google chrome bloat

Over the course of its rapid progression from version 1.0 to 10.0, Google Chrome has packed on the pounds, so to speak. The introduction of features like the internal Flash player, PDF reader, sync engine, and extension and app support have all been contributing factors in the growth of Chrome’s footprint.

Now, however, Google is starting to take a look at where Chrome can be slimmed down. A special group of Chromium developers has been assembled and tasked with reducing the size of the Chrome binaries. While Windows is the primary target, it’s likely that Mac and Linux versions will be looked at as well.

Various reasons for the “diet” are put forward by developers. Ian Fette notes that Chrome is delivered as part of several app bundles (like Avast) and larger binaries can cause difficulties. He also points out that Google sees an increased number of failed download attempts as the file size grows. Another developer, Lei Zhang, reminds that not everyone in the world has broadband — and even a few megs here and there can make a big difference to those users.

A monitoring system has been put in place, and developers will now made made aware of increases in size as the Chromium buildbot churns out new snapshots.

This is one of those posts that could probably be condensed into a tweet: Apple has released the second Preview of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. If you’re running Preview 1, it looks like you’ll first receive a small update via Software Update, and then you can download Preview 2 from the Mac App Store.

There has been some speculation that Apple is getting close to a release or Golden Master build, but judging by 9to5 Mac’s initial findings there’s definitely some way to go. The Golden Master will probably appear at, or just before, the Apple WWDC in June.

So far, it’s looking like the only changes in Preview 2 are the leather bound iCal skin that you can see above, and the main iChat window now combines your AIM, Bonjour and Jabber contacts, like Adium. We’re sure that more details levaquin side effect will emerge throughout the day, though, and there’s bound to be lots of invisible changes, too. We’ll update this post when we find out more.

So, you’re a ball. A Tarzan Ball, to be precise. You’ve earned the nickname thanks to your astonishing ability to shoot out a lengthy ‘vine’ (I hope it’s a vine) at objects, and then pull yourself towards those objects.

That’s a handy ability to have, especially since you’ve got no legs, no arms, and no other means of transportation. In Tarzan Ball, the rope is everything. But you don’t just swing around the screen aimlessly – that wouldn’t be much of a game now, would it?

Instead, your goal in life is to collect “targets”. Each level has one of these “targets” hidden away somewhere on the screen, usually behind some kind of barrier. Once you navigate close enough to the target, you can shoot your rope at it and just reel it in. That’s when you pass the level.

You can’t die in this game, but it can still be very frustrating. It’s actually one of the cheap buy online without prescription Amoxil tougher games I’ve posted recently. Still, if you enjoy physics games, this one is quite nicely made.

You asked us to put the Otterbox Defender head-to-head against the Incipio Destroyer in a proper, traditional Smartphone Experts style review and… I thought to heck with that. We’re doing an Amazing Case episode of cheap buy online Amoxil without prescription href=”http://www.tipb.com/tv/”>TiPb TV. No, not a Jiu-Jitsu death-match or scratch test or water torture, this time we’re taking the Defender and the Destroyer out onto the frigid Canadian slopes, we’re putting them up against ice and snow and mud and rocks — we’re literally putting our butts on the line to stress test them for the TiPb nation!

We’ve previously taken a look at how to put on and take off the Destroyer and how to install and remove the Defender. This time we took them… sledding! Now the Defender’s outer layer is silicon (Destroyer puts that layer inside) and non-stick might be great for grip but not for racing down a hill. So we had to take that off. Destroyer is also literally screwed together. With differences like that, could it be a fair test? Could we figure out which one would best keep your iPad protected (and me alive?)

Hit play and find out!

Google Blogger Mosaic Dynamic View

Google, as part of its ongoing and much-needed overhaul of its popular Blogger platform, has just enabled five dynamic, HTML5ish, AJAXy ‘Dynamic Views’. There’s a video introducing the new layouts after the break.

The five new views provide fresh and interesting ways to explore your favorite Blogger blogs. The Mosaic view, for example, creates a wall of thumbnails — click one, and it zooms to fill the screen; click it again and it minimizes. Flipcard is similar to Mosaic, but not quite as eclectic. Sidebar, Timeslide buy clomid overnight shipping and Snapshot round off the new views, with each one obviously targeted at different types of content, from photo blogs, to text-only philosophy blogs, and everything in between.

For now, you have to visit a Blogger blog and add /view to the URL to enable the new Dynamic Views. If you own a Blogger blog, you can disable the new views — and really, why weren’t they disabled by default?

If feedback is positive — which we’re sure it will be — these Dynamic Views will soon be enabled by default. You’ll also be able to edit the views in much the same way as current Blogger templates.

Lost In The Copenhagen Airport? Try The New Augmented Reality CPH Airport App!

Despite being a frequent business traveler, I always tend to get lost in airports – especially in transit where I usually face a race against time to catch a connecting flight in time. Though some airports such as Heathrow have iPhone apps which provide detailed navigation information, they sound like an overkill unless you want to explore all minute details of an airport. The simplest app would be to detect your current location and help find your way to the destination. I recently came across CPH Airport, an app that helps passengers with iPhones to navigate the terminal more efficiently with real-time access to information on Copenhagen airport services.

The difference though is – CPH Airport uses augmented reality to illustrates points-of-interest in the terminal on-screen and serve as your pathfinder. Read on to know more.

I’ve to admit that I’ve never been to Copenhagen so this isn’t exactly a review. First things first, Copenhagen Airport deserves credit to be the first airport in the world to incorporate augmented reality in its iPhone application. The CPH Airport app was built by Copenhagen Airport in collaboration with SITA. The app claims to provide up-to-date information that is relevant to passengers in their exact location. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?

I decided to download the app, explore its features and try to trick into believing that I’m actually at the Copenhagen airport. The CPH Airport has a sleek interface and provides a plethora of information for airport travelers. The home screen provides a list of current departures, arrivals and more importantly, it provides a real time update on the expected waiting time for security checks. You can click on any flight to view its details and then click on the eye symbol to activate the augmented reality path finder for your destination terminal. Since I tried it from my home thousands of miles away from the Copenhagen airport, the path finder didn’t work for me and the app reported an error stating “Unable to find your location within the airport”.

The Copenhagen airport team explains this app uses the airport’s finely meshed Wi-Fi infrastructure to provide as precise positioning as GPS indoors, therefore it does not suffer from GPS’ biggest limitation of not being able to penetrate concrete structures.

More than 100,000 users have downloaded the CPH Airport app so far. If you ever visit the Copenhagen airport, make sure you try out this app – it’s free and gives you an amazing taste of augmented reality at its best!

HTC confirms ThunderBolt camcorder audio problem, says fix is coming

HTC ThunderBolt audio

One issue that’s been bugging HTC ThunderBolt owners is the inconsistent audio recording when using the camcorder on the phone. Sometimes sound is record, other times its muffled beyond buy without prescription online cheap Amoxil recognition.

The good news is that HTC has confirmed to us that it’s tracked down the problem, and a fix is in the works. That means a software update, of course, and these things can take time to be approved and pushed out. But good on HTC for tracking it down so quickly.

In the meantime, there are some supposed workarounds, from covering up one of the microphones to using a third-party video recorder. Anything else we should try? Hit up the forums for more, and we’ve got some video samples after the break. [Android Central Forums] Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

interlockedlevaquin tendon rupture src=”http://www.blogcdn.com/downloadsquad.switched.com/media/2011/03/interlocked-1889.jpg” vspace=”4″ />

Back when I was a kid, I used to love crafting ornate puzzle boxes out of Lego. There would be just one way to open the box, by carefully shifting and rotating a bunch of pieces. Well, either that, or breaking the box in frustration.

Interlocked takes that spirit and turns it into a beautiful Flash game. It’s a good thing the soundtrack is soothing, because the game itself can get pretty frustrating.

At the start of each level, you’re presented with a box built out of blocks in different colors. You can click and drag the mouse to rotate the box any which way. Once you decide you want to shift a part of the box, hit SPACE to switch into “move” mode. You can then click any part of the box and drag it. Of course, you can only move a part as long as nothing is in its way. So it becomes a matter of understanding how the box can you buy clomid without a prescription is built, and what parts you need to move around so you could eventually take the box apart.

It’s a tricky, difficult game, but it’s a great brain teaser — and definitely a keeper.

RIM had a Social Media conference today in Toronto, and my entire college business and marketing class was invited to the event. RIM’s co-ceo Jim Balsillie revealed that they plan to bring BBM and “other services” to iPhone on April 26 via the app store.

Balsillie also supposedly revealed that RIM are already planning an update to take advantage of a new notification system in iOS this summer. Of course, RIM has neither confirmed or denied this rumour, but it is slightly peculiar that RIM would invite a class of college students to an event, and announce something like this.

Do you think this is real? fake? or really fake? Would you use BBM, if it came to iPhone?

VZ Navigator for the HTC Merge shows up in Android Market

HTC-Merge-Verizon

The HTC Merge has sure spent a lot of time in the spotlight, once emerging with Verizon branding, then heading its way to Alltel, and now more confusion to the pot. In the Android Market has surfaced the VZ Navigator for Merge application, which would be the HTC Merge specific version, as we have seen with other devices as well. Things get even more interesting when we have a look at Verizon’s exclusive Indycar Mobile app page, where the Merge is listed alongside other known, newish devices that should be seeing the app soon. We have no release information, or if this is a goof up, but the VZ Navigator application appears to have just buy clomid pills been released today. [Android Market] Thanks, David!

We’ve seen several browser toolbar security tools before here at Download Squad. Nearly every big-name antivirus company offers one nowadays, but BitDefender Traffic Light has one key advantage: it’s available on all five major browsers! Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari.

It’s also not nearly as in-your-face as some browser malware defense tools. Traffic Light displays only a small slide-out grab tab that you can click to display its analysis of the current page. When malicious activity is detected, however, Traffic Light will spring into action and prevent the offending code from executing. You’ll be giving up a bit of memory — somewhere between 20 and 30 megs — but most of us can spare at least that much, especially for some additional Web security.

To install Traffic Light in your browser, buy online Amoxil cheap without prescription visit the BitDefender site. A few clicks later an you’ll have unobtrusive malware protection hiding just below your browser’s toolbar.

Google is on a roll on the Apple App Store. Shortly after it released the revamped ‘Google Search‘ iPhone app, the search giant has now launched Disco Messenger – a group-texting service that allows one to send group text messages to friends from a mobile phone or Web interface. Group messaging is currently the “in-thing” on Apple App Store and Google will be up against competitors such as GroupMe, Beluga, levaquin antibiotic Fast buy clomid pct Society, Kik and several others. I was disappointed to know that Disco Messenger is currently available only in the United States.

None the less, it’s an interesting experiment from Google as it plans to tap a keenly contested segment. Read on to know more about Disco Messenger.

Last year, Google scooped up Slide, a Web 2.0 company focused on texting and photo sharing software for social networking services such as MySpace and Facebook, for $182 million. Ever since then, speculation has been rife that Google is secretly building a group messaging app.

The idea is simple – you sign up for the service via Disco.com and create an account with your mobile phone number. The Disco service sends a confirmation SMS for verification and you are good to set up your first group for mass-texting. You can setup groups and include anyone with a mobile phone number – irrespective of whether they use Disco or not. The Disco service notifies your friends that they’ve been added in a mass-texting group along with assigned nickname.

buy online cheap without prescription Amoxil size-full wp-image-12219″ />

Once the setup is done, you can use either the web interface or the iPhone app to start a group text session. You can respond to a group conversation by texting the phone number that Disco assigns to each group you create. To be honest, the Disco iPhone app is a proof of concept at the moment. It provides the capability to send and receive group text messages plus a few additional administrative capabilities as compared to the website but it’s no match for some of the more feature rich group texting apps like GroupMe, Beluga and others.

Disco for iPhoneDisco for iPhone

Facebook recently acquired Beluga so I’ve no doubt Google needs to drastically improve Disco to stand a chance in this high-stake battle for group texting supremacy.

We refuse to be surprised that the next Boxee Box update isn’t actually arriving by the end of March, but just to tide us over CEO Avner Ronen has picked up his blogging pen and revealed many of the changes on the way. Google finally launches in-app billing

In-app billing on Tap Tap Revenge

After promising imminent launch last week, Google has flipped the switch to turn on in-app billing across the Android Market. winzipsystemutilitiessuite

Most people know WinZip for its compression products, but with more and more people using Windows’s built-in file compression utilities, WinZip is expanding into previously unexplored territory with the new System Utilities Suite. The system optimization tool, debuting today, packs 20 separate utilities, each with its own UI, own Start Menu entry, etc, though the Suite fortunately pulls everything together into an easily accessible ‘master utility’ that I explore in the video below.

The master utility serves as a desktop or start screen for the package’s complete tool set, and offers quick access to a three-click process that optimizes the registry, removes temporary (“junk”) files, scans and updates drivers, and more. This would be the first thing new users would run, and once that’s done, they could use each of the other tools as needed (or according to their comfort level) to optimize specific aspects of their Windows PC. System Utilities is aimed both at novice users and more levaquin side effects tendon advanced nerds; it leans more towards the “advanced” end of the spectrum, as the sheer wealth of tools it offers may appear daunting. There’s a tool for just about every purpose, starting with a Duplicate File Remover, through a Registry Cleaner and Optimizer (packaged as two tools), all the way to a Secure Encryptor for sensitive files. There’s even a ‘Game Optimizer,’ which is a full-fledged virtual machine (a “computer in a computer”) running your game as its single application, with support for custom keymaps and other goodies. Some of this may sound similar to what CCleaner offers, but as you can see, System Utilities is far more comprehensive.

As you may have noticed, System Utilities uses short, descriptive names, so that even non-expert users would be able to find the right tool at the right time. This is a step in the right direction, but I think for many users, just seeing so many Start Menu entries could be quite confusing.

For $39.95, System Utilities is good value for money, but only for users who are not afraid to dive into the wealth of different tools and find out what each does. For novice users who want to take things to the next level, it’s a good gateway from a trusted company. Advanced users buy cheap online without prescription Amoxil who like to keep their PC in tip-top shape could certainly cobble up a collection of loose freeware utilities, but they might also enjoy the cohesive feel of one well-built suite. I know I do.

You can watch me taking my first steps with System Utilities after the jump.

Note: We’re going to be running a 10-license giveaway of WinZip System Utilities later on today, so keep your eyes peeled and your RSS reader open!

Last week I wrote about Xeno Defense and this week I found Tesla Death Ray, which is almost as addictive, but is clad in a somewhat different costume.

It’s a tower defense game in which you have to zap your enemies to oblivion. Much like in Xeno Defense, at the end of each level you get to the store and can use your hard-earned points to purchase upgrades and repair your tower.

Unlike Xeno Defense, you only get to the store if you pass the level. This makes the game much harder, because it means if you’ve made some wrong choices in terms of upgrades, now you’re stuck with a level you simply cannot pass, and need to start the game all over again.

I should at least be able to sell off some of my equipment between retries of the same level, I think. But despite this one flaw, the game manages to be addictive, fun, and fast. I like it, and probably would have finished it if it hadn’t been for the upgrade problem.

They’re a far cry from being beautiful, but they’re also tremendously more powerful than that joke-of-a-machine you’re using now. In an effort to help those who live and breathe within Excel experience a life filled with fewer frustrations, Lenovo is cranking out a pair of new desktops for the working world. Both the ThinkStation E30 and ThinkCentre M81 can be outfitted with Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPUs, and the E30 can be equipped with an 80GB or 160GB SSD, NVIDIA’s Quadro / NVS graphics, up to 16GB of memory, USB 3.0 and a SATA III interface. The M81 steps down a bit with integrated Intel graphics (or a discrete ATI option), but both rigs are optimized for fast start up and shut down time under Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience (EE) 2.0 for Windows 7 program. The bad news? $629 and $599 starting points in order of mention, and you’ll have to wait until late April / early May to get your grubby paws around one. Full release is after the break, per usual.

fade

This game had me at the intro. I usually don’t care for the intros many of these games have; I often levaquin symptoms tend to skip them, even if it sometimes means not understanding the game as well as I could. But when Fade loaded, there was a message written in tiny letters saying I can skip the intro, but that it is highly recommended to continue. I decided to heed the message, and I’m happy I did! It’s truly beautiful, and made me feel something. [Erez is secretly a heartless, soulless robot -Ed] You should try the game just for the intro.

But aside from the intro, I found this game to be pretty satisfying. You’re playing a little llama that wants to see in color. Her (or his?) world is all black and white, and it has to run very fast in order to see colors. Each round where to buy clomid you try to gain as much speed as you can, while jumping over chasms and avoiding “slow-down” barrels. When you do this, you gain skill points which you can use to… get better skills! This means you can accelerate faster, have more speed, jump higher and so forth.

Supposedly, if you run fast enough and gain enough skill, your game should suddenly become colorful! I did not get there yet, but they sure got me excited about it! I will probably spend the next few days trying to get my llama to see in color.

Did you make it?

Will we get an iPhone 5 in June?

Will we get an iPhone 5 in June? We’ve gotten a new iPhone announced at WWDC every year since 2007 yet right after Apple announced this year’s WWDC rumors started to fly it would be new hardware free. Could these rumors be based on inside information, or could it just be en vogue to predict delays on all Apple products? iPad 2 was delayed, right? Only no, it wasn’t. Now rumor has it iOS 5 is delayed and iPhone 5 are delayed. Only will they be?

If there isn’t any inside information at play here than the crux of the “iPhone 5 delayed” rumors is Apple emphasizing software and not hardware in their WWDC 2011 announcement press release. Apple puts out one of these WWDC announcements every year, so let’s take a look:

  • WWDC 2010: Apple emphasizes iPad development and iPhone OS 4 (iOS 4), we get iPhone 4 [PR link]
  • WWDC 2009: Apple emphasizes Snow Leopard and iPhone OS 3.0 development, we get iPhone 3GS [PR link]
  • WWDC 2008: Apple emphasizes OS X Leopard and iPhone OS X, we get iPhone 3G [PR Link]
  • WWDC 2007: Apple emphasizes OS X, we get iPhone (pre-announced at Macworld) [PR link]
  • buy clomid without prescription

All those press releases emphasized software, no hardware, and yet we still got a new iPhone. Every year. So again, if Apple isn’t leaking news that there’s won’t be an iPhone 5 at WWDC in order to re-set expectations, then a WWDC press release in and of itself is meaningless as an indicator.

Rumors are fun. Rumors fill news cycles. However there’s a growing pattern of rumors levaquin class action lawsuit about Apple product delays that just seem… cheap online buy Amoxil without prescription increasingly inorganic. Rumor. Link. Smash rumor. Link. Rinse. Repeat.

iOS 5 and iPhone 5 may well be delayed. But I’ll believe it when I don’t see it.

UPDATE: Both TechCrunch (which has a mixed record) and the Loop (which has a good record) are saying no new hardware, including no iPhone 5, at WWDC this year.

UPDATE 2: John Paczkowski from All Things D is also suggesting expectations be re-calibrated.

It isn’t available from the official Firefox website yet, but Firefox 4 is now available to download from the Mozilla releases FTP server. Update: you can hit a random FTP mirror by using these links: Windows / Mac OS X / Linux. Update 2: Firefox 4 has now officially launched.

Despite what we reported last week, there was an unexpected (and unannounced) RC2 released on March 18. The final release build seems to have followed quickly after on Saturday, March 19. The official launch of Firefox 4 is due tomorrow.

Firefox 4 brings with it a slew of new features, including, most notably, a completely overhauled user interface that makes it look a lot like Chrome, but hardware acceleration and the jet-powered JaegerMonkey JavaScript engine also jostle for center stage. In true Mozilla style, Firefox 4 also brings support for many emerging standards, such buy clomid online as HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL. Finally, there are neat features like built-in Sync, restartless add-ons, and workspace management with Panorama.

For more information about Firefox 4, check our complete guide. We also have a fine selection of Firefox 4′s finest restartless add-ons.

Update: Mozilla has asked us to say that this might not turn out to be the actual final build. It’s still going through QA right now, and something might come up. Don’t worry though: your browser will automatically update if a new build is released.

There are also some exciting goodies planned for tomorrow, and Mozilla doesn’t want us to satisfy your Firefox 4 hunger just yet. Basically, if you want to enjoy the ‘true Firefox 4′ experience (including the pretty first-run splash screen), you should hold off installing until it’s released tomorrow.

[thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Sprint officially opposes AT&T’s purchase of T-Mobile

Sprint

From the better-late-than-never department, Sprint has issued a press release officially opposing the planned AT&T purchase of T-Mobile.  There have been rumors of a Sprint/T-mobile merger for more than a year, which either weren’t true or just didn’t pan out, but Sprint believes a T-Mobile/AT&T merger levaquin lawsuit "would entrench AT&T’s and Verizon’s duopoly control over the wireless market."

Sprint doesn’t address what will be AT&T’s biggest ally in the fight — the fact that the plan would enable mobile broadband to 95 percent of the people in the US, including rural areas.  That’s big on our President’s agenda, and sure to be more than just a bullet point when AT&T presents to the Dept. of justice.

I’m a T-Mobile subscriber, but at this point I don’t care who I make the check out to, as  this is likely the only way I’ll ever see LTE where I live.  Let’s just hope it doesn’t end up costing me an arm and a leg.  Hit the break for the full press release.

Aspiring Svengalis rejoice! For BrainGate has reached a significant landmark in computational thought-control — the 4 x 4-mm implantable chip has given a woman with tetraplegia the ability to point and click with her brain for 1,000 days. An article recently published in the Journal of Neural Engineering said the woman, known simply as S3, performed two easy tasks every 24 hours, using her mind to manipulate a cursor with 90 percent accuracy. Each day she was monitored, S3 would post up in front of a computer and continuously command the thing with her thoughts for 10 minutes. levaquin contraindications Functionality reportedly deteriorated over time, but the paper points to the chip’s durability, not sensor-brain incompatibility, as the culprit. Apple has removed the LCI’s (Liquid Contact Indictors) from the iPad 2. We already know that Apple has relaxed its policies on water damage to various iPods. This we believe, is down to the unreliability of the indicators; false positives when no water damage has occurred. The sensors are supposed to activate when moisture comes into contact with them. This can then easily be spotted by an Apple representative, voiding your warranty.

The iPad 2 has none of these sensors. In the first generation iPad the sensors were located in the headphone plug and 30 pin dock connector. iPad2 has a redesigned headphone jack which does not have the sensors. The sensor are also missing from the dock connector.

The only way for Apple to check for water damage, according to the Genius Bar DB, is to check for corrosion in the SIM card tray.

So who is going to risk taking their iPad 2 into the bath now?

Firefox 4 launched

Mozilla has just flipped the switch on the new, rather beautiful Firefox 4 download page. No, we have no idea who those three cute (and utterly crazy) characters are.

Update: You can keep track of Firefox 4 downloads around the globe with Glow, a beautiful pseudo-real-time download counter. There’s also Twitter Party, which builds a Firefox logo mosaic from Firefox-related tweets.

Along with the download page, there is a lovely HTML5ified tour of Firefox 4′s new features, covering Sync, hardware acceleration, the new privacy controls, and links to the Web O’ Wonder demos, how to set up Panorama, and more.

At the time of writing there have been 385,000 downloads, which we assume are downloads from yesterday’s ‘pre-release’ flurry. Let’s see if we can get it up over 8 million in the next 24 hours and secure another world record for Mozilla! It looks like this Buy cheap clomid online Without Prescription is the same build that we linked to yesterday, so there shouldn’t be any need to re-download. Update: Just two and a half hours in and the number of downloads is over 1.1 million.

We also have a fine selection of Firefox 4′s finest restartless add-ons — and if you’re a first-timer, or you’re defecting from Chrome or Internet Explorer, check out our must-have list of add-ons.

iOS 5: A Major Revamp, Cloud Based, but Likely Postponed to The Fall
While we’re expecting the release of iOS 5 in coming June along with the debut of iPhone 5, MG Siegler from Techcrunch mentioned iOS 5 is likely to be postponed till this fall and it’s said to be previewed at WWDC. While we’re expecting the release of iOS 5 in coming June along with the debut of iPhone 5, MG Siegler from Techcrunch mentioned iOS 5 is likely to be postponed till this fall and it’s said to be previewed at WWDC.

Speculations have been around for months that Apple would revamp its MobileMe service as a cloud-based service for remote file and music storage. The upcoming iOS 5 is said to focus more on the cloud services. A number of new services may launch with this new version, including a “music locker” service which could store your music remotely and a location service that lets you find friends and family members.

Here are what Techcrunch heard from its sources:

  • iOS 5 will launch in the fall and will be a major revamp of the OS.
  • It could well be previewed at WWDC, it just won’t be released then.
  • The iOS 5 launch is also likely to coincide buy levaquin online with the release of a new cheap buy online Amoxil without prescription type of iPad, which we previously reported on.
  • The new iOS will be heavily built around the cloud, and we could see several new services launch from Apple that take advantage of this.
  • Yes, one of those is very likely a “music locker” service. There is also a fall launch aim for this, during Apple’s annual music-themed event.
  • But much of the cloud stuff will first be talked about at WWDC, Apple’s developer event which will take place in June.
  • One of the new cloud service elements is likely a location service that focuses on finding friends and family members.

So what about iPhone 5? If the Techcrunch’s source is right, it’s very likely the iPhone 5 will not come with iOS 5. Instead, an iOS 4.x version specifically designed for the new iPhone.

It’s really exciting to see a major revamp of iOS especially we can store our music remotely on the cloud (provided the rumor is true). What do you think about the news of iOS 5? What features do you like to see in the next version? As always, feel free to leave us comment and share your thought.

James Gosling, Java’s Godfather, joins Google

James Gosling

You may not be familiar with the name James Gosling, but you’re a fan of his work.  In 1994, he practically invented Java — the programming language, the compiler, and the virtual machine to run it all — while working at Sun Microsystems.  This not only got him elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, it helped him become an officer of the Order of Canada.  If you are using how to buy clomid without a prescription a computer on the Internet, or an Android phone, you’re using his work now.  We can sum it all up by saying the dude is a genius of the highest caliber.

And now he’s coming to work for Google.  Mr. Gosling did not stay on when Oracle bought out Sun, and by all accounts didn’t agree with Oracle’s methods.  He also gives a unique insight about the Oracle/Google patent dispute:

"During the integration meetings between Sun and Oracle, where we were being grilled about the patent situation between Sun and Google, we could see the Oracle lawyer’s eyes sparkle."

We can’t be sure Mr. Gosling will be working with Android development, he isn’t even sure yet what his daily routine will be at Mt. View, but whatever he touches will likely get better.  [cnet news]

Hands-on with Gingerbread on Droid X

Gingerbread on the Droid X

Android 2.3.3 leaked buy levaquin out for the Droid X and Droid 2 earlier tonight, and we just had to take it for a spin, especially given that it has an all new skin atop it. We even hesitate to call it Blur, because it’s definitely better than the old Motoblur and not-a-Blur from days gone by.

There’s a proper dock now, with three customizable icons. That’s right, you can put whatever you want in there, which is the way it should be. But by default, Motorola gives you the phone dialer, e-mail and text messages, which is much better than the dialer and contacts we had before.

The app drawer also is greatly improved. You can now make groups of applications within the drawer. And the first thing we’re going to do with it is make a group of icons that excludes all the VCAST stuff that’s on the phone, and maybe the stub apps for NFS Shift and Madden 2011. For those of you who don’t root and kill unwanted apps, this is a nice, safe way buy without prescription Amoxil online cheap to get the bloatware out of sight.

The menus have a new look, too, which is OK by us.

Anyhoo, peep the video after the break. We’re going to give it a go for a few more days, but our initial impression is pretty good. Give it a shot, or sit back and wait for the over-the-air update, whenever that is. More on the update in the Android Central Forums

TiPb.com Picks of the Week

Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game.

To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break!

Grocery IQ – @Alli_Flowers

This is the sharable shopping list with all the trimmings. Yes, there’s an Android version as well, so if you’re in a contemporary mixed marriage (you have an iPhone, he/she has a Droid), you can still agree on what to buy for dinner. No more last minute phone calls saying “I’m stopping off at the store on my way home from work, do we need anything?” Because now, your grocery list is kept in sync and shared.

You can levaquin lawsuits add items via the web portal, or on your phone. You can do it manually, or (my favorite feature), just scan the bar code of the item you need and it’s automatically entered into your list! When I first installed Grocery IQ, I walked around the house scanning everything from frozen foods to health and beauty products, and it handled almost everything. It did not correctly identify bottle of rum, found no match for a tube of hand cream my sister-in-law had, and incorrectly identified a 3rd kitchen item as HD cables. Other than that, everything scanned in perfectly, including the category.

When you’re at the store, you can tap the item to check it off, and when you’re done, tap checkout to clear the list. This is really a powerful little app, and you can’t beat the price!

[Free - iTunes link]

Teletubbies HD – @chrisoldroyd

Entertaining a 20 month old child; especially when teething, can be really hard work. This app does the job and more. Ella loves Teletubbies, (don’t ask me why) and this game provides a simple interactive experience with the four characters from the show. Children can choose to interact with the game as much as they’d like. Whether they want to make Tubby Custard, chase the Teletubbies up and down hills, or find funny noises, it’s up to them. It looks beautiful with rich colors and is very intuitive. Your young ones will love it too!

[$0.99 - iTunes link]

Banana TV – @reneritchie

Banana TV lets you stream content from your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad over AirPlay to your Mac. (It basically lets your Mac pretend to be an Apple TV and your Mac’s display buy without prescription cheap Amoxil online pretend to be an HDTV). It comes from the gloriously ingenuous minds of Erica Sadun and Kyle Mathews and is the next generation of of the original AirPlayer hack.

And this is hella interesting for a number of reasons. Have Macs at work? Beam your presentation to them via AirPlay and Banana TV. Have a Mac Mini home theater box? Beam media right from your iPad or iPad as if it were an Apple TV (no more second class citizenship). Have friends with Macs but not Apple TVs? No problem. Beam away.

This is something Apple TV should have built into the last OS X update. They didn’t. So do your Mac a favor and go pick up Banana TV.

AIM for iPad – @JorjLim

When I bought my iPad at 5:20pm on Friday, AIM for iPad was one of the first apps I installed on it. AIM for iPad is the official AIM client, but, to my surprise, it supports more networks too.

It has an absolutely gorgeous UI, for both landscape and portrait mode, that can be fully customised to your liking, by either taking advantage of it’s built in themes, or adding your own photos to the background. If you don’t have any friends who use AIM, you can also log in to both your Facebook Chat and your GTalk accounts, so all your friends are in the same place.

If you only use AIM, GTalk or Facebook Chat, then AIM for iPad is the ultimate IM app for you.

The Daily Show – @skeetobite

My pick of the week is the Daily Show app. I am a huge fan of the Daily Show, but I don’t always have time to watch it in the evening when it is on. This is why I like the Daily Show app. It gives clips and highlights of the shows, including things like quotes of the day, selected video clips. selected 60 second summary of the shows, upcoming schedules, and even a tweet feed. While I wish they had MORE video clips, this is a great way to get my daily show fix. And best of all, it is a universal app for both the iPhone AND iPad.

Smart Cover for iPad 2 – @llofte

It’s been several weeks since I got my iPad 2 with a Smart Cover and I still absolutely love the Smart Cover (and iPad 2, of course!). I’m a minimalist when it comes to protecting my devices, so the Smart Cover is perfect for me. The magnetic connection to the iPad and how it automagically turns it on and off is simply brilliant. Not to mention, an iPad equipped with a Smart Cover is very obviously an iPad 2 :)

City Story – @oopbuddha (Reader’s Choice)

City Story is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. A friend of mine requested that I start playing, and once I did, I’ve become hooked. You start with a small city and some coins, and from that you get to build and design your city. Just make sure you keep your citizens happy by providing stores and shopping and by making your city beautiful. In order to expand your city to it’s maximum potential, you need to get your friends to start playing so you can link up your profiles. It’s a great way to make new friends as well. I’ve already made one new friend through City Story.

Your pick?

You’re part of the team as well, so we will be choosing one reader to make a submission each week! Just look for my tweet each weekend for a chance to be picked! In the meantime, jump into the comments and let us know your pick of the week!

buy online Amoxil without prescription cheap height: 375px; float: right;” />If you use a webOS smartphone and want a more desktop-like browsing experience, head to the App Catalog and check out Complete Browser. The app builds on the default webOS browser core and provides a handful of useful additional features like tabbed browsing, a private browsing mode, and easy access to clearing browsing data. There’s also an anonymized Google search option built in.

The tabs give the app a somewhat non-webOS feel, and we quite like flicking through browser windows using the cards interface. Still, for 99 cents the privacy features alone might be enough to justify purchasing Complete Browser.

Hands-on with Gingerbread on Droid X

Gingerbread on the Droid X

Android 2.3.3 leaked out for the Droid X and Droid 2 earlier tonight, and we just had to take it for a spin, especially given that it has an all new skin atop it. We even hesitate to call buy online Amoxil cheap without prescription it Blur, because it’s definitely better than the old Motoblur and not-a-Blur from days gone by.

For those of you who don’t root and kill unwanted apps, this is a nice, safe way to get the bloatware out of sight.

The menus have a new look, too, which is OK by us.

Anyhoo, peep the video after buy clomid 50mg the break. We’re going to give it a go for a few more days, but our initial impression is pretty good. Give it a shot, or sit back and wait for the over-the-air update, whenever that is.

winzipsystemutilitiessuite

System Utilities is aimed both at novice users and more advanced nerds; it leans more towards the “advanced” end of the spectrum, as the sheer wealth of tools it offers may appear daunting.

For $39.95, System Utilities is good value for money, but only for users who levaquin 500mg are not afraid to dive into the wealth of different tools and find out what each does. For novice users who want to take things to the next level, it’s a good gateway from a trusted company. Advanced users who like to keep their PC in tip-top shape could certainly cobble up a collection of loose freeware utilities, but they might also enjoy the cohesive feel of one well-built suite. I know I do.

You can watch me taking my first steps with System Utilities after the jump.

Note: We’re going to be running a 10-license giveaway of WinZip System Utilities later on today, so keep your eyes peeled and your RSS reader open!

Wifi-only Xoom gets its own root method

Root access is now available on the just-released Wifi-only Motorola Xoom, thanks to some enterprising XDA members. The rooting process involves using the Android SDK, as well as a fair amount of command-line wizardry, so it’s certainly not for the feint-hearted. You’ll also be on your own if something goes wrong, as rooting will almost certainly void your warranty.

Still, if you think the prospect of owning a rooted Honeycomb tablet is worth the risk of potentially owning a bricked Honeycomb tablet, then hit the source link to find a complete list of files, along with rooting instructions.

If you’re interested in rooting your Verizon-branded Xoom, be sure to check our levaquin antibiotic earlier post for instructions. [XDA]

A big announcement arrived today if you live in or around London: to prepare to the onslaught of data-hungry visitors for the 2012 Olympic games that the city is hosting, 120 WiFi hotspots are being added to various locations along the Underground subway system’s stations and platforms, in addition to other measures being taken to beef up tech. I have a thing for physics games, and I’ve been known to post the occasional platformer or action game here and there. But Let it Slide is one of the brainiest games I’ve posted to date.

The idea is very simple, and far from original: You get a board with cheap without prescription online Amoxil buy pieces arranged in a particular pattern; you have to slide those around until you get the special piece into its target location.

It’s not even about finding out where the target location is – you can just hover over “dim tiles” and instantly see where you’re supposed to bring the special piece. But getting it there is a whole different story.

There are five tutorial levels, which I strongly recommend you do. Then there are twenty “beginner” levels, but that’s really a misnomer. If those are the beginner levels, I don’t want to know what the intermediate and advanced levels look like!

Every time you finish a level you get a score based on how many clicks it took you – each level has a “par” (the minimum number of clicks it could be completed in), and your performance is compared to that gold standard. Because it’s such a brainy game, getting it right is quite satisfying. I was downright proud of myself when I managed to finish a few levels. All in all, quite recommended, especially if you’ve got a few minutes of quiet. It might actually help you focus better later on.

There’s still no official word on pricing for the eventual US release, but Acer has now finally confirmed the UK pricing for its new Iconia Tab series of tablets. The WiFi-only versions of both the Windows 7-based Iconia Tab W500 and Android-based A500 will demand £449 apiece (or about $720) when they launch in the UK on April 8th, while the 3G-equipped W500 will set you back £529, or roughly $850 — there’s curiously no pricing for the 3G version of the A500 at the moment. Also available at the same time is a keyboard dock that will set you back £90 on its own or £529 in a bundle, and you can look for the smaller 7-inch A100 and W100 models to follow in May, or possibly later — apparently with €349 price tag, if recent retailer pricing is any indication.

Acer announces UK Iconia Tab pricing: Windows or Android starting at £449 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 13:22:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Slide launches Disco, the iPhone group texting app that's sort of from Google

When cheap without prescription buy online Amoxil href=”http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/06/google-acquires-slide-aims-to-build-a-more-social-web/”>Google acquired Slide way back in August of 2010, when it was warm and sunny and phones only had single-core processors, the plan was to “build a more social web.” Now we know a little more about that plan… sort of. A new app from Slide has just hit the app store and an accompanying site has just hit the internets. It’s called Disco, a group texting service that has an app and a web interface. When you sign up you’re assigned a new phone number (ours was a 302 — hello Deleware) and you’re invited to send texts to a number of people, any people, regardless of whether they’re Disco users themselves. Those people can then reply and things get bounced around all crazy like, so make sure those you add have opted for unlimited texting. Intriguingly at this point the app is only available for iPhone, and that’s certainly the platform that takes front and center on the main Disco site. Given the Google parentage here we have to assume that there’s an Android flavor coming here, but crazier things have happened at the club.

[Disco Stu could not be reached for comment, but has in the past indicated an affinity for group texting.]

blackberry os 6.1

When the BlackBerry Torch debuted, public reaction was cooler than RIM anticipated — and that didn’t sit well with the Canadian company. During its annual year-end call, however, RIM revealed that it had been working away at a major update to BlackBerry OS 6 in order to deliver an experience that end-users (and the company itself) could get excited about.

BlackBerry OS 6.1 is now expected sometime this spring, and Engadget reports that the .1 appears to be a bit misleading. RIM is approaching the update as an overhaul, not merely a minor tweaking. You can probably expect to see BlackBerry OS 6.1 in action this May at BlackBerry World 2011. We’ll keep you posted when a beta or final release hits.

Daily Tip: How to set up Skype to become your home iPhone, iPad security camera

Have you ever been out and about with your iPhone or iPad and wished you knew how to just press a button and get a video view of your home? Sure there are home security solutions that can do this — for a lot of money. But how about on the cheap? Well, if you have an iPhone or iPad 3G and Skype, you can. We’ll show you how after the break!

[Thanks to Mickey Papillon for this ninja-level tip!]

Okay, if you want to set up Skype to be your cheap home security, on-demand video peeping solution, you’ll have to get a few things set up.

This is an advanced level tip so we’re going to assume you know what Skype is, have an account, and are familiar with using it. If not, let us know in the comments and we’ll break out some basic tutorials to get you started.

  1. Login to Skype.com and set up a second Skype account
  2. Don’t give anyone this second account ID or allow them to contact it unless you don’t mind them peeping into your house either!
  3. Setup the second Skype account on your home Mac or Windows PC in the room you want to be able to look into
  4. Set Skype on that PC to automatically answer video calls
  5. Open up the Skype app on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad (logged in on your regular/primary Skype account).
  6. Use your primary Skype account on your iOS device to call your second Skype account at home, which will now automatically answer.
  7. Watch the video and make sure everything is safe at home.

That’s it. Again, the steps above require a knowledge of how to setup and use Skype so if you need help, let us know. Otherwise, if you try it out, how does it work for you?

Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you’d like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to dailytips@tipb.com. buy clomid without a prescription (If it’s especially awesome and previously unknown to us, we’ll even give ya a reward…)

At its first spring practice on Wednesday, the Fighting Irish coaching staff introduced the “HelmetCam,” a tiny camera that attaches to a player’s helmet — Notre Dame used it opposite potential starting quarterback Dayne Crist’s throwing arm — and records his every glance and decision. Much levaquin class action lawsuit like a brain, the HelmetCam does not have the stability to survive recurring hard hits to the head, so it probably won’t find its way into the school’s NBC contract for game days, but it will provide the coaching staff with special insight into where their quarterbacks look on a given play. It’s a great idea for QB training and play development so far in advance of the regular season — and it should add new pressure to the four players vying to start behind center for the Irish.
