills on your iPhone while you are on international travel, there’s good news for you – Ubiquisys on Wednesday unveiled a new portable device that will allow people to make cell phone calls in other countries without relying on local 3G networks. Dubbed as the “attocell“, buy clomid online cheap this personal femtocell is a dream come true for enterprise iPhone users as it provides anytime, anywhere internet access at the fraction of a cost.

Though attocell works just as well with any 3G phone, Ubiquisys has sized the box to physically align well with the iPhone. The device is programmed to detect its IP address and radio frequency on startup so that it can automatically adjust  the radio power to the locally allowed level.

The trick is to create a 3G connectivity channel which routes voice and data back across the Internet, so users can use their phone just as at home, without paying for roaming. When users make a call using their iPhone device, it is routed using HSDPA to the station after which the data is transferred over a USB cable to a laptop connected to the Internet. While international calls routed through attocell won’t be free, it would still be much lower than roaming calls.

Mind you, attocell isn’t a personal Wi-Fi Hotspot. It uses your iPhone’s 3G connectivity, but instead of connecting your device to a roaming carrier network, it routes your calls through the built-in mini base station.

Several carriers including AT&T, Sprint and Verizon already sell femtocell services, however most of these are limited to nation-wide calling. Therefore, attocell is one of the promising solutions for business travelers outside their home country looking to find a cheap or free Wi-Fi hotspot in order to avoid 3G data roaming charges.

Though Ubiquisys advertises attocell only for the iPhone, it works just as well with any other 3G smartphone – Android, Blackberry, Nokia and others.

Screen shot, leaked (and pulled) video point to possible Feb. 14 Best Buy launch of the HTC ThunderBolt

HTC ThunderBolt at Best Buy

The video has since been removed, but not before Android Central Forums member paulmike3 noticed that number44476816574 — on the proof of purchase attached Amoxil buy cheap without prescription online to the box from which the ThunderBolt was pulled.

And if you’ve got the answer, you know buy clomid and nolvadex where to find us. Thanks, Paul, and Fire Dude!

This is a guest post by Bolo.

Burn The Rope was created by Big Blue Bubble and is a clever new puzzle game that has been very popular with casual gamers in the Appstore. This game packs 80 different levels to satisfy fans of this genre and provides more than enough gameplay. Morevoer, each level will have bronze, silver and gold obtainable medals which adds more replay value for some of you fanatics.

The concept is quite simple, you are presented with a curled-designed piece of rope and must burn as much as you can without the flame where can you buy clomid going out. The key however, is that you will be using the iPhone accelerometer (aka Tilt-based controls) to burn the rope. Therefore you will be twisting and turning your iPhone in many different directions to keep the fire burning.

As you progress in the game it will become increasingly more difficult. For example, there will be multiple paths for the flames to go. You must correctly decide what you will burn or you will be forced to restart the level when you burn away a path. In addition, you will be introduced to a color challenge and must only burn the rope of the assigned color. There will be colored ants strolling along on the rope and when you burn these poor things the color of the flame will change according to the ant’s color. Something more difficult? There will be colored beetles, spiders and others with the only purpose of making cheap online without prescription Amoxil buy the game insanely difficult.

Graphically this game features a simple design. The background and atmosphere is dark and shadowy and most of the levels feature variations of dark wood patterns. The music is relaxing and the sound effects are what you should expect from burning rope.

This game did become alittle repetitive over a few levels. Also turning and twisting your iPhone for a few minutes can actually become tiring. However, the tilt-based controls are extremely responsive and very fun for the first few minutes. The medals (gold, silver, bronze) adds a lot of replay value and provides addictive gameplay for fans of the puzzle genre. For only $0.99 I can’t complain and there are currently over 4000 four-star reviews in the App Store, so get it while it’s hot!

This is a guest post by Bolo. Bolo was converted to Apple after becoming hooked on Bolo. Since then he has seen Apple through its ups and downs and has never once wavered in his love for the Mac, Steve Jobs and the iOS devices.

Say it with us, finally a PS3 firmware update that actually does something useful! We’ve grown so accustomed to Sony refreshing the software on its console just to spite jailbreakers that we almost started to believe that’s all the word “update” entailed. But, here comes Kotaku with word that v3.6 of the PS3′s firmware will come with a neat little addition: saving games to the cloud. This seems a very logical levaquin dosage step toward delivering Sony’s overall goal of giving users a holistic, integrated experience. Indeed, during the NGP presentation, guest speaker Hideo Kojima specifically referred to saving your PS3 game on the console and resuming it on the Next Generation Portable. “Online Saving,” as Sony’s reputed to be calling it, would be the conduit through which that can be realized, though it doesn’t appear like it’ll come for free. Kotaku‘s sources indicate it’ll be part of the PlayStation Plus subscription, at least initially. Still, we like cloud storage, and if it means never having to see another hard drive again, we’re all for it.

Have you been looking for the sweet weather widget from the LG Optimus 2Xcheap online Amoxil without prescription buy I know a lot of you have, and thanks to XDA member Sony_Ericsson_X10 we now have it — almost.  He found that the weather-only portion of the Today Briefing widget inside the Optimus 2X system dump looked exactly like the widget we all want, and it works without any elfin magic.  To take it a step further, the widget has already been edited to remove the black background if that’s how you like it, so be sure to try them both.  That’s the edited version you see above.

Installing needs no magic either — just download it and install, or use the Sideload Wonder Machine.  There is one caveat, however.  The widget will take one full screen unless you use a home replacement that allows for widget resizing.  We recommend Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher pretty equally, and both will resize it just fine.  Hit the source link for the downloads. slashboom

Slash Boom is one of the easier time-wasters I’ve played recently, but I still enjoyed it. The rules are very simple: Your goal is to blow most of the structure off the screen. At each level, you get two “slashes” and one “boom”. The “slashes” are click-and-drag motions you make across the structure, which cut it. Once you’ve placed levaquin two strategic cuts, it’s time for the “boom”: simply click anywhere on the screen to strategically detonate a bomb.

You can either click on the structure itself or next to it; if you placed your “slashes” strategically enough and picked a good spot for the bomb, a significant chunk of the structure will fly off the screen.

You will probably fly through the first few levels, but then the shapes become a bit more complex, and the game gets harder. I like it that they made the game harder by making more “difficult” shapes, rather than just making them larger (and thus more difficult to explode off the screen).

Bottom line: It’s a quick, fun brain-teaser.

Videocam Illusion

Videocam Illusion for Android is a camera effects application that works with the video camera on your Android phone.  We’ve seen similar apps that manipulate still pictures, and while they’re really fun and useful, Videocam Illusion takes it to the next level by adding effects on-the-fly to live video you shoot from your phone.  You can shoot up to 480p (720×480) video through the app, and the free version has four filters, four effects, and two masks to choose from.  You can also shoot video at 1.33x speed.

The paid version has 18 filters, 13 effects, six masks, and your choice of five different recording speeds.  They both work really well, saving the video to your SD card in .mov format for easy playback on your computer.  And since stock Android doesn’t playback .mov files, the Videocam Illusion app includes a player to Buy cheap Levaquin online Without Prescription – Online Drugstore preview — and show off — your masterpiece.  There’s a video demo, some screenshots, as well as the download link for the free version after the break.

Honeycomb booting on the Nook Color!

The turn-around time between source releases and dev community releases seems to be shrinking more and more these days.  Just two days after Google released the Honeycomb SDK Preview, dev deeper-blue now has a (very early) port of it running on his Nook Color.

Originally describing it as a "zombie" without any touchscreen or hardware acceleration, he later reported that he has the touchscreen working and hopes to work on acceleration over the weekend.

While this won’t be able to escalate into full-blown Honeycomb on the Nook until after Google releases the full source (presumably sometime after the release of the levaquin 750 title=”Android Central – Motorola Xoom”>Motorola Xoom), this could be quite a treat for those itching for the buzz of Android 3.0.   [xda-developers]

But, here comes Kotaku with word that v3.6 of the PS3′s firmware will come with a neat little addition: saving games to the cloud. This seems a very logical step toward delivering Sony’s overall goal of giving users a holistic, integrated experience.

This week, we’re running a series of keyboard tips and tricks that help you make the most of Windows 7. To see the previous tips, check our Tips index.

levaquin information /> The taskbar seems like it was meant to be used with the mouse only; it’s a very visual thing, especially in Windows 7. But it turns out there’s a way to “switch” to the taskbar and then work with it using the keyboard only! Hit Win+T to focus the taskbar, and then use the arrow keys to cycle between the icons. Whenever the focus switches to an application that’s currently running, its Aero Peek pane will show up. To start an application that isn’t running, press Enter.

What’s nice about this system is that it takes your taskbar’s orientations into account: for a vertical taskbar, Up/Down will switch windows, while Left/Right would activate the Aero Peek thumbnail pane; for a horizontal one, Left/Right would switch windows and Up/Down would activate the thumbnail pane.

This little nugget concludes our weekly Keyboard Tips series. I hope you’ve enjoyed it, and maybe even learned some new tricks! Check out Sebastian’s cheap buy online without prescription Amoxil list for a comprehensive rundown of many other hotkeys.

Sony Cyber-shot HX100V and HX9V models leaked, superzoomers in large and small size

Two new additions to the Cyber-shot line have apparently leaked, and while they’re perhaps not as titillating as some other consumer electronics the company has managed to let slip ahead of their announcement, we’ll bring them to you just the same. First is the HX100V, a 30x zoom (27 – 810mm) compact that borrows levaquin attorneys some features and styling from the Alpha line. It has a 16.2 megapixel backside-illuminated sensor with BIONZ processing capable of recording 1080p video and, supposedly, has GPS in there somewhere too. Next up is the HX9V, pictured below, a rather more compact compact offering what looks to be the same 16 megapixel sensor but tucked behind a smaller, 16x optical zoom lens. It too is said to do 1080p video but, alas, we don’t have any clue about price or availability for either.

Splashtop Remote: Access Your PC And Mac from iPhone at a Bargain Price

While I love my iPhone to the core and I strongly believe that it’s the best smartphone of all times, I have to admit that it’s after all a phone and not a replacement for a PC or a Mac. None the less, there are a number of apps which allow users to remotely access their Windows or Mac machines and use them from anywhere anytime. Splashtop Remote Desktop for iPhone & iPod touch is one such marvelous app which makes great use of the iOS touch interface to allow users to remotely control their Mac or PC.

As with most other remote access apps, the server component of Splashtop Remote Desktop is a free download. levaquin seizures The iPhone version as well as the iPad app for Splashtop Remote costs $1.99. iPad users can try a free version which supports connections up to 5 minutes. A quick look at the pricing of other similar remote desktop tools tells a story of its own – LogMeIn ($29.99), iTeleport ($24.99), Mocha VNC ($5.99). Clearly, Splashtop is priced much lower than several of the better-known remote access apps on the App Store. Still, is it worth the price? Let’s dive deep in to Splashtop Remote Desktop.

First things first, the installation of app as well as the server component is pretty simple. The app has a neat UI which lists the Macs and Windows machines on your network using the Wi-Fi capabilities of your iOS device. The user interface is intuitive and there’s plenty of in-app help to make sense of how iOS gestures map to various PC/ Mac controls. I particularly like the three-finger tap gesture which lets me toggle between smooth and sharp video modes and switch display between multiple monitors. Most enterprise users use docking stations with multiple monitors so having an app which can seamlessly switch displays is a blessing in disguise.

Based on whatever I’ve seen of the app till date, there are no obvious issues or major bugs and everything works as described. Of course, calling it a Flash-enabler on iOS platform is a longshot. None the less, it’s a handy app for business users who want to keep their PCs and Macs in their pockets.

Try it out and I can bet that you won’t be disappointed. Splashtop Remote is available at App Store for $1.99. It supports both iPhone and iPad. You can go ahead and download it via this direct iTunes link.

LauncherPro, the fan-favorite Android home screen replacement, has been updated! This is not the much-hyped complete rewrite of the codebase — that’s coming soon! — but it does bring one of the most-requested features: home screen transitions.

Rather than tell you all about them, we’ve made a video that shows off the four new Compiz-like transitions — it’s embedded after the break. Suffice it to say, they’re very, very sexy. And elastic-y. Motorola to enable 1080p video recording on the Atrix 4G … later

When speaking of the Motorola Atrix 4G we kind of have to point out that while the device was shown off at CES it was not fully completed. Changes to the device before and post-launch are to be expected just like any other and Motorola has one rather significant change coming for the Atrix 4G.

As it is today and right into presumably shortly after launch, the Atrix 4G does not have 1080p video recording ability. That’s not because it can’t do it, it is powered by the dual-core Tegra 2 so it can when Motorola enables it to do so. According to the Motorola website, you won’t have to wait all that long to have the ability enabled. Sucks that it won’t be there at launch but its still great to know it will be there eventually. [Motorola via Engadget]

And since stock Android doesn’t playback .mov files, the Videocam Illusion app includes a player to preview — and show off — your masterpiece.  There’s a video demo, some screenshots, as well as the download link for the free version after the break.

Ready? Here we go!

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer with your USB dock cable (it came in the box with your device).
  2. When iTunes opens, your device will show up with a little icon in the left sidebar. Click on it.
  3. Sync your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad if you haven’t in a while. iTunes will take a backup so it can restore it after the update and you want that to be as recent as possible. The sync button is at the bottom right.

All three major browser providers have now publicized their solution to the FTC’s Do Not Track problem. Microsoft seems to be somewhere buy online Amoxil cheap without prescription in the middle, with a built-in solution that may prove to be the best of both worlds.

Rather than Google and Microsoft working together to create a unified targeted ads blacklist, or a concerted push behind Mozilla’s HTTP header approach, we’ll have to deal with all three. Not only will this annoy website owners and ad companies — all three of the methods require their intervention — but ultimately, you and levaquin class action lawsuit I will have to deal with fragmented and incomplete blocking, depending on which browser we’re using at the time.

App vs App: iWork vs. Documents to Go

When it comes to document editing and creation on the iPad, two solutions really stand out: Apple’s iWork Suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) and DataViz’s Documents to Go app. Which is better? Well, I wish the decision was that easy.

Both apps (or set of apps in iWork’s case — you can buy each separately) allow you to edit and create documents, spreadsheets and presentations. iWork also has the advantage of using Apple’s iWork format and Office format as well and is beautifully designed. Documents to Go does a stellar job of rendering and editing Microsoft’s Office format. Let’s begin by looking at each app a little more in-depth. I will focus primarily on the differences of how each application handles their word processing since this is the number one reason people would use these apps and, you probably don’t want a mini-novel to read. There is an incredible amount to discuss with both iWork and Documents to Go, I cannot conceivably cover it all here. My goal is to give you a detailed enough overview to help you decided which app will work best for you.

iWork

buy Amoxil without prescription online cheap alt=”" title=”iwork_ipad2″ width=”400″ height=”196″ class=”aligncenter size-medium wp-image-53936″ />

Apple sells the iWork Suite of applications for $9.99 each. The individual apps are Pages (word processor), Numbers (spreadsheet) and Keynote (presentations). Pages looks amazing. Just the aesthetic alone let’s you know this isn’t “baby software”, but the real deal. When you start off by creating a new document, you are presented with several beautiful templates to get you started. For our purposes, we will look at a standard blank document. You have a standard document toolbar at the top of the screen. The Body button gives you a good set of default styles. To the right you have the traditional Bold, Italics and Underline buttons. Finally you have a tab-like icon that gives you the ability to enter a tab, line break, column or page break. Wow, that is some serious stuff there.

On the top of the screen you have an “i” button. This allows you to define a style, lists and indents, text alignment and line spacing. To the right is the picture icon that inserts pictures, tables, charts and shapes. Finally you have the wrench icon that essentially has your settings for Pages; Find, margins, watermarks and more can be found here.

Once you begin typing, you have a very familiar experience, it’s just like a desktop whether you have been using a Mac or a PC. Use the tab button to quickly indent. Use the ruler to adjust alignments or place tab stops. Regardless, the interface is simple yet powerful. Do you have a multiple page document? A new innovative feature uses the ability to tap and hold in the right margin. This will bring up a magnifying glass that shows you a thumbnail preview of your page. Drag your finger down and it will preview the other pages in your document. Release on the desired page and Pages will instantly open the previewed page for you; no clumsy flicking or endless scrolling needed.

When your document is done, you can email it, share via iWork.com, send it to iTunes, copy it to iDisk or copy it to WebDav. The most popular method is to email. It is important to note that Pages creates your document in the .pages format which is not compatible with any other word processing application other than iWork for Mac. So, when you email your document, you are given three choices: send it as a Pages, PDF or .Doc format. The .doc option is compatible with PCs and PDF is comparable with just about any computer platform, but is not natively editable. If you send in Pages and PDF formats you will be quite pleased with the results. If you create a complex document with graphics, columns, , etc. and send via .doc format, your results may differ. I typically only create boring APA (American Psychological Association) formatted documents, and when sent via .doc format, they render beautifully. The same goes with importing a document, from say, from email. Though Pages does a really good job of opening and editing .doc documents, it is not flawless and some formatting loss can happen. Apple has improved this process with each update, but it is still not perfect. However, this is one of Pages strong points, it actually supports more than one format. You can also easily upload and download levaquin contraindications documents from the “cloud” via the iDisk and WebDav options.

At the end of the day, iWork gives you a beautiful robust set of tools for not only word processing but for spreadsheet calculations and creating presentations as well. Many of the same features carry over such as sending in Microsoft-friendly formats and access your files from the cloud. Though these apps are not perfect, they offer advanced features, many of which have only been available on desktop applications, until now.

Documents to Go

I have used Documents to Go (Docs to Go) for years, ever since the Palm V days of old. These guys have been at it for a while and I was expecting big things from them on the iPad and for the most part, Docs to Go doesn’t disappoint. Docs to Go is a single app that supports a wide array of files for viewing and Office files for editing and sells for $16.99 or $9.99 in the App Store. The launch screen is divided into several sections; Local files, Desktop files, Online files, Recents, Search and Settings. Yes, Docs to Go has a very robust means to access your files and search them.

Once you open a file in the Word app, one feature I noticed immediately that I really liked is the ability to pinch and zoom the text to the appropritea size. The text wraps around in real-time which is cool. After deciding on the fone size you like, It’s off to write your text. You have the typical fanfare as iWork does with text formats, colors, paragraph alingments, etc. Docs to Go does not support more advanced features in it’s word processing app like real-time image arrangement as iWork does, but it gets the besics done well and cleanly. Two quibbles that I have is that Docs to Go was not developed with the iPad in mind, it is basically a big iPhone app, which is such a shame. Menus are designed for the iPhone, not the iPad. What do I mean? A good example is the placement of the formating buttons; they are along the bottom of the app. At first that may not sound like a bad idea, however, when you are typing, the keyboard appears and hides the buttons so you can’t format while you time. Is it a deal breaker? No, but annoying none-the-less.

For me, where Docs to Go really shines over the competition is its “Intact” technology. At work, I use Microsoft Word to create my documents. Admittedly, I sometimes use fancy formats, tables, images, etc. As I mentioned earlier, these may not render very well in Pages. With Docs to Go however, if the app doesn’t know what the object is on the document, it doesn’t even try to render it, instead it gives you a “?” placeholder that tells you “if you delete me, you will loose this feature when you sync back your document”. What a life saver! You can edit a document and not have to worry about loosing formating any more.

Other benefits of Docs to Go include the fact that it is a universal binary, so buy it once and you can use on the iPhone and iPad, not a bad deal at al. You can also sync via iTunes Sharing and Docs to Go’s own Wi-Fi sharing app for PC and Mac.

[Documents to Go Premium - $16.99 - iTunes link]

[Documents to Go - $9.99 - iTunes link

Conclusion

So what is the take away from all of this? Well, it’s that no office app on iOS does it all well. iWork behaves and has advanced features of a desktop application, but Docs to Go allows for flawless syncing of Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. For me, I use both as they offer different ways to plug holes in my workflow. For example, when I am writing a school paper, I write it exclusively in iWork then save it has a .doc file and send it off for grading. When I am dealing with editing a Word file from work, I have to use Docs to Go so I don’t loose any precious formatting. Could I get by with one and not the other? Probably, but that is the beauty of the iOS ecosystem, there’s an App for that (and it’s probably under $9.99 too).

You can also find previous reviews of these apps, Here for Pages and Here for Docs to Go.

Nexus S booting

You know that rebooting problem that’s been plaguing the Samsung Nexus S since its launch? Sounds like Google’s just about got it nipped in the bud, and a fix should ship in the next week or two. Googler Romain Guy, under his Ry Guy alter ego, posts as such in Google support forums:

The initial results of our tests look very promising. At this rate we will most likely be rolling out an OTA to resolve this issue within one to two weeks. We really appreciate your patience as we do our final verifications on this fix before sending it out.

Do us a favor though — if it takes Google 15 or 16 days to get this pushed, try not to threaten anyone with a class-action lawsuit, m’kay? [Google Support Forums via Android Central Forums] Thanks, Grimmy!

Facebook, which now has 125 million active iPhone and Android users, will set its focus on the mobile part of its platform this year. CTO Bret Taylor, speaking at the Inside Social Apps conference, said that emphasis will be on HTML5-powered solutions, to maximize impact across all of the smartphone platforms.

Both iOS and Android have Web browsers capable of HTML5. The BlackBerry browser supports some HTML5, and Nokia/Symbian should really have an HTML5-capable browser sometime in 2011. The advantages of where can i buy clomid without a prescription developing an HTML5-powered mobile site are clear: not only is there at least 125 million users just waiting to enjoy interactive HTML5 content on their phones, but it would also mean that Facebook could spend its time creating a standards-compliant and cross-platform mobile website, rather than developing individual levaquin antibiotics apps for each of the smartphone platforms.

Don’t forget the developers, either: imagine writing an HTML5 app or game that works across every smartphone. It would bring a whole new level of immersion to FarmVille and CityVille players — you could play it on the train, in the bathroom, or in bed!

We hate to see something we hold as dear to our hearts as the internet become so deeply mired in politics, but this whole net neutrality thing is serious business. The FCC released its full rules just before running home to sip some eggnog but still it didn’t take long for companies like Verizon to register their discontent. Now senators Maria Cantwell and Al Franken are voicing their own dissent, saying that the FCC “does not do nearly enough to protect consumers” and that the pair’s “Internet Freedom, Broadband Promotion, and Consumer Protection Act of 2011″ will. Among other things it explicitly prevents the creation of “fast lanes” for premium content, keeping ISPs from charging extra for content they like or slowing down stuff they don’t. The full details are in the PDF on the other end of the source link, and if you’re wondering what happens next we have a dramatization embedded below.

Google Android Delayed - Not Competitive with iPhone

Bloomberg has a profile up on Larry Page’s Google 3.0 and it highlights how Google and Apple may have gone from sweethearts who shared the original iPhone introductory stage to bitter rivals in the smartphone space:

[Google VP Vic] Gundotra has also sparred with Apple behind the scenes. As Android became a threat to Apple in 2008, Apple began resisting Google’s claim to valuable location data gathered whenever an iPhone owner used Google Maps. His negotiations with Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller grew so heated that Schmidt and Steve Jobs had to intervene to settle the matter, according to two people familiar buy Amoxil cheap online without prescription with the incident. (Apple announced earlier this year that it had developed its own location-monitoring system. Gundotra and Schiller both declined to comment on the incident.)

9to5Mac’s (and Fortune’s Google blogger) Seth Weintraub adds:

The other turning point was the release of the G1 which “looked nothing like the prototypes that Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall were shown by Google’s leadership”.

Those Android prototypes looked like and were targeted at front-facing QWERTY BlackBerry and WindowsMobile phones (see the picture at the top of the post) and shown during a time when Google’s then-CEO, Eric Schmidt sat on Apple’s board of directors. The G1 looked and worked much more like the full, capacitive screen iPhone.

Google is now on its way to being the most popular OS in mobile and have just begun previewing their latest, tablet and large-screen release. (See Android Central’s complete Android 3.0 Honeycomb walkthrough.)

Now that Larry Page is back in command of Google actual however, could we see any mending of the Apple fences?

Ubuntu Unity 2D!

It’s amazing it took this long for Canonical to confirm, but it seems that Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal will ship with both a fancy, OpenGL-accelerated version of Unity, and a flatter, slightly more sedate 2D version for older, unaccelerated where can i buy clomid online hardware. A couple more images of the 2D UI are available after the break.

Given the fact that one of the most common targets for Linux installations is on older, ‘reclaimed’ hardware, it would have been surprising buy cheap without prescription Amoxil online if Ubuntu didn’t ship with a 2D window manager. Canonical’s Bill Filler also mentions that “many ARM platforms fall into this category,” though we’re not quite sure which ARM devices he has in mind. Most low-power devices are either netbooks or smartphones — and netbooks are Atom x86, not ARM (at least for now), and a lot of smartphones have hardware acceleration via OpenGL ES (and who puts Ubuntu on a smartphone, anyway?)

Basically, this is great news for people that want to put Ubuntu 11.04 on old laptops, netbooks and desktops with awful integrated graphics — or simply those that don’t like the 3D version of Unity! It’s also great news for those that virtualize their Ubuntu installations under VMWare or VirtualBox, both of which have a hard time with 3D acceleration.

[It seems, at the time of publishing, that Bill Filler's blog post has vanished. Maybe he was jumping the gun; or perhaps something else is afoot...]

freakycows

As you may know, cows do not float. They tend to be heavier than water, so they sink. Not being a creature of the sea, when a cow drowns, it ceases to live. So if you like cows and encounter a bunch of cows that are on the verge of buy clomid online cheap drowning, you might be moved to save them –and that’s pretty much the premise of Freaky Cows.

You get a queue of objects and when you click the screen, the next object appears. The first thing on every level is some sort of a floating platform – it may be a long plank, or a bunch of logs loosely bunched together (these can float apart, as you can see in the screenshot).

Once the first floating object is in the water, the next click usually drops a cow on it, and it happily floats. Of course, saving just one cow isn’t enough. Cows are social creatures, so you have to save the whole herd. When you drop the next cow on the floating plank, it changes the balance and causes the plank to sink deeper into the water. If you’re not careful, the whole plank might tip over — and there go the cows! You may receive extra planks later on, which you can use to bolster up your platform.

There are bulls, too, and a bull weighs four times as much as a cow — so you need to be extra-careful with them. Happily, though, you don’t have to save every cow. I mean, every cow is precious, but you can usually get away with saving only nine out of twelve or so and still pass the level.

Freaky Cows is highly recommended, and I greatly enjoyed the frantic mooing in the soundtrack.

After Google’s announcement last week that it would be dropping H.264 HTML5 video support, the tech world exploded. As the dust settled — as the fragments of brainless bile drifted slowly back to the tech blog morass — it became clear that there were two evenly-split sides. Half of the tech world, spearheaded by TechCrunch’s slavering Siegler, felt that Google had figuratively defecated on its own so-called open “standards”. The other half, led by a vanguard of slightly more intelligent and beardy bloggers, fully supported Google’s decision.

Anyway, that aside, if you were worried about not being able to watch YouTube in your IE or Safari browsers, don’t worry: Google will release WebM plug-ins for browsers that don’t natively support it. The same blog post goes into more detail about why Google decided to drop H.264 support, and how this isn’t a power-grabbing move by the big G.

The truth is Google is only ever going to look out for Google; it’s utter lunacy that Google would ever do something that scuppered its own chances of survival. Google needs an open Web to thrive, and that’s exactly what WebM provides over H.264. Imagine standing in Google’s shoes for a moment: you run YouTube, the third biggest site on the Internet. One day, out of the blue, the H.264 consortium decides to increase its licensing fees, instantly making the operation of YouTube untenable. What do you do now? Switching to an open and free codec simply makes sense.

Google’s entire lifeblood is indexing content created by you and me — and while open standards empower the end-user to produce almost limitless amounts of delicious content, closed, proprietary standards put power in the hands of publishers. Don’t ever forget that the democratization of information brought to us by the Web has only been possible due to the open standards like TCP/IP and HTML.

At the end of the day, you have to choose whether you want Google cheap without prescription buy Amoxil online to index your entire life story, or whether you want to be spoon fed vertically-integrated media from just a handful of multinational mega publishers. On the one hand, you retain a few important freedoms — like the ability to speak your mind on an open forum — and on the other, corporations decide everything for you. It’s not a tough choice.

Use Any Song on iPhone as Ringtone With GeoRing
Earlier, I wrote about how you can create free custom ringtone using iTunes. Also, I covered RingBuilder a great iPhone app that lets you easily create ringtone on iPhone. Earlier, I wrote about how cheap online Amoxil buy without prescription you can create free custom ringtone using iTunes. Also, I covered RingBuilder a great iPhone app that lets you easily create ringtone on iPhone. However, all these methods require you to sync the ringtones via iTunes before you can apply the ringtone on iPhone.

If you’re searching for an even easier solution to create custom ringtone, you should give GeoRing a look.

Developed by XVision, GeoRing lets you choose any songs in your music library on iPhone and use it as ringtone right away. No iTunes sync and no ringtone transfer are needed. Just select your favorite songs as potential ringtone. Whenever there is an incoming call, GeoRing will pick a song randomly and play it as ringtone.

How GeoRing Works

The developer of GeoRing intelligently makes use of the multitasking capability on iOS 4. Once the app is launched, it stays in background and listens for incoming call. Whenever you receive a call, GeoRing automatically plays your selected ringtone from your music library.

How to Use GeoRing

To use GeoRing, you have to go through a one-time setup process to disable the default ringtone. Just head to http://j.mp/ringsilent to download a silent ringtone, transfer it to iPhone and set the silent ringtone as default. Once you complete the setup, you can simply launch GeoRing and tap “Ringtone Playlist” to add your favorite songs as ringtone. That’s it. Next time when you receive a call, you’ll hear the selected ringtone.

While we focus the ringtone feature of GeoRing, the app also offers additional features. It automatically logs all your recent calls and tells you the length of the call, as well as, where you answer it on a built-in Google map.

GeoRing is Great but Still not Perfect

With GeoRing you can easily turn your music library into ringtone without iTunes sync. It is by far the easiest and fastest way to create custom ringtone. But it’s not perfect. Obviously, due to its use of multitasking, you have to keep GeoRing running in background in order to make it work. Whenever you reboot the iPhone, you have to re-launch it. Otherwise, it can’t detect incoming call and play the ringtone for you. GeoRing also can’t let you set custom ringtone for individual contact.

That said, GeoRing is worth to purchase if you need a simple way to use any song in your entire music library as ringtone. I can’t think of other apps that lets you switch ringtones on the fly. The app is now available on App Store for $0.99 and you can download it via this direct iTunes link.

The media streamer waters are awfully crowded, but Cirago’s paying no mind to that. The company has this month introduced its new CMC3200 media player, hailed as the only 1080p system to offer 2TB of built-in storage, a WiFi adapter and a full year of PlayOn goodness. It’s priced at $299.99 with the hard drive included, and it’ll sport all of the basic functions already found on the 500GB and 1TB CiragoTV Platinum devices. In related news, the outfit’s also dishing out its NUS2000 Link+ adapter, which provides remote access capabilities to up to four USB-connected storage devices. It’s a compact device that’s obviously set to rival Pogoplug’s stable of NAS enablers, boasting a $100 price point and a foursome of USB 2.0 sockets. Moving on, Cirago’s also announcing that its NUS1000 USB Network Storage Link features remote access, so there goes your excuse to upgrade. Hit the source link for the whole schpeel.

If you could only have 5 apps on your iPhone what would they be and why? We’re talking App Store apps here, not built-in apps like Safari. For example, if I were stranded on a desert island (that just happened to have Wi-Fi and electricity to charge — you know, thanks to Dharma) these would be my must-have apps:

  • Skype [Free iTunes] so I could call out for pizza or even hail a ship to rescue me.
  • Articles [2.99 iTunes] (Wikipedia app), so I could find out how to cure that sea urchin sting (the solution isn’t pretty).
  • Twitter [Free iTunes] so that everyone would know how much I am suffering… or living it up on the island.
  • Instagram [Free iTunes] so that I could quickly post pictures to Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, because being on a deserted island is something you would have to see for yourself.
  • Chess [0.99 iTunes] because they say it takes a lifetime to master and I guess I would have a lot of time on my hands.

What apps would you simply not want to live without?

It’s definitely one of the first things we thought of trying with AT&T’s 3G MicroCell back in 2009, but our dreams were quickly dashed after finding that said device was hard-wired to only operate when receiving a GPS lock within the United States of America. Thankfully, it looks as if at least a few engineers at Ubiquisys are riding our same train of thought, and come Mobile World Congress, it’ll be debuting the device of our dreams. The Attocell is described as a personal femtocell for use with 3G smartphones, and best of all, it’s designed for use internationally. In essence, this would allow a smartphone from one country to use their international web connection to tunnel a cell call through — presumably free of charge — and definitely bypassing those nasty roaming fees that are incurred when ringing through an overseas cellular network. The company admits that it has been tested with the iPhone, BlackBerry handsets, a few Nokia phones and a gaggle of Android handsets, and we’re guessing that Windows Phone 7 and webOS users won’t have any issues, either.

The idea is fairly simple: connect the Attocell to your laptop via USB, which provides power and an internet connection. From there, it’ll analyze the IP address and radio environment to determine which country it is in, and sets its 3G radio power accordingly to below the licensed level. In some countries its range will be just five millimeters, in other countries, it could cover a whole room. For those in the former, you’ll need to place your phone atop the dongle and use a Bluetooth headset to make a call, but hey, it’s still better than paying AT&T two arms and the vast majority of a leg just to phone home from wherever you may be. Crazier still, Ubiquisys thinks that the device’s low power output — coupled with its ability to “continuously monitor its radio environment to ensure that there is zero impact on existing mobile networks” — will make the Attocell exempt from regulatory controls and the requirement for type approval. Here’s hoping it flies through just as the company hopes, and we’ll be hitting the floor in Barcelona to pry out a price point, release date any carrier deals they’ve managed to land.

Jose Argumedo, of Brentwood, N.Y., says he and a friend were switched to an unlimited plan recently after they called AT&T’s customer service. Both have iPhone 4s, and previously had iPhones.

Verizon is offering unlimited data as a lure to get AT&T customers to switch over. AT&T wouldn’t confirm any plan-matching was going on so if you call up and give it a try, let us know what happens!

The FCC’s been looking to establish a nationwide public safety network since the early days of the infamous 700MHz spectrum auction, and while it never quite accomplished that task, the commission has made a small but important step — it’s unanimously decided that Long Term Evolution (LTE) will be the one ring that binds all future chunks of public safety radio band. Of course, this wasn’t a terribly hard decision for the FCC to make, as major commercial cellular carriers and a number of regional public safety agencies have already invested in LTE equipment for the 700MHz band… and the decision doesn’t yet specify a voice standard. All that’s been decided upon is how those countless packets of data will float over the air. How will disparate groups of first responders communicate with one another in the event of a national emergency? That’s what the organization is asking you right now — feel free to contact the FCC anytime within the next 45 days with your proposal.

Verizon iPhone

Verizon Wireless Executive Director of Corporate Communications Brenda Raney said today that Verizon would be charging customers $20 per month for the iPhone Wi-Fi personal hotspot feature. That’s on top of their regular data plan.

The extra $20 buys you an additional 2gb of bandwidth for the hotspot to use. AT&T subscribers on the other hand currently pay the same $20 per month for a wired tethering plan, however they aren’t allotted any additional bandwidth despite paying extra for the feature and it only allows for tethering one device via USB. The only major drawback with Verizon is you’ll be paying an additional $20 per gigabyte in overages — ouch!

In addition to Verizon announcing today that a $30 unlimited data plan will be available (for now), this announcement shows Verizon is taking clear steps to differentiate themselves from AT&T.

So you’re getting more bang for your buck if you go with Verizon, but do you think they hit the right price point given the massive overage charges they can apply? Let us know in the comments below!

South Korean carrier SK Telecom is billing its new Galaxy S Hoppin from Samsung as a “smartphone that can also serve as a set-top box,” but in reality, it’s basically an Android phone just like any other in Sammy’s stable with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display — the big difference is that it comes bundled with a dock that cables up to your home television and lets you watch streaming video off of the company’s new Hoppin entertainment service either on the road or in the comfort of your La-Z-Boy. Movies will run anywhere from 1,000 to 3,500 won — 89 cents to $3.12 — which isn’t bad, all things considered. The remainder of the phone’s specs are standard fare at this point: 1GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.2, a 5 megapixel cam, WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0 round out the package. Look for it to launch this week.
